New coach to be appointed for Team India. Candidates in running are Mike Hesson, Tom Moody, Ravi Shastri (Please God No), Robin Singh, Lalchand Rajput. Jayawardene is also rumoured to be one of the candidate.

I hope it is one of Hesson or Moody. Hesson would be a good choice from tactics point of view but not sure how entertained Kohli will losing his yes man in Shastri. If Shastri is retained it will clearly show how powerful Kohli is and such instance has never been seen before in Indian cricket, a player controlling the board. Hope senses prevail and we appoint a deserving candidate.

The spelling of hesson in that document probably tells you how seriously he was taken.

Great news. Give him a lifetime contract so my ears don't have to bleed listening to him on commentary ever again.

A moment of silence for those who believed this was actually a selection and not an elaborate troll by BCCI.

Jeez even the names for 'The Hundred' are a load of rubbish!

From the BBC:

Names for the eight teams are yet to be confirmed by the England and Wales Cricket Board, but the Headingley-based franchise will reportedly be known as Northern Superchargers.

Other trademark applications lodged and published on the Intellectual Property Office include London Spirit, Southern Brave, Birmingham Phoenix, Trent Rockets, Welsh Fire and Oval Invincibles.
This really is the worst idea the ECB have come up with in my lifetime. In an already overcrowded calendar, to produce a 4th format that's been universally vilified and no one seems to want is just ludicrous.

They are seriously expecting fans of Somerset and Gloucestershire to travel to Cardiff and support the 'Welsh Fire'. Just because it's the England and Wales Cricket Board, I think they've misread that one a bit.

Similarly as a Derbyshire member, we will be expected to go to Nottingham (admittedly only a few miles down the road) to support the Trent Rockets. If they really wanted to make this work it should at least have had a name that encompassed the whole of the East Midlands.

The favourable treatment received by the bigger counties, particularly those based at Test grounds is absurd but it's been this way for decades and doesn't look like it will change any time soon.

The balance of Indian team against WI is not right. 4 main bowlers (including Jadeja as the lone spinner) and no one else who can come in and bowl a few so that the main guys can rest up a little.

Dropping your seasoned spinner in Ashwin is a joke. Very much evident he and shastri don't see eye to eye and have ongoing issues. Gavaskar rightly called out the captain and the team management for this.

Vihari is a decent part time off spinner.

@JohnnyKills. He openly wanted Shastri and is now playing the strings. The guy is too powerful for my liking.

Agree Ash. He's a great player but not convinced about his leadership. Rohit won the IPL this year, where did Virat's team finish?
Maybe bottom. I don't quite remember but it was a disastrous outing for their franchise, RCB. Anyways I just don't see him leaving the captaincy position, at least not for the next 2 years unless we start losing the meaningless ODI series too. I would still have him for tests. He does well in that format.

Fewest balls to 50 wickets for India in tests
1. Bumrah 2465
2. Ashwin 2597

He is a beast of a bowler.

He's brilliant. Remember that WC game against Australia when they were trying to smash him and couldn't even lay a bat on it.

Do feel like his action will cause injuries in the years to come, but he's probably the best bowler in the world at the moment.

@AshRK and other India fans - do you think Stokes will be picked up in the IPL next year?

He's flavour of the month at the moment but he's not got a great IPL record and his reserve price will be huge.

Easily. Reputation and popularity is what counts the most in the IPL.

It's why yuvraj was making a killing even when he was a bit useless.

I think he is already a part of Rajasthan Royals and I do not see any reason they will let him go unless ECB wants their players to pull out. Rajasthan, in fact, have a wonderful squad which includes Buttler, Stokes, Archer and Smith. Surely if they all play the whole tournament I can see them even winning it.

Yeah he's part of the Royals squad Ash. Do they have the right to retain him though? I don't know how it works tbh.

Tbh I don't think he's a great buy for the IPL. He's a world-class Test and 50-over player but his bowling isn't suited to Indian conditions and he's not great at blasting from ball 1 like Buttler, Gayle etc. He's also really expensive so takes up a big part of his team's budget.

Hopefully he'll be allowed to play though. England should be encouraging their players to take part.

I think the next big auction is not untill 2021 so Stokes will play for RR unless they themselves let him go which won't make sense.

You are correct he is not that suited for Indian condition but let us not forget he had a brilliant season in 2017 where he was the MVP of the season. I still think a fully motivated Stokes would be hard to stop.

True. I think he should bat 3 and be told to bat through the innings. That way he has plenty of time to get himself in and can accelerate towards the end of the innings.

I actually think English players have hugely benefited from participating in IPL. Getting a better exposure by playing in the subcontinent conditions has surely helped the likes of Buttler to better their game even more. I know there are people who still think IPL is just a form of entertainment but I feel the last 4 or 5 years it has become every competitive and is giving great exposures to many players. I still think it is the best T20 tournament in world cricket right now.

Agree. I'd be happy for them to be withdrawn from Big Bash, CPL etc but they should be encouraged to play in the IPL.

I actually like Big bash and wish BCCI allows Indian players to participate in other leagues, especially the fringe players who are not getting to play regular matches here. I also think ECB missed a golden chance to revamp their T20 league. Instead they are going for the 100 which just complicates the game even more. We already have 3 formats , why add another.
