Exactly.

We all had hope that the way the Jose ended his tenure we’d turn a corner & work differently in the market but I feel stupid expecting better after multiple examples of ineptitude.

Leaving a deal to the last week of the pre-season is not a good way to negotiate [but that’s my opinion & according to some in this post I’m not allowed one].

We aren’t putting ourselves in the best possible position going into the season & that to me is more valuable than an extra £10-£20mil on the Glazers bottom line.
Agree with all your post.

Your 2nd point is something I have previously stated. I think we should have done our business at the beginning of the window. By leaving transfer business to the end of the window makes other clubs know that we are desperate which could lead to the other clubs adding e.g £10m to price of a player.

I think this window so far has been a shambles and think that due to lack of signings Woody hasn't given Ole a good enough platform to succeed from. This may change as Woody may pull off a few signings in the next couple of days, which would make me very happy but due to the way we have moved in the market this window I find that highly unlikely to happen.

While I do understand it's incredibly frustrating waiting for signings ,as I am frustrated myself. There are lot of other factors that prevent us from making signings.

Firstly For example most players are not available to sign at the start of the window. They are either playing tournaments,on holidays or otherwise.

Secondly We had problematic transfer windows when fergie was in charge, and its even harder now with all the money in the game and the fact we are not the dominant force in the market which we were when fergie/Gill/Kenyon enjoyed the monopoly.

Thirdly..Its always prudent to let barca, madrid, city etc spend themselves out.Because the
players will pick them anyway. And then when FFP have the grips we swoop in like
vultures.

Finally Ed woodward havent't a clue what he's doing .. :D:D

Thursday 5pm.
So we have 6 days and just over 3 hours left - including a weekend, that we all know nothing ever happens on.

And still some people think we'll be bringing in 3 players and shipping Lukaku!
6 days is enough time to get a deal or two done. But I'm not holding my breath.

If we make no further signings this window, I'm going to be more than a little concerned.

He paid what Leicester wanted all along and dithered on this deal when it could have been done ages ago.

Shit negotiator and all he's done is wasted Ole's and the team time.
The point remains, we got another deal done. Thus rendering this thread obsolete.

It would have been nice to have closed this 2-3 weeks ago. Leicester held firm which is their right. People have to be a little happy

No, the point of the thread was to highlight how Ed always fails to bring in the signings early and end up paying whatever the other clubs demand or just flat out fails to sign the players needed at all.

wasn't reported that leicester wanted 90m? what good reason do you have to believe leicester said 80m on June 1 and we just caved eventually?

Look at it this way. Leicesters owners are probably richer than the glazers so they basically didnt need the money. Leicester had one of the best CB in this country and probably would have preferred to keep it. Leicester only agreed to sell if they got the £80 mill. Woody for all his faults has finally got the owners to pay the £80 mill. For us fans a better CB than what we had is exactly the way to move forward, the money means FA as it wasnt in our pocket. Lets all rejoice and hope Dybala swap and Fernandes can be bought in now.

You NEVER open a negotiation with what the other party wants only a shit negotiator would do that! If we had offered what Leicester wanted ages ago they would have held out for even more. They didn’t need to sell and were in no rush they were always going to drag it out.

Despite previous crap transfer windows I think this one is the best for a while.

:houllier: people think if we'd offered them this amount earlier in the window they'd have accepted it. No they'd have raised the price up to £95-100 million because they have no need to sell. Woodward did the right thing. Make a £70 million bid and then make it seem like its our last offer and then boom last week of the window £80 million accepted.

100% spot on. I am no supporter of Ed but he is having a good summer so far. Would like him to sell some deadwood. If he can move Alexis he will be a god

They would have taken the deal and ran with it. Macguire ain't 80m and they know it.

Only reason we valued him that high as due to the premium on English players and the club's desperate need for proven EPL players.

No unfortunately for you, you are totally wrong. Leicester wouldn’t have taken an opening bid of 80 million immediately. They would have thought if the opening bid is 80 million then we can get 90 to 95 million! They were not in a rush and didn’t need to sell.

As you've said, Leicester don't need to sell. The only reason this transfer is happening is because they got what they wanted, how are people even using this as proof that Ed is a good negotiator is mid-boggling.

I didn’t say Ed was a good or bad negotiator, I said that only a shit negotiator would have done what you suggested which was offering what the other party want as an opening bid.

And I never said that he should have opened with what Leicester wanted as an opening bid, I just stated that he should have closed the deal way earlier when his solution was to pay them more money anyway instead of waiting weeks for it.

Let's be honest. We have paid way over the odds again for a very good player. Because the clock was ticking.

There was no value in Maguire..and City clearly passed.

If we get Fernandes for a reasonable price. £50-60m i will be really pleased.

But we really need to reinforce in midfield.

Cause that is his main and possibly only asset and from were we bought him from. He runs fast and he runs alot or something of that kind
So is this going to be your 'thing' with James, some annoying label that you will persist with in lieu of using his real name?
