Valencia was rubbish. A winger with no end product that was bought for his background more than anything. No wonder standards have dropped if we think Valencia was great. De Gea, Chicharito and Van Persie were great. The rest weren't or aren't. Did Kagawa pull up any trees?
Chicharito over Valencia

Every single time in my book.

Although I don't say that to disparage Valencia. Both were good enough in their heyday and Tony V has longevity on Cheech. Bit silly to compare different positions anyway, but if I have to choose peak Chicharito > Valencia as sticking the ball in the net is the hardest job of all.

Possibly on his way to Derby County if reports are to be believed as a player/coach.

Would be madness for him to leave DC. Where he's loved by the fans and almost singlehandedly towing a club into a new era to go and walk away to play for Derby where he'll working his proverbials off so Derby can maybe go and finally get promoted.

Give him 2 years and Salford will have him as their player/manager.

Apparently he might be a player/coach there, so obviously not just about playing games over there but gaining experience for his life after playing.

Doubt it’s to do with just that.

Guess his family don’t like it there. Sad that he’s leaving for reasons beyond his control as thought he was a good advert for the MLS in England.

No it wouldn't be madness. He's going as player coach. He wants to move into management when his career is finished. He's going about it the proper way, learn the basics, get to know the craft.

He does what the wife says. I'm sure it's not great being away from family with 4 kids, regardless of the home help they can afford.

Will be a good move for him, playing in an exciting league and he'll get to go into coaching.

Good luck for him, though I don't think he'll succeed as a manager if he's planning to do this after he's done with this player-coach experiment.

From DC to DC.

Glad to have him back over here but his MLS highlights were the most I’d enjoyed watching him in years.

Well he's staying with DC until the MLS season finishes so hopefully they can continue to build on what they've managed in his short time over there. Don't blame him for coming back if his wife was determined for his kids to grow up over here.

While I can understand his family struggling to live in the US, I truly wonder how he feels. Is he really wanting to head home or was this actually what he wanted, as well?

Fair play, to putting family first, though. I can appreciate that.

DC will be really sad. He was absolutely loved here. On game days there was a real buzz around DC with everyone wearing Rooney shirts. He really was the star of the show

That’s what I wonder. DC is a great City too. Moving there, with millions and millions of dollars, I really don’t know how you can’t have a great time. Plus you can afford to travel as much as you want. Apparently it’s all because his wife can’t settle there. Personally I’d be gutted to have to move from Washington DC to fecking Derby. Also sucks for the MLS that one of your marquee players can get poached by a fecking championship club.

I am really sad about this. I was at the game on Sunday and almost every jersey with a name on it is Rooney. He really has worked his tail off for the club, it's a shame the ownership was too cheap to get him a couple of extra players to support him. Between the stupid tv deal and this, next year has the potential to be a disaster for the club that could take years to recover from.

Pretty much every DC United fan I know thinks Rooney deserved better and wished him the best at Derby.

You could tell he wasn't here to just ride the MLS wave and not put in a shift. That's not in his DNA anyway to be lazy.

He really gave his all for the club. Even denied extra privileges when the club suggested he get special treatment with hotel rooms and stuff.

I'm sad for DC and MLS myself. I think it's a big loss for the league. Even a 33 year old Rooney poured a lot of quality into the system.

For him, I wish him well and I think he will succeed. One thing about Rooney is he backs himself and loves this game like no one else. I know he isn't one of those natural magicians like quaresma but he is genius in his own way.

Derby will teach him a lot and I hope to see him manage a premier league club someday. Maybe after Ole gets tired of a champions league 3peat Wazza can take over :)

Home is home. If he loves (and is used to) English culture DC wouldn't seem that much fun (although DC is more "european" compared to other American cities... still very American).

It is surprising though because he kept talking about how much he enjoys the anonymity of being here. I bet if Rooney went to some towns here in N.C not a single person would recognize him.

Totally get why his family want to move back if that is the case. People on here need to ease off slating England, specifically the north west and perhaps go find a continental club to support. If I was a Chicago Bears fan I wouldn't be on their forums slating their city at every opportunity.

She won't be living in Derby. They'll go back and live in Cheshire in their family home.

He's had a new house built near knutsford and it looks like a supermarket but I bet it's probably the best house any footballer in england has atm. Its probably an hour and a half commute to derby.

He's (rightly imo) getting some shit for 32Red putting up part of his wage, meaning he'll wear shirt number 32.

Maybe 888Bet could sponsor Sanchez so his shirt number would accurately represent where he stands in the United squad.

So, what do we think of this? (Rooney Red Card)

I think thats soft as shit, but maybe I'm Rooney biased. You have to watch the last 5 seconds for the best angle of it.
