No one is butthurt about it. What people are questioning is the way this happened. It sets a precedent and gives them a choice of steamrolling and state of assembly to further their agenda. Unsurprised that this clouds your lone brain cell given your allegiance. Shouldn't be a surprise given how adamant you were (are?) that demonetisation was a success.
Awww, resorting to insults, tch tch. You can believe stupidly that any state will be 'steamrolled' and engage in fearmongering, sadly for you, such fearmongering holds no grounds.
Btw why is your idol Kejru clown supporting this? The man and his party has lost it's morality? :(

Bought Congress MLAs in Goa and Karnataka. Funny how you vote for BJP but in essence are voting for Congress. But hey, fearmongering. ;)

What's the significance of splitting Ladakh into its own union territory?

There were demands from regions like Leh for that. There is argument that Ladakh is treated unfairly by politicians in Kashmir.

Why is everyone getting there panties in a twist ? Nothing has changed on the ground, its only an internal reorganization of a state. I don't think anyone apart from India citizens should be concerned with this.
Sorta Agree. This will be milked by politicians on both sides

Precedent of stream rolling assembly has always been there. Telengana was made against the wished of AP assembly. Article 3 is BS, you just need to inform the state Govt not abide by their advise. What's the point of the same then ?

They also came under the ambit of Kashmir constitution rather than Indian ones. Now a lot of central schemes will be applicable in the region plus more investment in tourism infrastructure.

As with regions like Uttarakhand, Telangana, Jharkhand etc., there have always been complaints that the whole region (and Ladakh is the majority of landmass) is massively underdeveloped and was always treated like a step-child by the State Assembly because it had very few seats in the Assembly, making it largely irrelevant to the "powers-that-be". It got barely any funds allocated and the infra there is a mess. It only takes the one trip there to see the truth of this. The conditions the locals have are dismal - and the vast majority of the infra there is what the Armed Forces have built, and not the State. I saw first-hand the horrible mess the State left after the floods there. All relief came only from the Army. As a result, the Ladakhis have long demanded being separated from the rest of the State - backed also by the fact that the culture in Ladakh is completely different. Hence, it makes perfect sense, specially when you also consider the sensitivity of the region, not just environmentally, but also from a defence standpoint.

Oh it will be. And then we all will laugh on your posts as we did after demonetisation.
I think inflation and corruption is pretty much controlled after that move. Affordable housing is available to people who could not afford it due to rising inflation and parallel economy. Food inflation is low as well. The rich and the corrupt are surely not laughing. Implementation was chaotic I agree.

State assembly heavily dominated by valley's corrupt politicians vested interests without the other two regions having much say in it?

The real question is whether this amendment will pass the scrutiny of the Supreme Court. Any change to the Presidential Order under Article 370 requires the assent of the Constituent Assembly of J&K also. So the question would be whether the J&K Governor has the authority to make this decision when the state is under President's rule.

I don't understand the need to make J&K a union territory. I mean you've already pissed them up off removing 370, why add insult to injury. I think the union territory bit will be reversed in a year or so and J&K will go back to full statehood.

Not sure if within a year but Amit Shah said yesterday that J&K will get back statehood 'when time is right.'

"Year or so" would be premature. Let's not forget that this region has no set of State statutes to govern it the way other states do. Their state laws were highly discriminatory - as discrimination was afforded legal immunity stemming from the erstwhile 35A. Therefore, a bunch of legislation will need to be enacted - which can be done in a much smoother manner when it's a UT. In the absence of its being a UT, they'd either need simultaneous and immediate rollout of all these laws OR work in complete anarchy on a case-by-case basis for each situation, both of which are undesirable. Hence, the decision to make it a UT makes perfect sense. I also anticipate a full delimitation exercise before the next polls - which will then lead to fairer representation of the remaining area. Remember that as of now, the existing delimitation ensures disproportionate representation (compared to population split) owing to the NC having enacted a State law prohibiting delimitation (to protect power for the Valley-based parties which were in charge at the time). This too needs to go.

Also, there will be a spike in Pakistani attempts to foment trouble in the region. The Center will likely retain it as a UT till such time as the situation stabilizes, which makes sense.

Once all this is done, you'll likely see full statehood restored.

PS: When it's a UT, Central laws apply to all aspects, making it a smooth transition period till such time as the entire state setup is in place.

Amit probably felt they need this to be under direct central control till such time the region stabilizes. Last thing they want is to give back control to Abdullah now. 3-5 years before they give back the statehood to them, probably more.

FFS all the rich people (including several I know) knew about it well before it happened. Seems like we have bhakhts everywhere these days. A totalitarian party in power, and a stupid, corrupt opposition with no guts. The country is skrewed.

Just had a thought, Tibetan muslims who live in Kashmir have never been allowed to own property because Kashmir wouldn't define them as citizens, will they be allowed to own property now?
My understanding is that after removal of 35A, any Indian citizen can buy property in J&K and Ladakh.

Modi govt has no intention to remove Article 371, Amit Shah assures Northeastern states

https://www.indiatoday.in/india/sto...ssures-northeastern-states-1577934-2019-08-06

Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday assured the states designated special powers under the Article 371 of the Constitution that the Modi government had no intention to remove the provision.

Most of the states that have been accorded special provisions under Article 371 are in the northeast and the special status aims to preserve their tribal culture. It also has special provisions for Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Goa.

Replying to the debate on Article 370 in Lok Sabha, Amit Shah said that he would like to assure northeastern states that the Narendra Modi government had no intention to remove Article 371.

His statement came in reaction to Congress MP Shashi Tharoor's argument in the House on the matter. During his reply in the Lok Sabha earlier in the day, Shashi Tharoor had said that if the government can use the president's rule and a majority in parliament to supersede a Constitutional provision, then what is there to assure residents of northeastern states that the government will not use same tactics to remove Article 371.
Sad he’s not concerned about ‘Vikas’ of other states other than J&K.

Six martyred, over 100 injured in IoK by Indian forces
Web Desk On Aug 7, 2019 Last updated Aug 7, 2019

SRINAGAR: At least six people were martyred and over 100 injured in firing by Indian troops on protesters in Indian Occupied Kashmir (IoK) as curfew and communication blackout continued on the third consecutive day.

According to Kashmir Media Service, despite the strict curfew and heavy deployment of the troops, people took to the streets in Srinagar, Pulwama, Baramulla and other parts of the territory to protest against the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A by India.

The troops fired bullets, pellets and teargas shells on the protesters martyring at least six of them and injuring many others
Such economic development, increasing the GDP per capita one body at a time

Like I said to Suv666 earlier, please double check all news coming out of Kashmir right now. I am not seeing any other source reporting this.
You obviously won't hear it in india.

Knots of young protesters threw stones at soldiers, police and a witness said, amid anger over the telecoms clampdown that began on Sunday.

“These (protests) are mostly localized because of the heavy troop deployment,” said a police officer who sought anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to media, adding that police used tear gas and pepper spray to scatter the protesters.

A witness described an episode of hours of stone-throwing on Tuesday in the Old Barzullah area near the city center, saying, “I saw around 100 boys, in small groups, pelting stones.”

He added, “The police fired tear gas to beat them back.”

The Huffington Post reported that 13 people had been admitted with pellet injuries to their eyes to Shri Maharaja Hari Singh hospital in Srinagar, citing a hospital official.

It also quoted a resident of the old quarter of Srinagar, Owais Ahmad, as saying he was walking near his house when paramilitary forces fired pellets at him.

The Home Ministry in India’s capital Delhi said it had no information about the incident.

The Huffington Post also reported that a 17-year old boy jumped off a bridge into the Jhelum river when he and his friends saw a group of paramilitary police on both sides of the bridge. The Home Ministry had no comment to offer and Reuters was not in a position to verify the report.

BBC have a video as well.

Not to mention the original article in Kashmir Media Services.

Of course there will be protests. Huge jump to say six people have been killed. There is a lot of rumor mongering going on, please act responsibly.
Given india's past record, I would not be surprised that people were being killed.

Unless you have some proof that KMS are not reliable, I will be trusting them as the indian media hasn't been reliable at all in the past and the indian army not caring about the life of kashmiris ties in with the past.

I also see that you ignored the part where it said that the police has responded with tear gas and pellets in the video and the articles.

Fears are growing of food shortages among Kashmir's poorest residents as the region enters the third day of an unprecedented lock-down.

In some of the first accounts to surface after India shocked the world by stripping the area of Kashmir's special status, witnesses have told The Telegraph of mounting desperation as food supplies and money has dried up.

India announced a strict curfew and communications blackout on Monday, with the movement goods and people in and out of the region also strictly controlled.

But panic buying last week, as rumours circulated of an imminent curfew, saw shelves stripped of food, ATM's emptied and prices rocket - leaving many of Kashmir's poorest without key supplies

All part of the plan.
