I've got one for kick off and UT but not had chance to try it yet. How does it work? Do I create a proper club and stuff like I would on the actual game? Is there even a transfer market etc?

Not sure how anyone else feels but I Personally think they have ruined ultimate team with icons. Just so OP for all but the very end of the game. Pure money making. Look how many they have now too

Downloaded the PES demo. Seriously thinking about switching this year and I’ve been playing Fifa since 97.

Is it good yeah? I might join you
It’s decent. Hard to get used to the different ways things work but I’m enjoying it. Thing is with these type of games though I could just be enjoying it because it’s new and eventually I’ll work out all the annoying flaws just like with Fifa.

Are the Icons playable in other game modes?

I don't do FUT.

Icons are what finally turned me off the series for good. I am not buying it anymore.

Last year I saved and saved and saved my coins to afford the cheapest Ruud icon, his 86 version. It wasn't even that good; 78 pace, 78 dribbling, 86 shooting. But Ruud was my favourite United player when I was young so I had to have him. I was actually excited about something in Fifa for the first time in years. He was 450k and when I had 430k they released an Icon SBC that drove up the prices of all the cheapest Icons. Ruud went from 450k to 700k. That moment killed Fifa in an instant for me. Grinding, grinding and grinding all for nought

Drown in piss, EA.

Same here, I first got fifa in 1996 and have been playing almost every year but not this year.
Whats the point playing if the game is so scripted?

Downloaded the beta this evening and played a few kick off matches. Feels like FIFA 19.5. Obviously it’s a beta and not the true reflection of the real game but it just feels so similar to FIFA 19. I’ll wait for the demo and think about whether it’s worth investing.

Not tried the Volta mode yet. Will probably give it a go tomorrow.

I'd buy this fifa. Looks like they are finally doing something even if it is little. Added fifa street which is a big bonus for me. Love that game. Did some things to career mode finally. FUT can feck off this year. I mostly play clubs but dunno if they changed anything about that. Also looks like they've invented the ability to tackle and get the ball back which is groundbreaking.

For those who have the Pro Clubs beta.... is it Fifa 19/20 gameplay? Last years pro club was like playing a completely different game from Fifa 16 or something. If it had felt the same as 19 I would have been happy. Clubs needed a lot of work so hopefully they have done that

And the base icon players can’t compete with team of the season players. I’m only in division 5 and 99% of teams are filled with these players. It’s literally impossible to keep pace with them. The AI does all the defending for them. It’s frustrating because I like to play a football game and I like the mode in essence but the number of special cards is ridiculous.

I've played PES the last few years and ended up playing FIFA 19 more this year. When you switch from one to the other and then try to switch back it exposes the flaws horribly.

I still prefer PES online though, if only it would work as well as Fifa. Fifa online though is just such a twat fest and is basically a bog standard arcade game.

No idea which one I'll get this year. Possibly PES at the moment but only because it's out sooner and I have the patience of Roy Keane.

Played the beta down my brother in laws ... definitely better than 19 and felt better than 18 too IMO. Haven’t tried PES yet but Fifa for all its faults definitely showing some signs of progress at least.

So here's my gripe with both this and PES. I don't like playing online much, so I'm interested in the single player and carer modes.

Every year, there are glitches in these modes which are obvious and very easy to fix, yet they get ignored in order to add in bullshit new features which no one actually wants.

For example, Fifa career mode, for no reason will constantly reschedule your games if you have a midweek game after. For example, it will move your league game with Everton from a free weekend, to a Thursday night between a game on Tuesday and another on Saturday. Just fix this. It is a pointless feature that serves no purpose but to irritate and make the game unrealistic. Just take it out. After about 10 years, it has not been taken out.

Instead, I can make my manager have nostril hairs, be non binary, etc. I can sit in a room with a player's agent agreeing a contract length. NOBODY cares about this. NOBODY buys Fifa to get excited about cutscenes where you discuss a player's contract. Feck off. I just want to play through a season as the team I support without stupid AI glitches fecking it up. It shouldn't be so hard.

PES...I start a career mode or "Master League"...by the start of the first season, Neymar is playing for Chelsea, City have replaced Aguero with Joshua King. For some reason there's a 17 year old John Terry at Bolton who looks exactly like 40 year old John Terry but is 3 times as good as he ever was. Why? Why is this not a stupid idea. This has been going on in every PES game since about 2008. Just fix it. I don't care if there's 15 new boots to choose from in the edit mode or if the goalkeeper waves the players up the pitch before he takes a goal kick now. No one does.

Why is it so hard to just correct thus stuff? It just shows to me how little effort really goes into improving these games. These are such easy fixes yet for literally 10 years in a row get ignored.

I’m the same, Fifa online is full of cnuts and the fact that you can’t just play a random person online is insane. You have to play the Seasons mode which means if you win a lot you end up in the top divisions which means you play Messi/Ronaldo every game. I just want to play a standard fun game online or play career mode.

Even if you go into the Fifa thread here or the subreddit it’s all people talking about packs and grinding monotonously for hours to get SBCs and shit like that. I can’t think of anything in gaming more soul destroying and yet so many do it. We are the minority here complaining about it cause everyone will still buy packs every year.

The PES demo is fun but I’m noticing some problems with it too. With Fifa it’s like any player can turn on a dime and play any pass no matter what direction you’re facing. In PES it’s basically the opposite. Players feel clunky and slow and I don’t feel much of a difference between Ronaldo and other players. Master league also sounds horrendous.

Ffs. We need a third football game competitor.

I don't think I ever make it to the upper leagues. I just get twats who pause the game for the maximum time every time I score, or who have bought a headset in the mistaken belief I want to hear them mutter incomprehensible shite. Then when you look at your messages roughly 99% of the people you play on Fifa feel the need to send you abuse afterwards. I don't know what this proves. The other 1% send you a "good match" or "well played" message, which is even more pointless. THe worst ones watch the replays when they score. You end up realising you've turned into one of these cnuts if you play it for too long. I don't understand ultimate team at all. My brother plays it. It makes him furious all the time. You can get the same effect by just watching the news every day.

PES takes some getting used to when you switch. It's clunky and clumsy compared to Fifa, but I usually find I feel more in control of what's going on. After a while you get used to it, but yeah it still has its faults. The shooting still feels like you're firing a missile. The CPU on PES 2019 felt the need to score every goal by lashing the ball in at 5000mph and sometimes all your players just deliberately stand where you can't pass to them. Plus they still all move around like robots from the 1990s. When you switch back to Fifa it's too far the other way and feels like all the players are just floating around the pitch.

You can set your matchmaking to play teams of similar quality in seasons. If you’re in division 1 and play as Huddersfield you’re not going to play Juventus or Barca. You’ll face another 3.5/4 star team.

There’s also single player games on FUT where you can see the opponents rating so if he’s got a team full of 90+ players you can back out.

What would be the point of playing a random person online? You’ll probably face somebody much better than you or far worse. At least with seasons you know it will be a fairly even game.

I've been Leicester and played Barca before. It's not perfect.

Ultimate team can suck my anus.

The point of playing a random person online would mean it's not ranked in any way so there's less need to play cnutish. People in Div 1/2 (which is where I yo-yo between) want to win at any cost and will use all the exploits to do it. Fast wing-play and a powerful R1 cross and you've basically got an unstoppable tap-in. People passing between their defenders because a draw keeps them in their division. It's shite. At least if I played a random bloke we might actually have a fun game where there's no consequences to winning or losing.

If people want to play all these modes then fine, but give me the ability to play a random unranked match. It's not exactly a big ask.

This is a huge flaw, no idea why they removed unranked games a few years back. Everyone online on FIFA is pure and utter scum. Everyone just wants to use the OP players/teams and score goals using shitty flaws in the game. Huge reason why I stopped playing it.

All beta and demos are like that, it's when they bring in the patches that kill the gameplay.

Supposedly the match programming has been fixed this FIFA. It was one of the main things in their pitch notes. Career mode should run smoother now.

Yeah I don't know why on earth they think that would be interesting. I don't personally play career mode, but I might consider it if they made transfers much harder, there was a difference between playing Scunthorpe and Man Utd, and finally what you do on the pitch affects how you're team develops and how other teams play against you.

You know what I was just thinking. Alexis Sanchez is gonna have to be 81 rated or something on this years Fifa isn't he.

I’m guessing
Alexis - 82
De Gea 89
Wan-Bissaka 82
Maguire 84
Lindelöf 83
Shaw 81
McTominay 76
Pogba 88
Lingard - 81
Pereira - 79
Martial - 83/84
Rashford 83/84

They’re always reluctant to make big changes, they tend to make them gradually whenever a player is improving or deteriorating fast. Wan Bissaka for instance surely deserves higher than 82, but they won’t give it to him after just one season in the PL. Add to that there are only five right backs in FIFA 19 with a higher rating than 82 so their rating system is quite flawed.

You have a typo on Lingard. Surely you meant to hit a 6 and not an 8

Been playing the beta for a few days and it all feels very much the same as 19 minus the shit touches in Pro Clubs... I didn't like Volta either but I expect people will do.

I reckon we’ll end up with something like that ratings wise.
