A new core? A core is solid GK, CB, CM, ST

GK - De Gea - Not signed a contract yet.
CB - Maguire - Only just signed him, not sure how he will do?
CM - Pogba - Who knows what happens here.
ST - Who is our striker?

I don't think we have a core.

Matic, McTominay and Pogba (if he stays) is not a top 4 midfield, and their backups (Pereira, Fred) are laughable
Wolves, Leicester, Everton have not a worse midfield

I would say

GK - Henderson*
CB - Maguire
CM - McTominay**
ST - Rashford

* I don't rate De Gea, and haven't signed yet
** Pogba will leave (soon or in the next 2 yrs)

True. Not just quality, but depth of this is appaling.

If Pogba leaves then that basically becomes a bottom half of the league midfield.

I don't think our team is materially better than Wolves or Everton either.

OP got a little excited, it’s not as if this has never ever happened before.
I like the positively but Pereira isn’t up to it unfortunately.

Well you would describe a core as someone you can trust and is first choice?

Henderson is out on loan
Maguire just signed
McT we don't even know if he is first choice, his consistency?
Rashford - Ole seems to have pushed him back out wide.
