What's the point of playing friendlies with clubs several divisions lower ?
Fitness. Same reason we play teams like Perth Glory, San Jose Earthquakes and Kristiansund.

Serie A is a couple of weeks away still. They need games.

It's a training game. Teams have those all the time in italy. Instead of playing starters vs subs, they get a semi-pro team to play against.

Again, that's my problem. You either establish that you are good enough to start with your performances, or you accept you are a squad player. The attitude that I'll just move elsewhere because i can't be bothered to improve is what's entirely unacceptable, and has left us short of a important squad position for this season. A professional and respectful way to do this would be what Pogba seems to be doing. Pogba knows he will have a good chance of winning the Champions League with other clubs which will be interested in signing him (Madrid, PSG, Barca, Juve), but he has decided to stay for this season. He knows we are rebuilding under a new manager, and if he leaves now, it will make it very hard for us to get into the top 4. I'm sure Pogba (like all man-utd fans here) knows that we won't win the league this season.
Difference is, we never wanted to sell Pogba, who is considered an important player for us. We were quite happy to sell Lukaku, who isn't.

If the Italian League is still as poor as it was when Pogba was at Juve, then Lukaku will be a big success.

Lukaku took a disproportionate amount of blame for our offensive impotence last season when we were creating 2-3 chances for him a game through an anemic midfield and lethargic team. He was never a speed based player, Mourinho got him to be a target man.

It's a miracle we got that fee, though, well done turning down the smaller bid, I don't think I could have!

Lukaku's touch is "not for everyone"

Honesty i think he'll do well in Serie A but will fade into obscurity where Inter lives
Watch him get the odd "accidental assist" in games. Pretty useful tool as it will baffle opposing defenders, as long as his teammates can predict which way the ball will bounce of his boot/shin.

Yeah, the odd accidental assist will be like booting it against a tree stump and it happens to bounce off it into the right place.

As well as the other points mentioned it’s sometimes done in England as a favour to smaller clubs. Gets a bit of money for them and helps with exposure. Obviously the trade off being the players get some match fitness.

He came up with some ridiculous comments, like criticizing the training in the PL, that in Italy, they do "real work".
To be fair, Evra said something similar once he had moved to Juventus.

As funny as this sounds. It's trancedi palmer. The guy is known to be the biggest bullshitter there is.

Hilarious if true though.

What a turnaround in opinion on this chap. Does not seem like 5 minutes ago that you were all singing songs about his penis.
Yeah that's what happens when you disrespect the club and act professionally over the course of a summer to engineer a move away. Fans tend to not take that stuff so well!

Anyone remember playing the original 2D Gran Theft Auto?

Remember the lorries being one of the quickest vehicles in the game when you get them on a long straight and they start building momentum?

Sorry, a little off topic but it just popped into my head for some reason.

He will get into shape. I recall Tevez losing a lot of weight when he went to Juventus as they said he’s been playing his whole career overweight. The result was probably the best Tevez we’ve seen.

If he is still overweight at this stage, how much overweight was he when he turned up at United? Although supposedly being injured and then not playing games won't have helped.
I haven’t a clue how much overweight he was when he turned up at Utd. That may have been one of the factoring decisions in letting him go - the guy couldn’t give a monkeys in getting himself in good shape for pre-season which shows his s*** attitude as a professional.

It’s also the part when he was criticising our training and saying Italy is the real work. Plus posting a speed test report without the club’s permission on his Twitter bragging about himself. Posting all that but still being out of shape is embarrassing and he looks a complete fool now.

I'm proud to say I never really wanted him here.

Granted, it was mostly because of his lack of technical ability, rather than being a fat cnut, but I still claim prescience.

Posting a speed test and then us scoring goals in second on the break was good.

He's just 6'4. He has no business being that heavy. I am 6'2 in average shape and only weigh 75 kg.
