If that was near-embarrassing I'd hate to see what embarrassing looks like.

Says all the right things but no point in saying and not producing.

I agree about the player of the year, no-one really deserved it.

Haven't read the interview but I really wish our players didn't speak and let their football do the talking. I know they have media duties but it just gives people even more ammunition

He doesn't want to disrespect Huddersfield and Cardiff but losing to them in that manner was downright embarrassing. I'm glad he feels that way, I hope the rest of the players are keen not to let it happen again.

Sounds like we've been doing good things in pre-season, focusing on fitness. Now translate this talk into performances and we'll be flying.

Seems mental to me that Shaw's gonna have his 6th season here, doesn't feel that long at all.

As you said though the players have media obligations. They have to say something. Personally I prefer if they acknowledge how they underperformed.

Somewhere near? The whole club almost imploded but, sure Luke.

This transfer window has been somewhere near embarrassing too.

To be fair, considering how media-trained players are today, it is a little bit of a bold thing for him to come out and say.

Only issue is how awkward its going to be when this upcoming season is just as bad.

They can't give intervjues or say anything then. I don't know why people feel so strongly about this as they kind of have to from time to time.

Still seems really weird to me too, and I still have no solid opinion of him as a player. Sometimes think he's a really good player, got some great qualities (first touch in particular), other times I think we could do so much better.

Hope he has a really good season and kicks on from last year.

He talks about having more possession than in the last few years. I could see that not happen against the better equipped sides in midfield. It’ll be deep sitting counter attack I’d assume.

Good attitude from the lad to be fair. I reckon Shaw is ready for a big season. He's had a tough 5 years, last season was his first full season since his leg was literally snapped and rightly or wrongly (I believe rightly) he won our player of the season. He's still only just turned 24, with a settled defense, he's set to flourish.

The most embarrassing part of that was this:

Over in the academy building at Manchester United's training ground, the players are filming their goal celebrations for the new season

Is that for real? :houllier:

Shaw is right though, and he seems like one of the players with the right attitude now he has gotten over his weight issues.

We didn't lose to Huddesrfield last season...

We drew, which was an improvement on the season before, so that's a win in my book!

I think that's the general video that club/sky records for new season.

Isn't that for broadcasters (Sky/BT)?

Oh yeah  It felt so bad and the goal we conceded was so awful it felt like a defeat. Locals like yourself had to deal with us getting 1 point in 6 from their place over the two seasons, I don't know how you left the house.

I'm a big fan of Shaw. I hope he realises his potential to be one of the best in the world this season. I feel Shaw is a tad underrated. He's fast as lightning. Defensively he's a beast, good first touch, he just needs to improve his crossing and attacking play.

Good luck to him this season. He is one of the good, honest players playing for us that deserves to wear the shirt.

Wait, so these players have a higher level of embarrassment to show than what they did last season ? Since it was just "somewhere near".

The ending of the season was embarrassing.. some negative records were improved upon if i remember correct.

Shaw was one of the better players last season though.

Why are fans crucifying Shaw for coming out and saying all this? Surely, you'd think I am glad they realise they had a shocker and fair play to him for coming out.

Fans are way too negative.

That is nothing compared to what I see for other clubs.

Bayern have reaction gifs and everything. There's some with the Bayern mascot doing Fortnite dances.

Shaw needs to concentrate on performing and getting himself a lower bodyfat %. He's now the weak link in our first choice defence.

All eyes on Shaw this season.

Shaw was probably our most consistant player last year - so no taking the piss now, even if he's stating the blindingly obvious as if it's a sensational admission or discovery.

However....It was two personal brainfarts which cost us Top 4 - DDG against Chelski and Shaw at Huddersfield.

Just a little bit more from him, that day, and no apologies would be needed.

People will whinge about everything on here. We could win the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, Champions League, World Cup, Ryder Cup, The Ashes, Wimbledon, and Paris fashion week, all in the same season, while signing the love child of Jesus Christ and Pele, and people would still find something to whinge about.

It is just the nature of things. Best not to try and understand it.

In this thread: bitchy teenagers (at least in mentality) who don't read the article and call for players to shut up
