BEAT Amazon Prime German with Eng subtitles.

German TV series seems like it's on a high with Dark and now this. May be premature as I just started this, but I detect some serious quality in this drama.

My Mrs is currently watching her 3rd straight episode of Lovesick, and I am absolutely baffled by the milquetoast terribleness of this show, the utter yawning charisma vacuum that is its lead, the bafflingly dramatic way its filmed (which would undermine the comedy, if there was any) the 2D blechdel test case love interest, and generally just how it’s managed to get 3 whole seasons commissioned...

I was merely slightly peeved at first, but then I googled Johnny Flynn out of some perverse curiosity, to find that not only was there not a small, culturally appreciated hate movement dedicated to his singularly empty awfulness, but that he’s actually been cast as David Bowie (David SHITTING BOWIE! - one of the most charismatic people of the 20th century FFS!) in the (admittedly unsanctioned) biopic, and now I’m genuinely quite angry about everything... I might go for a long walk to calm down.... Or kill something.... it’s a toss up at this point.

At least Daniel Ings is trying.

EDIT: They’re now in a strip club, and the comedy idiot character has said “it’s like a bar, but people take their clothes off!!”

Yes. Yes it is. That’s is what that is.

...And now one of the strippers is falling for said comedy idiot.... None of these writers have ever been to a strip club before. I can feel an infuriatingly inaccurate comedy drug scene coming on at any moment... I hate everything about this, and subsequently life.

It's amazing how many hot women the weird personality vacuum goes through as well. From what I saw of it, it felt like some sort of film student's project that somehow got commissioned to a full show.

I watched series 2 of GLOW, it was quite enjoyable and some of them wrestled better than the WWE's women's division did for years. Kate Nash scares me though, she reminds me of a cockney skeleton.

Wu Assassins on Netflix starring Iko Uwais and Kathryn Winnick is both quite good and quite shit. Sometimes the story is told so badly that I think I missed something, only to rewind and discover that I haven't, it just doesn't give a feck. The fight scenes are mostly very good especially the Uwais/Mark Dacascos ones, the others are obvious stunt doubles especially Michelle Krusiec's fights. The special effects are ropey as feck though, at one point they had to use a stunt double for Byron Mann, which is fair enough, at first they covered his face with lense flair which is fairly creative I suppose, but then they flat out just blurred out the stunt double's face. Which was a ballsy move. Other special effects feel like they are from 2006. I'm enjoying it, despite knowing it's objectively a bit pants. It reminds me of Martial Law a bit.

I dislike this new policy of Netflix and Amazon Prime listing all the bad things that are going to happen at the start as a warning, it's getting so descriptive that it's essentially spoilers at this point.

Just caught up with Gomorrah, what a show!

Thinking of watching succession, what do people think of it?
Really enjoyed Succession myself. Kinda got a Suits, Madmen kinda feel to it, and doesnt rely on flashes and bangs to keep the audience interested.

Finished watching The Wire. Took a couple of false starts to get into it, but once I did I really enjoyed it. Loved how it didn't lay everything on a plate for you and left you to "discover" things for yourself. Loads of "blink and you'll miss it" easter egg kinda things in there.

Just one thing that left me a little confused was
When the autopsy dude was bagging up poor Omar and his tag said 1960, but they said he was 34 on the report earlier in the episode. This was done on purpose I assume and was thinking....even though he was the baddest badass playing the game and legendary in the hood, at the end of the day he is just another dead nigga laid out on the slab and no one cares about him enough to make sure his tag is correct
Or is there an actual reason they brought our attention to it?

Need something else to watch now, recommend me something good please. Ideally a few seasons long and has finished (I hate having to wait a year or so in between seasons)

Haven't seen it, but ‘milquetoast’ is a fantastic word.

That’s my word of the day.

Just finished this.Thriller about a music/club promoter who is adopted by European Intelligence to bring down what turns out to be an organ trafficking ring. Set in Berlin, it's grimy and adrenaline pumped drama. A good watch.

I watched the first three Narcos series recently, and they were excellent. Very much recommend them.

I quite enjoyed Jean Claude Van Johnson on Amazon.

Premise : JCVD is a recruited secret agent carrying out covert ops whilst under the guise of being a washed up action star. It works because he has some fun with taking the piss out of himself and the genre.

Depending on what you like:

Just watched "Safe" on Netflix which is based on a Harlan Coban book, I watched it because I was 90% sure I'd read and enjoyed one of his books. Its about a father who's daughter has gone missing as has her boyfriend. It sounds simple and I thought I'd sussed it in the first scene but it's a whole lot more twisting than that and it wasn't until right when the "reveal" happened that I knew what happened. Also, aside from perhaps the police, the characters weren't stupid. Stupid characters making stupid decisions annoy me, these made intelligent insights.

Slasher- this is on Now TV and I *think* Netflix- there are apparently 3 series however I cant seem to find the 3rd and according to reviews it goes downhill a lot. Season 2 is the best. VERY gory but not in a silly way if that makes sense. I hate slow motion kills with the blood slowly spurting. Feel it removes any tension built up. Again you can't figure out the killer until right near the end. In the 2nd season especially, due to where the characters are (remote ski lodge) I actually felt the tension and isolation. If you've played Until Dawn on the ps4 it is similar.

Line of Duty.

Luther although I found the last 2 series were bordering on silly. They just discover a body but he is swanning off to faff around with another character. Also the focus on this other character removes some of the focus on the actual killers, I feel the killer could have really been developed as what they were doing was scary however its almost a background story. In the first couple of seasons it's more about the killer and him solving the case which is much better.

I was reading a review today about "Eerie" on Netflix has anyone tried it? Apparently it's freaking people out so much they cant sleep however apparently the House of Haunted Hill did that however I fell asleep during it so I'm sceptical

Started watching the first couple of episodes of The Boys last night. It's good, surprisingly good in fact! Look forward to the rest of it.

Wu Assassins!

Agree with this.

Fun watch though. Reminiscent of old style Kung Fu shows. Leave common sense out and enjoy the action. The storyline that follows the main character is interesting but they feel the need to shoehorn in the female cop just to relate to White audience, I suppose. Jarring, but still passable.

Only 5 episodes down, but I want to finish this. Mediocre show that's very enjoyable.

I read a few posts here about it being decent but not great so didn't immediately watch it or look it up (found the trailer a bit meh anyways). Then saw it's IMDB rating yesterday and immediately "acquired" it, it's brilliant!

Yeah, she feels so shoehorned in to meet a quota it's ridiculous. I like her in Vikings, but find her completely pointless and jarring in this. All it's doing is cutting down screen time for the actual leads who are quite good for the most part. I can't even work out what her investigation involves, why was she talking to Jeff Fahey about the fire? It makes no sense at all at times.

I'm on 5 episodes too and if it keeps going the way it is then I'll be hoping for a second series. Makes me wish they would bring back Martial Law with Sammo Hung that was also crap but brilliant.

Yeah, I was wondering if I missed something during that scene too. The CG character and the whole story is just base and should be scrapped and S1 should be a 6 episode mini-series.

The asian cast is pretty perfect here. I like how they resort to a stereotypical Chinatown where every character the protagonist interacts gives zen advice and knows kung fu. Brilliant!

Well if you don't know kung fu and don't dish out zen advice then you're obviously a triad or an angry judgemental parent.

I like that it's got Ryu from the Street Fighter movie and one of the guys from the Double Dragon movie.

I wish it was a Netflix show and we could see the entire season at one time. Having to wait a week is so frustrating! Episode 1 was so good last week!

Watched an episode on Wu Assassins and that was enough. Crap. The hot blonde wasn't enough to tempt me to watch more either.

Netflix really release some cheap shite these days.

Yeah the Netflix model has made me impatient when it comes to the traditional once a week release schedule. I'm actually going to wait for season 2 to finish i think so i can watch them all in one go, or over a 2-3 days period. When i start watching something i want it all!

But i think Succession is probably the best show on tv at the moment, for me.

I did that with Season 1 so I could finish the entire show in 2 nights. I don't think I can do it this time knowing how good it is
And yeah, I agree, I think it's easily one of the very best shows on TV right now. Really underrated for some reason.

2 episodes in and its very good for anyone that likes slow paced noir and crime drama from the guy who did Drive and The Neon Demon. I love the depth as the second episode is entirely in Spanish because it deals with a cartel. I heard another episode is in Japanese dealing with the Yakuza.

6 episodes in and this is my new favorite show.

Been watching Kim’s Convenience on Netflix.
A comedy series set in a Korean owned convenience store in sunny Toronto. Seriously it’s never winter in that show.

Sure some of the characters are cack but in the main it’s good for some laughs.

The wife was watching a show called Marvelous Mrs. Maisel or something like that. Seemed decent the little I saw of it...
