Veron wasn't a flop! How many times people will repeat that myth?
He really was a flop. His transfer was a record for England at the time. He lasted just 2 seasons and was sold at a loss. He started very well and was often good for us in Europe. But outside his promising start in the league he was well off the pace for the majority of those 2 seasons.

He is lucky though, now that in recent years we have had players like Di Maria and Alexis, Veron is no longer in our worst ever signings conversations. He owes them a dept of gratitude.

Veron was a complete flop. He was one of the very best players in the world prior to us buying him, and he simply wasn’t good enough. Some of that was because we had a great midfield, just because there were some extenuating circumstances we can’t determine he was anything but a failure. Can you, hand on heart say Veron was a success? He wasn’t.

You could see that he was a good player, but couldn’t cope with the PL, we sold him for 50% of what we paid for him - he’s the very definition of a flop. It’s just that the likes of Sanchez and Fred have been much worse!!

Kleberson.

I’m baffled by the Sanchez hate. At the time we swapped a under performing Mkhitaryan for a player who was rated in the top 10 in the league. It was a no brainer for us to make that deal. Has he been a good player for us? No. But at least we went after a top player instead of accepting average but wants to be here.
Mkhitaryan was poor alright, but he contribute massively to EL win in 2016. with goals across the competition.

Sanchez can only dream of that kind of contribution.

I advise them to watch the first couple of months highlights when he joined.
He was an animal.

He was also joining our best ever midfield lineup.

Some of the other names mentioned have joined way weaker teams, contributed less, and still not stood out in those lineups!

Biggest flop?

Sanchez
Falcao
Di Maria

then a million times less of one
Veron

Di Maria had about 1 strong month, Falcao scored about 4 goals, and could barely stay upright, let alone cut it at any pace.

Sanchez has scored 4-5 goals in 18months, looking incapable of outpacing anyone. Can't stay fit for longer than 6 weeks, and has gone from us thinking we'd made a massive game changer of a signing, to knowing at absolute best he'll be a 3rd or 4th choice for any forward position.

3 years more on his incredible contract, that we will have to put a massive % contribution in, to get any club to even look at it.

How is this even close? Sanchez could easily be the worst signing in PL history taking into account how much we’re paying him, what was expected, and what he’s actually produced.

Is it close though? It looks to me like most people are going for Sanchez.

Admittedly didn’t bother reading through the thread, my post was more directed to the op (or the title to be more exact). He thought it was close enough to warrant starting a thread!

Veron never was a flop. He contributed to our win in the PL. Yes there were games which he did not have a good game but there were games when he was brilliant.

Totally agree. Wish we could get rid of Sanchez.

If someone said to me 6 or 7 years ago, in a few years your forward line at Utd would be Sanchez. Falco. Di maria.
I would have said get the F**K out of here!

Instead, it was "get them the f**k out of here!"

Kleberson
Forlan (loved the guy for his effort, though)
Argie left back
Even Anderson didn’t live up to it
Rojo

Can’t think of one that was actually a success

Failing a Jib anywhere, anyhow
Veron was fecking fantastic in Europe. Had some brilliant games in the league as well. Although I’ll never forgot him being dispossessed at home to Boro and Alan bloody Boksic scoring the winner.

Without any shadow of doubt and by a long long way, it’s for to be Sanchez. Complete and utter disaster.

Of course Sanchez, di Maria performed well actually, its him being a cnut what caused him to leave the way he did.

Where all pretty much a waste of money

Heinze was controversial and nuts!

Forlan I liked even though mentally he wasn’t prepared to play here. Still those goals against Liverpool unforgettable...
some of those misses

Anderson injuries ruined him he could have been great!

The twins where great loved there attitude! Shame LVG flogged Rafa!

Romero is a pretty decent goalie no complaints excellent backup good attitude!

Performed well?
Other than his debut I can't remember another decent game, he couldn't pass 5 yards in the months before he left, total bottle job and a little rat for celebrating like he did at Old Trafford for PSG.
