How small are the Hull crowds that only one fan was texting on their phone during the game?

It annoys the hell out of me that people can't even get through a movie these days without getting on their phone, or 45 minutes of a football match.*

Therefore I think this should be made standard practice at every single football ground.

*taking a photo or two I'm fine with, but posting on the cafe or texting your mates... should be punishable by stoning.
That went dark real quick.:nervous:

This thread will attract some serious gowls, now. "Well what are you doing texting people during a match anyway? Those people should be strung up!" they will say, while posting random bollocks on a message board and refusing to acknowledge the irony.
There is a difference between messing around on your phone when you are at an event or with friends and posting on an online forum when you are a home with nothing to do.

Private event venues usually have a lot of freedom in what they include in their "TOS", these things often legally infringe on rights people would have in public spaces. And obviously no visitor ever reads the fine print, just like on the internet.

@Spiersey (if I'm thinking of the right person) might well know a bit about the time it takes for odds to be adjusted etc.

Sure I read something about you paying for a fancy internet connection with very little to no latency or something to try and get a bit of an edge over the bookies?

Guess the most obvious possibility to capitalise on something like that would be from the second someone gets clattered in the box until the time a penalty is taken. Other stuff might be an obvious red card challenge, but there's a bit of a fracas or time delay to wave the physio on and check on the injured player before the ref actually pulls out the card.

Ahhh, it's not always judgemental though, studies have shown that leaving your phone behind and experiencing moments, concerts, hiking, live sport can lead to a healthier, happier life with a lesser risk of depression.
Well there's some studies. Now leave people alone to do what they want.

Regardless, complaining about either is acting the complete and total gowl. Let people enjoy things as they want to. feck the begrudgers.

You’d fit in well with the North Korean government.

There are also studies that show that people are happier when others mind their own business.

The delay is pretty much instant. There’s data company’s that send scouts to every single game that is in play on a bookmaker site. They use a PDA/second phone and update it in real time, eg dangerous attack, potential goal, potential red, potential pen etc and then the market suspends instantly once this button is pressed. Bookies have longer delays now on in play, circa 5+ seconds to confirm a bet so it’s virtually impossible to beat them on football.

I do use a low latency streaming program but I used that mainly to beat bookies on corners a year or two back. It doesn’t work anymore due to the increased delay.

You actually can. Its very common; especially in lower leagues like in Scandinavia if you are Norwegian. If you go to a first or second division game in Sweden with 2-300 spectators its very common to see one or two people (often of Asian descent, and I dont say that with any undertones other than its a fact, I have some insight in it) sitting on their phones the entire games.
Its often foreign students that gets paid for this outside their studies. And its not just reporting a goal, its reporting trends of a game, key players being injured or missing. Anything to affect the betting line.
Im not so sure that it would be so effective in such a relatively high-profile and televised league as this one. But yeah, it does exist and it seems pretty reasonable that this what was the stewards were reacting to, even if they were wrong in this case.
Those students are just relaying updates for professional gamblers. I have some people I pay to do similar.
They can’t give me updates quicker than the pro scout can update the betting sites. The scout just needs to press 2 buttons max to suspend all betting markets, whilst anyone watching would need to type a long text or speak, this combined with the delay makes it pretty much impossible now. We can’t get the data ahead of the bookies unless the Data Scout is purposely delaying information being relayed so that he can bet on it himself (this has been solved a bit as they have to wear microphones now to check for crowd noise on goals etc)

Doesn’t matter whether it’s a premier league game or an Icelandic 4th División game, the process for relaying the live data back to the bookmakers is identical as is the time frame.

Well, I suppose it's upto the person unless he or she was being an annoying twat.

But it's really sad when you go to live sports events or concerts, and people are more interested in posting to social media than actually watching it. Same with places as well. I'm afraid I'm guilty myself sometimes.
