Progress is always judged as a measure of where you are relative to where you were and where you want to get to. Not just that it is also a measure of where you are relative to where everyone else is as well. So what are the positives and negatives and how would I rate our widow out of 10.

Well overall I would rate the window as a 6 out of 10 (we needed an 8 at least).

Here are my positives:
  • We have finally addressed our defensive weaknesses and in Harry Maguire we have someone who will emerge as a strong leader and possible future captain
  • We have bought for the future because both Wan-Bissaka and Maguire will be here for years to come
  • All three signings we have made absolutely want to be at United and there is no issue with their attitude
  • We haven't lost anyone that we want to keep. Both Pogba and De Gea in particular seem as if they are going to say, at least for another season
  • The lack of activity could signal that Ole believes that some of the youth academy players (Chong, Greenwood and Gomez) will be given more time to develop their potential

Here are my negatives:
  • Arsenal and Tottenham have done very good business and arguably have strengthened even more than us
  • Much as United will never formally acknowledge it, I am sure that there were players who would not come to us, primarily because we are not in the Champions League, but also likely because of prevailing uncertainty about the direction in which the club is heading
  • We did not strengthen in midfield and remain vulnerable to a concerted effort from Real Madrid to acquire Paul Pogba
  • We outspent City and Liverpool, but they still look stronger than us. Suggests that we are still years away from a title challenge
  • There are legitimate questions to be asked about the ambition of the owners. I am not sure that they have any real interest in seeing United become the dominant force in the Premier League again

How would you rate United's window out of 10?
