Conceivably what size attendance do you think we could consistently get, be it from a new stadium or a stadium expansion (assume no limit)? Perhaps even write both peak attendance and average attendance.

I think with unknowns over potential safe standing it'd be silly to expand.
No point expanding significantly if safe standing becomes commonplace in the next few years and would give an increase any way.
I'd assume that is what would happen in the future - safe standing in stretford end with a slight decrease in ticket price (or the price not going up) would increase capacity and still sell out no problem for most games.
It's only viable to do significant redevelopment if we can literally modernise the whole ground adding significant corporate stuff and/or sponsorship to make it worthwhile otherwise there's little point from the owners point of view.

They never actually sold out against Utd and Arsenal at Wembley last season (I was there), there’s also a novility factor in playing at Wembley, they wouldn’t have been able to sustain those attendances.
We could get more fans at OT if the prices dropped, but then that limits the point in increasing the capacity. Only the big games sell out these days.
Completely agree. Old Trafford has so much charm to it and it'd be a shame to go that route. Best stadium I've ever been to!
State of OT tonight. One major leak that they showed on tv but a few mates at the stadium tonight have txt me and said their are many more smaller ones. Just another indication we need a revamp/investment, but another indicator of our inept owners.

I don't mind the stadium being antiquated, if it was at least in good condition. But it's rapidly turning into a complete dump. Paint peeling everywhere, holes in the roof. The bathrooms were a fecking disgrace the last time I was there.

Anfield doesn’t have a big screen - or at least if didn’t? I believe OT and Anfield are the only clubs who don’t have a big screen (although that may have changed with the newest promoted clubs).
It does feel old and not in a good way. Its like youre going back in time when you enter Old Trafford.
I read that Old Trafford and Anfield are the only stadiums not able to show VAR but the league is letting it slide for some reason.
I don’t think it’s a case of letting it slide - there’s no requirement to show anything on a big screen. You will see updates on the scoreboard (at OT at least). Just shows the age of the two stadiums.
I find it strange we can’t find a spot to hang 2 screens in a 75000 seater stadium. I guess behind the goals is not an option with rashford’s free kicks

I know these articles are from the Daily Mail, but this is the first time in a while I have seen sustained criticism of the stadium from outside fans online. A court case into the death of a fan at Old Trafford has found that there are serious issues at the stadium and has encouraged change, while the ground may also lose out on hosting games at the Euros next year due to the fact that large parts of the stadium could be deemed unfit for purpose.
Additionally, there is the article criticizing the fact that United have been left behind by other clubs, not just those who have built new grounds but also by those who have kept their own but have went / are undergoing major renovation work to keep up with the times.
I love Old Trafford, and I would never want us to move or build another ground. But the lack of investment in the stadium and the state of disrepair that it has fallen into is really poor, and a major refurbishment is required. Unfortunately, I cannot see this happening any time soon.

Unbelievable neglect.
Scandalous, I used to be proud of that stadium now it’s becoming embarrassing and embodies the state of the club.
Instead of increasing the capacity, why don't they make it safer and more comfortable for the people already going there. They will just cram even more seats in and turn it into an even bigger safety hazard.

Every time this thread is bumped I get excited cause I think maybe we are finally planning to do something about it but as always being left disappointed. The state of the stadium reflects the state of our club right now. Absolute shambles.
I remember football manager years ago where I’d purposely get Liverpool relegated, parts of their ground would get closed down for various reasons.

I'm strongly against a new stadium for United, to the point where I could see myself chained in front of bulldozers on Matt Busby Way if they ever decided to demolish Old Trafford, as you can't buy the history we have at that ground. Also I've always given short shrift to complaints about leg room, the red spotted floors in the concourse and a general bit of shabbiness. But if the ground is now unsafe and in danger of failing to meet standards to host games that is a serious issue and is a living symbol of the decline this club has suffered under the Glazers.
If Barca can do these we can at least do a bodgeitscarperandrun job on Old Trafford instead of the annual lick of paint which seems to have been our efforts the last decade to maintain it.

A renovation of the stadium is long overdue. I have always thought and still do that the club has waited with this to combine it with an expansion of the stadium. It would make financial and logistical sense. But if the expansion is not due anytime soon; the renovation should go ahead, at least basically.
That's the biggest thing for me. The fact that an iconic stadium like Old Trafford may not host Euro games next year and is unsafe in parts is a disgrace. The neglect the stadium has been shown is appalling.
We really should look at the railing seating idea, not only would it improve safety but the atmosphere and experience too. It's been shameful how we've neglected OT for so many years.
They are probably waiting to see where that goes. It's becoming wait and see where United are concerned. A club of our size should be at the cutting edge of everything, yet we are miles behind.
Could do with a new roof, the views are crap from high up and obviously there's some leaks now. I was disappointed when work went underway at the ends of the grounds and then later the quadrants. They could've done a new roof then and should've done the quadrants while doing the new tier behind each goal, they look a mess.

Certainly Old Trafford is dated compared to todays stadiums. It's simply a football stadium, I was there near the end of last season and didn't have any complaints from my only wish to watch the game. I didn't see anything crumbling, worn or broken. Nothing wrong with the entrance, stairs, seats, bars and rebuilding it would only look the same from my point of view.
From a commercial point of view I understand it's not up to par with rich clientele and could be more inviting during the week for people. It's about developing the whole area.
We've reached a point where it's hard to put money in when you could just build another.

Stadium is going to be just fine for Championship next season.
That would be awesome. Its not for the club to decide though sadly. Its on the PL to allow it. And maybe even the UK authorities, I dont know. If they did probably more than half of the clubs in the PL would jump on it. Its not as af its a costly renovation.
