AS Adema 149–0 SO l'Emyrne - SOE deliberately scored 149 own goals in protest over refereeing decisions that had gone against them during a four-team playoff tournament.

The first half of our quarter final first leg against Barcelona in 2000, three goals in 9 minutes. Zola, Flo, Flo. I was in a complete state of disbelief and delirious at the same time.

Not sure games from the last day of the season when both teams have stopped caring should really count.

City and United beating Spurs and Arsenal 5-1 and 8-2 respectively on the same day takes some beating for me.

All things considered, if not the most unbelievable result but certainly one of the most surprising results for ages was last season when we beat PSG in Paris.

I wonder how many people really saw that coming ??

I don't think anybody did, not even PSG. Which is probably why it happened.

The one where Spain needed to win by 11 goals to qualify ahead of us and magically did in the most obviously manipulated football match of all time.

Rather than 8-2, I'd say Man. United beating Arsenal 6-1 in 2001 was more bizarre one to watch. Dwight Yorke had a stormer that day. From what I remember you had 7 attacks and scored 6 goals from it. Arsenal also had a very strong side in those days and games between the two were also ridiculously tight and usually decided by one goal margin.

The 7-1 win against Roma in the CL a few years ago, with some cracking goals in there (notably one by Carrick). Remember watching it with my brothers in disbelief.

EDIT: actually 2 great goals by Carrick!

Denmark 1:5 Spain at 1986 World Cup.

Denmark was arguably the best/second best team in the world at the time. Definitely the most exciting. Michael Laudrup, Preben Elkjaer, Soren Lerby and Morten Olsen were all among the best in the world in their respective positions. Spain was mostly decent/average with the exception of Butrageno.

Denmark scored first, Spain scored two and Denmark went all-in despite the fact that they’ve had more than 30 minutes... and got bloody murdered on the counter. Butrageno scored 4.

A couple of articles on that team:

Real Madrid - Barcelona 2-6.

Deportivo La Coruna losing 8-3 to Monaco and then achieving one of the greatest comebacks in the history of the CL against AC Milan (4-0).

LvG's Ajax destroying Bayern Munich in CL semi-final in 1995 5-2.

In terms of what the feck is going on here is the Netherlands-France 4-1 match in Euro 2008. You could even argue that France was the better team but it was one of those cases where everything goes wrong for one team and everything goes right for the other. An Unbelievable result really and one that overhyped the Dutch who eventually were eliminated by Russia in the quarter-final.

Others have already been mentioned.
Madrid have been on the end of some leatherings from Barcelona in recent years. I've seen Pique do the hand celebration multiple times.

True, but that was the first one and it raised a lot of eyebrows. Even in the game when Ronaldinho ran rings around them the scoreline was quite decent from Real's perspective.

Bayern beating Barca 7 - 0 over two legs in the CL was crazy. Just destroyed them with ease.

Calais beating Bordeaux in the French Cup semis 3-1. Bordeaux were the defending league champions while Calais were in the 4th tier.

What are the biggest freak results that you can remember witnessing in football? I'm talking about games where you're watching it in sheer disbelief at how the result is shaping up. The outcome itself doesn't have to be surprising (i.e. the favoured team can have won but in a devastating fashion).

Off the top of my head I can think of Germany annihilating Brazil 7-1 in 2014, that's probably the most surreal I've felt watching a game. In the Premier League these three spring to mind: United's 8-2 win v Arsenal, City's 6-1 at Old Trafford, Stoke beating Liverpool 6-1.
Last seasons FA cup final when i went following Watford. I expected to lose. But didn’t see that result coming.

Not including shit results for us so:

8-2 vs Arsenal.
Holland 5 Spain 1. That RvP header.
Germany 7 Brazil 1. Almost felt bad for Brazil.
Arsenal 4 Spurs 4-the one with the Bentley goal.
Chelsea getting thrashed 6-0 by City last season.

And one of the best games Ive ever seen Liverpool 4 Arsenal 4 with Arsharvin scoring everytime he touched the ball.

Spurs 3 Utd 5. Had been at work & was planning to listen to the 2nd half on the radio. Tuned in at half time to hear we were 3 - 0 down. Didn't bother listening to the 2nd half. Tuned in again at full time & was in disbelief. It's still the most incredible comeback in PL history.

More or less the same for me last April.

Was listening to our match at the Etihad just before getting on a plane with the score 2-0 for Citeh.

Got off the plane 12 hours later, went straight to bed, and it was about 16.00 Sunday afternoon, UK time, before I knew we'd won.

Wigan 5-3 Blackburn in 2007/08.

I was there for it cause of one of my Wigan supporting mates and witnessed both Marcus Bent and Roque Santa Cruz score hat tricks.

United 7 - 1 Roma

That was mental that night
Still my favourite night at OT I think. Although being there for the Villa game winning the title and RVP's volley might eclipse it.

Can remember the Roma fans charging down the road from the cricket ground as we were trying to get round to the south stand and chaos ensuing.

Can remember someone being on the pitch (ex-player but can't remember who) saying we needed to stick it to them after the scenes with the fans and police in Rome.

Can remember the buzz and the fight in the atmosphere from way before the start of the match. Any time the Roma fans made any noise it felt like the entirety of OT told them to feck off.

Can also remember that it was the first and thankfully only game I've been to where I was in a box seat eating prawn sandwiches. We walked in for our half time meal and the host for the box that evening said 'well that was shite wasn't it?' and everyone laughed. I was convinced I wasn't gonna be allowed to make any noise and would have to sit down but I don't think I sat down all game and I lost my voice by the end. All whilst wearing my first ever, very ill fitting suit at 17. Magic night, Ronaldo was at peak dribble threat all game, going past them for fun and Rooney and Giggs were a buzz. Carrick got two worldies and him and Fletcher ran the game in the middle. Alan Smith's goal and Rooney's were both beautiful counters that were so thrilling to watch it felt unreal.

Still possible that De Rossi's goal was the best of the night but all of them were great goals, even Evra's finish at the end for the 7th.

I've watched the highlights so many times I know the commentary off by heart but I never heard it on the night because I was there. Mental.

They did have a strong team but half their defence was injured, so it was the likes of Luzhny and Stepanovs from memory.

I was at my local team, Oxford, playing at home to Pompey back in the 90’s and they were 5-2 down going into the 89th minute and somehow scored three goals in last three minutes to draw 5-5 !

7-1 spanking of Roma. I believe it was from that night that we started to become really feared in Europe again

There was match beetwen Gangwon and Pohang Steelers in South Korea two months ago which ended 5:4.

Best thing about it is that PS were 0:4 up with half and hour to go when Gangwon made it 1:4 only to score 4 more goals, from which 3 came in extra time and seal the win 5:4.

Was watching highlights from the match and Gangwon not only scored 5 goals but had several amazing misses while result was 1:4 and 2:4.
