Our best pace bowler since Curtley Ambrose. Can’t believe we let him slip through our fingers.
Damn, I was thinking you must be wrong but I can't really think of any good fast bowler produced by WI. Taylor must be the best since and he was OK at best?

If you can’t get him out take him out i guess, proper old fashion West Indian bowling from Archer
That is much more like it.
Being hit by a hard cricket ball at well over 130ft/second.
I am old enough to remember the great Freddie Trueman saying, when he was a commentator and when the first cricket helmets were being worn, that if a batsman wore a helmet then he would bowl under arm to him.

One of the best passages of play in years that.

Have to say I was worried when Smith went down. Thankfully he's OK.

Archer's well and truly announced himself now though hasn't he. Best player of the modern era and he's basically knocked him out.

Can only see England repeating this tactic now. Bet they're gutted Wood and Stone are injured.

Feels a bit wasted on Root. Looks to have great stamina but to bowl him so much 1 test after not playing him because you're worried about an injury is weird.

EDIT: He's only bowled more overs in an innings once in his career!

Same reason about 8 others on the pitch were.. he was flattened, hit on the neck and the last guy that happened to died
And that shows why you probably don't have the mindset of a fast bowler.
Anyway. Smith should be wearing the side and back of the neck protector.

Yeah it’s really only been Jerome Taylor, and he was bang average. After that you get to names like Cottrel and Shannon Gabriel. Archer is definitely the best since Ambrose.

That's because he is West Indian.

No surprise as England had to go to Carribean to find themselves a genuine quick who can bowl bouncers

Someone died getting hit in that spot. It's only right to check on the batsman who's been hit. It's normal to do so in cricket.

Also, feck the people in the crowd who were booing when Smith come off. Over the lasst 15 years or so, half of the England support has turned into a bunch of yobs.

Was thinking exactly the same. Root captains like a 15-year-old at times.

Ian Bishop better than Jerome Taylor, surely

I hope he's alright - just seeing the replay of that is terrible to watch

Fastest and future best bowler in the world vs best batsman in the world.

One of the most absorbing, sometimes terrifying spells of bowling I’ve seen for a long time, from Archer.

And yet Smith resisted and took everything thrown at him, without conceding his wicket. Real braveheart stuff.

It’s an honourable score draw. Fcuking hell! Can’t wait for the next episode.

So you can apparently get a substitute for Smith? New rules in place.

Also with respect to Archer I hope that spell doesn't mean England become obsessed with short ball theory nonsense. Bowl him in short 5-6 over spells and get him pitching it well up at that pace.

Was amazing wasn’t it! Reminded me of Atherton vs Donald and Waqar vs Tendulkar from years ago.

I think England are really missing Anderson, who would have been immense in tandem with Archer during that spell. Archer softening them up, and Anderson bamboozling with swing. Can’t wait to see them bowl together.

Archer's great, but I'm not betting on him dethroning Rabada.
