You really can’t expect Vinicius to lead the team this season. He’s not ready yet and he lacks consistency, and with aging Benzema and forgotten Bale they lack a star man upfront.

Kante would be a great addition to any team, but I’m not sure if he’s the difference between a successful and unsuccessful Real Madrid.
I don't think that Hazard is going to be the difference between a successful and unsuccessful Real Madrid either. I think that their central midfield is and was a far bigger issue than upgrading Vinicius. I also don't expect him to lead the team, I would expect them to play as a team and veterans like Bale, Benzema and Kroos to lead in the attacking zones.

Kante is a top, top player.Would love to have him in our team.
As would I.

I don't know where my impression comes from that Chelsea aren't that bothered about selling to rivals or haggling too much on price but I bet if we put a worthwhile offer in for him we'd get him easier than most transfers we try.

Definitely worth a shot because he'd be perfect.

Yea. I'm not sure where your impression comes from either. Selling our best player who has 4 years left on his contract. Perhaps £200m would do it?

I find that I love Kante more than most Chelsea fans ever would. He's so innocent and pure, like a puppy.

Wish united can get him someday, always running, always trying to win the ball back, he's the kind of player you never worry about trying to leave, unless you want to sell him.

Pure soul, worth every penny.

Was he even playing tonight?

For all his plaudits he can’t control a match.

If his ball playing partner isn’t having a good game he looks lost.

He was good. Kovacic on the other hand had a terrible cameo and Jorginho is known to be weak defensively.

Kovacic does nothing and gets zero criticism. They did just purchase him for 50 million.

The most amazing thing about his performances is that he is so little compared to most players and still puts on great games in a league known for tough physical challenges.

As someone who has exactly the same height as him, he is a inspiration. Never scared of the giants.

No you wouldn't, unless you bid after his legs go like you did with Matic.

Low centre of gravity and great upper body/core/leg strength and you can do most things well in his role. Not like he has to win many headers so he can focus on good tackling, strength and using his brain.

He also has cardio to play three matches in a row if need be

Love this man. Fantastic performance. Even in the 95th minute on that goal he's ran all the way forward with them. Does not stop.

Looks over his injuries from the past couple years as well. Love that Tuchel is managing his fitness and maximizing his impact when fit as opposed to playing him every week in roles that aren't suited for him.

You've kind of summed it up, less is more, Lampard playing him all game every game when fit was unbearable.

Less is more.

To be fair it started with Sarri - the reality is though Kante just works better in a midfield pairing as opposed to a 3. Credit to Tuchel for quickly recognising that a double 6 was the best axis around which to build the team.

Remember Sir Alex singled him out as one of the main reasons for Leicester winning the PL. What an asset to have in your squad. Tuchel's got him performing again at world class level which is where he should be. Brilliant performance last night!

Where has the other thread criticising him gone....?

It's really as simple as he only looks world class if we play a particular way with the "double 6", as Conte's Chelsea, Leicester and France have done.

Playing him in a midfield 3 doesn't work anywhere near as well, though we did somehow finish 3rd in Sarri's season and 4th last year doing that. Kante was better in the 3 than I would have imagined but still looked a fish out of water quite often in games.

An unfair player, I guess we can stop with the Fred comparisons again. He is so instrumental for their position play and ball retention. He continuously wins the ball and shields passing lanes, whilst being very quick to play the ball to the right colour when he intercepts. I have rarely seen Chelsea get dominated when Kovacic and Kante play together, they control the matches really well. So good at what he does and I wonder if he even realises it.

I personally think it's more opponent and rotstion related than system although ofcourse it helps.

The games Tuchel left him out in are the ones he tends to struggle/frustrate in.

You think Kante would look as good as yesterday in a 3 (any position in the 3) against any kind of decent opponent? Not seeing it myself.

I thought he left him out in some games recently because the extra quality carrying forward and on the ball of Kova was of more use than the extra quality in winning the ball we get with Kante in those games. Don't expect to see Kante against deep sitting teams at home (next couple of games?) for that reason.

Might see Billy and Jorginho in Midfield on Sunday ?

Two subs and .... Kante out-sprinting Atletico Madrid's midfield and defence.

Vardy and Mahrez stole the headlines, but Kante was the heart of that team. One of very few players over the years I was gutted we didn't get to sign.

Making that run in the 93rd min and NOT getting a pass would piss me right off!
It was as good as an assist in its own way. Kante doesn’t seem like he has the ability to be pissed off either.

He’s as pleasant a person as he is a phenomenal player. Would’ve loved him at United.

He came back to his old self in the match against us. Watch that game again and you'll see he stopped everything against us. EVERYTHING.

Would have been perfect for us.

You should've bought him then rather than spending similar money on Henry Mhkitiakdjdksjf. Chelsea paid his release clause, you could easily have done the same!

Apparently he really liked what Mourinho/Conte(can't be bothered to google who) had to say. He also added that "Chelsea showed interest first", which is such a Kante reason
