I’m 6 foot and was about 107kg a couple of months ago. It took a few weeks of eating right and going to the gym to drop to 100kg. Surely a professional footballer can do that.
Yeah but I doubt you have as much muscle as he does. BMI is a load of shite. You probably have more fat to lose where his body fat percentage was probably low already, they just want it even lower.

Why the feck is he posing in the mirror as of that's proving some point? He's a footballer at the elite level, the absolute minimum you expect of him is that he's in good shape. He's no different to any other footballer at that level in that aspect. The issue is he's overweight. Is that something he can't quite grasp?

Yep.

I guess it's an important distinction in terms of his attitude. Actually being fat would suggest he's lazy and unprofessional, whereas being too bulked suggests that he's been stupid in the way he has trained.

Unfortunately for him and Inter it would probably be a lot easier to correct if he was just fat.
He’s told how to train by highly qualified and experienced professionals. By the looks of it he’s followed their advice closely, as he’s certainly not fat. Only stupid people I’m seeing are those who’re making out he’s fat.

Imagine your last two striker signings being Morata and Lukaku. Certainly doesn't speak for him having a good eye for a striker
Apparently he wants Alexis now

Don't get me wrong i appreciate his work in 16/17 but i can't believe so many Chelsea fans wanted to give this guy a blank cheque.

In that case the highly qualified and experienced professionals were wrong as even by Lukaku's own admission bulking up hindered him last season. Whether it was his idea or someone else's, he's been training in a stupid way that has left him fit but unfit for purpose.

Look at the image he posted, I’d be amazed if I was far off with a 10% guess.
Let me rephrase. He is not fat. He has good muscle mass but not as lean as most footballers tend to be. 10 percent BF is very low and just because he is showing abs doesn't necessarily mean he's very lean. He is more likely to be in the mid teens.(impossible to know for sure as it can depend on how his body stores fat and where) .

He is just doing the wrong training in my opinion. Training for hypertrophy when he should be doing more strength and explosive training that will help keep the muscle mass down.

He's not thick. The guy speaks about five different languages fluently. He's insecure and as somebody else said he reminds me of KD.
Yeh I agree. I know what it's like for some one to call you overweight or fat. I too lifted my shirt and showed my abs. Don't see the problem. It's funny. Fair play to him for a light hearted reply.

The speed test reply would have been funny if it wasn't him posting club data. That was pretty thick (no pun intended)

Thought he was "a grown ass man" to deal with critics but turned out that he has 12 year old girl's mentality.

To be fair if I looked like that and the football press was calling me fat I might post a cheeky pic too. Would've left off the caption though.

His key problem is that he was a fast striker who was also big and strong, and he doubled down on the latter and now he's just a big, strong striker, at a time when pace is more important than ever, and strength less so.

Why are people calling somebody insecure/childish because that person is upset that he's getting bullied because of his weight?

If thousands of people online were calling me fat I'd probably want to prove them wrong as well. Just because he's an athlete doesn't mean getting body shamed wouldn't impact him.

Especially since the bloke obviously works incredibly hard on his body, far harder than 99% of the people making fun of him. That's bound to sting.

They're not just making fun of him cause of his weight.
This is one of the main reasons

He looks like he's running at about 15% body fat which is low/reasonable for us plebs, high for a professional athlete.

Most try to be around 7-10% in professional sports.

Cycling is a little different but that's mostly on the grand tours where they can drop down to 5% over the entirety of the race.

Calling him fat is wrong, calling him out of shape for a professional footballer is right.

Whoever decided he needed to bulk up for the world cup needs a fecking kicking. Along with the United staff who allowed this to happen while he was playing for us. Its completely destroyed his balance as a footballer which he needed on the basis his first touch is dog shit.

If I was any of these teams i'd be more concerned about knee injuries further down the line. Football, like Basketball, netball etc, is very different to sports like Rugby in that heavy players dont just make longitudinal movements. Its the lateral movements going side to side. Add to that constant explosive movements and with that weight it’s a lot of stress through the knees

He didn’t retaliate because he was called fat, he leaked speed metrics when nobody accused him of being slow. He has other glaring weaknesses that he’s very well known for being criticised i.e. first touch.

Anyways he knows more than anyone the only way to retaliate to fans is on the pitch. Nothing is achieved by hitting back at the Twitter mob, frankly if you take their opinion seriously as a professional it shows how insecure you are.

He looks about 10% to me, but how do you judge? I’ve seen skinner blokes than me with higher fat levels than myself. You simply cannot tell by just looking at him. Finding this thread very badly reflecting on United fans. They wished him gone and now are ridiculing him at every opportunity. Plus then there’s all the fitness experts

People are entitled to have a laugh about players and I get why United fans make fun of Lukaku.

I just don't think it's insecure if somebody who is called fat by thousands of people wants to prove he's not fat. Like, who wouldn't? He's human after all, people ripping you about your weight feels like shit.

Well actually, you can. Especially if you know what a person looks like at respective body fat percentages.

Just so you understand where I am coming from, here's a brief guide.

https://www.mensjournal.com/health-fitness/what-4-specific-body-fat-percentage-ranges-look-men/9-13/

Given the clear lack of definition in his abdominal muscles and he's clearly got muscle unlike some other footballers who are small guys. He's nowhere near the 10% mark. Body builders role into comps at between 5 to 7% and lose the last 2-3% in the final week. At that stage they're still able to see alot of the micromuscles, especially those around the lats and rib cage. Lukaku aint showing them.

Why does he think he can do stepovers? He must realise "This isn't a strong part of my game" yet he keeps hoisting those tree trunks over the ball.

Lukaku browsing through his archives for successful stepovers so that he can post it on social media as we speak.

His problem is technicality and not just about phisique. If had a Berbatov touch no one would be giving him this much stick for that huge body.

You're in a job that pays you millions to remain in shape and able-bodied enough to display your technical skills and perform. When you fail to comply with the most basic standards then you are insanely unprofessional and disrespectful.

This is not him being bullied. You don't get bullied at work when you actively don't do your job. You get criticized and hopefully punished.

He is so overweight that it has stripped him off all his basic football skills. He rarely looked like an actual footballer last year. He looked like an American football player that was running around for a charity game every once in a while last year for us.

He can see his whole career crumbling, and instead of buckling down and addressing the things that are causing him to underperform, he's deciding to lash out at his bosses. Pathetic.

You just wait until he posts a video of him trapping the ball in training.

I'm not even surprised at this point. Glad we got him out of our club.
Same. Best transfer out we've done in years. It's funny to laugh at him now that I don't have to deal with the frustration of knowing this lump is playing for us.

I really feel like whatever technical ability he had in his trimmer days has regressed with his putting on weight so quickly. His stepovers seem less clumsy in his Everton days and in general he seems a bit more used to his body compared to now.
