Hasn't look sharp to me all preseason despite losing weight. Not enough attacking threat, and defensively too lets the crosses come in.
Average player that simply gets overrated and overprotected because of his nationality. He has all the tools to go forward and attack but simply stops and turns back like Valencia used to get peltered for. Probably because his aware he doesn't have the energy to get up and down without getting exposed in defence

Made a good few runs that were ignored by Rashford today but he did look to be struggiling in the dying moments.

Was absolutely terrible in pre-season last year but looked better when the season started so I’ll reserve judgement.

Why the feck doesn't he stop wingers/fullbacks from putting a free cross into our box? Like why?

Its infuriating every time he just backpeddles before half-assedly swinging his leg to block the cross, learn something from wan Bissaka!

His form tailed off at the end of last season Where he conceded goals from his side. Dont know how he got that player of the year award.

May be he wants to avoid injuries in preseason for now and is not putting all his effort in, let's see how he starts the season.

Actually I wonder if that video was when he had the issue with his hammy

Think Luke tweeted a response to Mata and Lukaku saying they only wanted him to go about 70% so sounds like something you would do if someone is worried about your hammy. Plus we already know he is one of the fastest in the team as Rashford, Lukaku and many others have mentioned it plus we have eyes. We know he is rapid.

However it makes for great banter that Juan Mata who looks like he is towing a caravan has beaten him

Anyone have stats as to the % of our attacks that end at the feet of Luke Shaw? It must be ridiculously high due to the amount we funnel through him.

His success rate at anything he does in the final third is pathetic

Agreed.

Given that Young is he back up/alternative I’m honestly shocked we aren’t pushing for Tierney.

I’m yet to be impressed with Shaw & he’s been here what? 4/5 years.

Either his positioning is really poor or he doesn't follow instructions properly because way too often the opposing player on the right side has a lot of space to put in a cross and he prefers to allow a cross to come in rather than risk having a player go past him by going a bit closer to block the cross.

He is average. We need to sign a LB to compete with him next summer alongside Sancho and the deep lying midfielder.

It’s a silent killer. We don’t seem to harp on it as much which is odd. He’s always passed the ball in promising positions because we are left side dominant.

He rarely rarely rarely produces ANYTHING out of it. He looks like he half asses any attempt with very little intellect/cunningness.

All I can hope is that Chilwell is the long term plan here.

He’s had a terrible injury & issues with management but he’s simply not at the level required given [as you say] our reliance on the left side.

It’s similar to the feeling I get with Young when i’m advanced positions. It’s either over or under hit & usually inaccurate.

Good enough at the moment, I have no serious issues with him. We need to get more used to the new system and not rely on some of the older players, who make it harder for everyone else.

His end product is shocking. Need an upgrade next summer.

I’ve only seen the 10-15min highlights of our preseason games so may be biased by that but does Shaw keep playing strikers on side when the centre backs step up?

We should play Dalot on the left if Shaw continues his poor form, please not young

We will act after arsenal sign tierney and spurs sign Sessegnon .

Ben Chilwell would be a clear upgrade on him.

Shaw jogs about too much for my liking and he's just not good going forward.

Realistically he'll contribute with 2 assists at the most and United will struggle to establish good play down that left side due to Shaw being completely reserved going forward. He doesn't want to commit himself because he is too unfit to keep running all game, so it'll effect his technique if he does so. It looks like he is more focused on preserving his energy than contribute. He takes forever on the ball and struggles to make a quick decision, which contributes heavily to making our whole play too safe, as you often need your fullback to move even if it is just to open up room for the midfield.

We don't even have a real competitor for him if he continues his tendencies. It is just not offensively he struggles to make use of his abilities, he has become a lot more soft in his defending. He used to put pressure on wingers pretty quickly when they moved around in his area, but these days he can't close them down quick enough and we concede a lot of needless chances because of this. Still good 1vs1 and in duels.

I think we should just get rid of him at this moment. His stock is not at its lowest right now but I assume his wages are big so if he doesn't improve this season we'd be stuck with him as his value would drop. Today I think we could have replaced him with someone like Chilwell, without losing much money if at all.

If we are looking for young leaders we should be looking at Tierney.

He had 4 assists and 1 goal in league last season.
Fine, maybe not quite so unrealistic as I portrayed it, and if he'll reach those numbers again that would be a good output from him, as I obviously expect less. Do you think he can finally step up in terms of assists and goals? I do actually feel he does well in getting in the right positions a lot, but he has no composure in those situations so those chances gets wasted when he is involved, its frustrating.

Tbh 5 goals contribution is a good return for a FB. For example only 9 Fullbacks have assisted more than 4 goals and only 9 FBs have scored more than 1 goal in PL last season. That's counting both RB/LB and few of them played as wingbacks.

Obviously we should expect him to kick on and produce even better numbers but more important than that he should make more overlapping runs, something our FBs stopped doing for years.

Was under a lot of pressure first half and was exposed a few times. Probably needed a bit more protection from Rashford .
