He's been desperately unlucky to start the season with 2 losses, they are a much better team than the two results so far.

Lack of a striker is going to hurt them though, today the game should've been won in ET with Liverpool looking dead on their feet. But, then Tammy Abraham misses an open goal from 5 yards out.

They need to start picking up wins to the teams outside the top 6. Obviously impossible to do so as of yet, they're yet to face them. Leicester at home is a huge game.

Literally the only thing that could get Lamps the sack this season is if we are in the relegation zone for an extended period. Not happening.

Very, very encouraged by the improvement of some of our lads. Also clear that the midfield 3 we used today is the way to go against top teams. All 3 of Kante, Jorginho, and Kovacic were great.

This side desperately needs 2-3 additions and we're good to go. A dynamic, clinical striker is obviously top priority.

He’s got them playing very good football. The pace they played at in the first half was really good to watch. They do seem to fade in spells and let the opposition get at them.

Still they’re very much a work in progress. Hopefully Lampard gets some time to build his side.

Lampard has influenced Chelsea to play a better brand of football than any of what Solskjaer showed even in the 11 game undefeated run. He's not going to get sacked so long as he's consistent with the performances. The results will come more abundantly when he gets his own players especially clinical forwards.

I don't see why anything thinks Chelsea won't challenge top four.

Chelsea has looked solid in both matches, don't think he'll get sacked this season, not even Roman is that insane, I guess...

But the window is closed and they have a transfer ban?

Yes next season hence I mentioned the consistency in performances. If Chelsea finish 5th / 6th I don't see why Lampard should be sacked. It's not exactly a balanced team he's adopted.

Didn't watch this game but I was hugely impressed by how well they played against us. Their short passing and quality on the ball was excellent. If that was a sign of his coaching, he may surprise many here

Is it possible that Chelsea 19/20 is one of those teams that "plays better" yet cannot win?

Because that reeks of "loser".

What's the point? 5th-6th and UCL Round of 16 but we played better? The sack in May it is.
It doesn't reek of 'loser'. They've sold their talisman and are banned from buying players. If Lampard keeps impressing in the fluitity and cohesion of chelsea's football, develops the players they do have but finishes 5th/6th, they'd be fools to sell him. I think they will challenge for top 4 but the point is that in a season like this, where the manager hasn't been give much, you have to consider the other metrics as well. So far, I've been impressed in terms of those.

Tbh if that midfield is given an extended run together it could be second best in the league. Very strange to see a Chelsea squad lacking in depth though but injuries have played a part.

Wasn't that their midfield 3 for nearly all of last season?

As a team, they played really well. Played with intensity, pressed well and made it difficult for us to play even late in the game. Their midfield out-midfielded ours basically.

Don't see them challenging for the title, given the quality of some of the players he is playing, but if they had attackers to match their midfield tonight we'd have lost this one.

On our side, I was encouraged by the fact that you were relentlessly trying to beat the offside and it held up so well on our end.

I said this before, but Chelsea don't have a bad squad at all. They are short in attack, and need Rudiger back in defence, but their midfield is one of the strongest in the league, with both quality and quantity there. They are not far from a very good team, and I think they should be fighting for top 4 this season.

The Chelsea fans won't ask for his sack unless he is in the relegation places by December. Unless that happens, don't think he will get the sack.

Yes but they look completely different under Lampard than they did with Sarri.

I was really impressed with Chelsea in both games. As everyone else has said, they will struggle without a top striker and maybe in defence too, but that kid who came on yesterday looked pretty decent. It might be a blessing long term that’s the likes of him and Mount get game time.

Its an excellent midfield for big games as shown last night and at home to City and Liverpool last season. Could help us surprise a few in the CL (very much doubt we'll win in but wouldn't rule out a deep run).

However it should never be used against any team outside the top six.

Tammy Abraham, in his thread everyone was bashing him beyond belief.

Think both games they have put in decent performances. Just needs that first win. Need Rudiger back and someone is going to have to take on that goal scoring role.

Very early days for Lamard as Chelsea manager. But I'm extremely impressed by A) the instant imprint he's made on the team in their work on the ball. They look like a team that is very well coached going forward and B) how he seems to getting some kids playing at the highest level. They could be crushed by the pressure but are getting on with confidently and performing.

Of course he has much to prove. They look careless and weak defensively. Whether that'll improve, who knows. Is the fluidity in attack lampard or the new manager bump as we got with ole for a few games. How is he in the transfer market. How will he handle big names.

But there are some good signs.

I've said this from last season that Lampard is a better coach then Ole. Chelsea are poor defensively because they have poor individuals covering those positions. I'd much rather have Chelsea's issues from a tactical standpoint than the ones we currently have at United.

Tomori. Lampard had him on loan at Derby last season (where he won their player of the season).
Yeah. I know nothing about him though. Seemed from what little I saw that he had some potential though.

I'd have to watch mode games but based on the sample size I so far agree. He's got kids playing swashbuckling cohesive football. Very impressed.

He's on another level to Ole from a 'coaching' perspective and drilling the players. Whether that will in time make him a more effective points getter than Ole, time will tell but I think if he had the same budget as Ole, and all things being equal he's going to have the better managerial career long term.

Think he'll do very impressive things when he can truly craft the team into what he wants. He's working with leftovers right now to a certain degree. You can see what he's trying to do, and I'm honestly a bit jealous.

We can have sack watch threads all we want - plain fact is he's got a squad that's arguably worse than ours unarguably playing better, more attractive football.
