You give lukaku 3 clear opportunities on goal then he will score one. Pathetic striker. Doesn't deserve to lead the line of club like Man Utd. His level was Everton and will always be.

Happy he was sold even if we end up buying no one to replace him. nowhere near a big team striker, no technical ability whatsoever, Can't win a head if his life depended on it so not even good as a focal point (he should be when you look at the size of him). Goes missing against good teams and bullies the smaller ones. First touch of a donkey. Inter fans will be shocked when they start watching him.

If we sign no one, Mason will have a lot of chances which is not bad.

The fact that nobody is bothered by him leaving even though he is at "his prime" says a lot about him and his time here.

Never created a goal out of nowhere to justify 75m tag.

Southampton 3-2 Romelu to the rescue.

Also note that in his Man Utd career Rashford has a total of 3 headed goals. Martial isn't exactly renown as a header of the ball either.

Glad he's going and looks like we have finally got a good fee for a player we sell!

Really hoping we put the money straight back in for either a replacement or a CM though before the window shuts. One more good signing and it will be a decent window overall.

For someone so big it's crazy that he can't play with his back to goal

Because he has a poor coordination as he never had to develop this aspect during his teens since he was twice the size of everyone until he started playing against men.

He’ll bang in goals easily in Italy I reckon but it won’t change the fact he’s a shit footballer outside of that.

As 1-dimensional of a player as there gets. Shit technical ability, shit build up play, shit first touch. Doesn’t offer anything and relies on everyone around him to do the work for him...I like the guy and wish him the best but he was just never United quality.

Why, what’s so different about Italy? Sounds like an excuse in case he smashes it. “Even if he scores 100 goals he’s still shit!!”

A lot easier competition in terms of teams.

...and no it’s not an excuse. Likewise I love Mourinho (before he joined United) and was/still am a huge fan of his. However similar to Lukaku, Mourinho was never United quality. I have all the respect in the world for what José’s done and is capable of doing but it was never aligned with United’s values and style of play. I really am pulling for him that he finds the right gig in the near future and smashes it.

I’m not a fan of Lukaku’s like I am Mourinho’s but I don’t hate the lad. He’s pretty likeable at the end of the day. And it’s just the truth. He can score goals but he’s not any sort of complete footballer by any means.

He is a better footballer than given credit for. I don’t agree that he has shit build up or that he offers nothing beyond goals for example.

He is absolute shit. 1 goal against Chelsea 18 months ago is his ONLY PL-goal against top 10 teams. On top of that his only contribution is first touches that looks like a tackle.

He basically confirmed all the concerns that were readily visible and voiced when he signed, so it's not like any of it is a surprise.

The surprise was that then he went and piled on the pounds.

Good luck, was lucky to play for utd and ended it on bad note. Delighted to see the oversized lump moving on.

I dare say most DOFs would gave bought Lukaku, it just hasn't worked out.
City’s DOF wouldn’t have bought Lukaku.

If we (grudgingly) accept Pep as the best manager currently working, what would he have done with Lukaku had he inherited him in his squad? He’d have transfer listed him before lunchtime on his first day, once he’d stopped laughing/crying at his “technique”.

So if we don’t get anyone in, then it’s another lie by OGS regarding “anyone sold will have bought replacement” or something to that effect?

I’m not anti OGS by any means at the moment but he isn’t really winning me with all these sound bites that turn out to be lies. Is he hoping the academy bails him out Co92 style?
That argument doesn't hold for Lukaku. Getting rid of him in itself replaces his goals and replenishes the overall number of goals which can be scored by the team. In simpler terms he was is an anchor who will drag down any team trying to play quick attacking football. @WR10 has described it very well a few posts back.

His 45 goals over 2 seasons will be missed if he isn't replaced by a competent goalscorer. Not a player who could lead the attack at Liverpool and City but good enough for a top 4 contender. Both Sarri and Conte want him and they know football better than the posters on here. Bitterness makes people stupid.

So we broken even on the deal? Ok, time to move on but I still wonder where all the goals will come from.
We got more back technically.

We had him for 2 seasons and still managed to sell for the price we acquired him for.

Same way the Di Maria sale wasn't really a 'loss'.

Moyes and Mourinho also know football better than all of us, it doesn't make some of their choices any less weird.

He played as the main CF/ST for us. If that is not his best position I don't know what is. Problem was he wasn't good at holding up the ball or was clinical. He is only good enough when there is space to run which he will never get at top clubs as most teams would sit back.
I’m not defending him by any means, he’s had his chances and hadn’t been good enough. I don’t think the fact he was often used as target man, and isolated up front helped him though.

It's Ole that wanted him out and if it all goes wrong it will be down to him. He will now be judged on all the decisions he has made this window. If he is not replaced then it has put untold pressure on that forward line, one of whom is an inexperienced kid. People say they are going to be patient, I hope they are, but some will moan as soon as we go on a bad run.

Now then, I wonder if other stuff happens because of this.

Getting a MF for example.

Have to agree. So many posters saying good business, great business, etc.

This is a striker heading into his potentially prime years with a phenomenal goal scoring record. Say what you want about the rest of his game, but for every nice touch and fancy bit of skill Rashford and Martial has, Lukaku has a goal!

We are by far worse off heading into the season without him. Mandzukic is little more than a cheap plaster for a swim in rough seas.

Given our loss of Herrera and Fellaini as well, we are significantly worse off.

Yes happy to be seeing more of the younger players, but they should be instead of deadwood, not instead of our most productive players.

Aside from hope to save us, we are by far worse off. It's down to the kids will never win it, only this time they are even less experienced and really probably won't win it!

This all said a top class midfielder and suddenly the pendulum swings from dire to great, at least then we have a real solid base for the youngsters to play around.

Don't hate the guy by any means, he's got his limitations, had them when at Everton too. I can't hate a guy because they aren't good enough.

But good price for him and its for the best he goes.

I didn't know Italian teams apart from Juve could arrive at the 80m mark for a transfer. And its not like Inter sold anyone big these past years.
