Not only do we wait until the 81st minute before making a sub, but we wait until the 89th minute before subbing in Pereira and Greenwood. I’m lost for words. The fact that Mata, who I can’t remember ever making an impact off the bench, is given the chance ahead of Gomes and Chong is unbelievable.

That's the difference between top sides and second tier sides(like Utd).

Liverpool or city would have been 2 goals up at HT and won the game.

Our lack of quality upfront is alarming to say the least.
Nonsense. City draw against Wolves last year. This nonsense about this or that team would have battered Wolves at their ground is groundless nonsense.

Why didn't City batter them last year then?

Same old, same old when we concede. We haven’t really progressed as a team in that sense. If you can’t sort your heads out and reset against Wolves then you got no chance against the really good teams. Very disappointed with that, tbh.

I was looking for some progression and it just wasn’t there. Great first half, but it's a mentality thing. We can't can't rally when the going gets tough.
You clearly didn’t watch us last year against this lot then.

There was vast improvements and we should have won was it not for poor finishing. Goals are an issue for us. We don’t score enough which is why lingard should be replaced if he doesn’t step up.

We dominated most the possession and fashioned some great chances including a penalty. It would would have been different story if Pogba had scored it.

We also never gave up passing the ball even under pressure. We did it quite well considering it was a tough away match against an opponent known for counter attacking and pressing.

I let them sucker me in.

A decent side beat Wolves handsomely tonight.

Being undone by ‘the pace’ of Adams Traore is exactly who we are atm.
For reference, one of our best ever left backs in one of our best ever teams used to regularly get done by Aaron Lennon.

Directness is hard to stop. If you're faster than someone, you're going to get past them more often than not. Antonio Valencia made a career out of it.

We could have done the same to them if Dan James was braver with the ball.

Didnt wake up after half time. We had absolutely no creativity going forward, apart from the goal and the pen, we didn't give their keeper anything to do.

They knew we were too pedestrian on the ball in the 1st half so if they pressed us fast we'd surrender it easily, we were very poor retaining possession going forward.

However, it's a point gained from last season. Let's see how we react vs Southampton at the weekend.

First half: Solid. Composed. For the majority, in control. They’re a difficult team to breakdown but we could have had 2.

Wolves looked to take us on the break, they managed a couple of times but our defence were up to it.

My main issue was Lingard. Despite being given the number 10 position, he insisted on drifting right leaving nothing in the middle.

Second half: Completely different story. We looked panicky. Wolves played some nice stuff, string a few one touch passes together and you slice through our midfield.

Lindelof and Shaw made multiple dodgy passes under no pressure that immediately lost possession. The composure was gone.

Wolves pressed us higher up the field and we crumbled. Maguire was very good. Without him it could have been worse.

The goal was an excellent strike and a worldie. Had we not panicked, we would never have given them that run of play resulting in the corner.

The penalty incident is the main thing that irks me. Why. Why on Earth take Rashford off penalties? There’s no reason. He scored last week. He scored at PSG. If this is Paul asserting his dominance to take it to show to Madrid that he’s the man, then we’ll done Paul, you’ve made a right royal arse of it. Selfish twat.

The substitutes are bizarre. Why on Earth are they so late? Give Greenwood 5 minutes to make an impact? Ridiculous.

James should have been off much earlier. We were playing with fire with his yellow card, we were lucky but he didn’t do anything. He had the opportunity to feed someone in, he didn’t take it. Poor decision.

Mata was brought on for Lingard who’d been ineffectual for the past 40 minutes. Mata then proceeded to hit a corner into the first man. How much are these guys paid? Unbelievable.

Take homes from this match:

-Wolves are a good side. A draw away at them is not the worst thing ever.
-Corners remain an everlasting issue for god only knows why.
-Pogba is selfish.
-Lingard should not start the next game.
-Our decision making was terrible 2nd half
-Subs need to be made at least 15 minutes earlier

Mentioned it in another thread, but didn't Rashford say last week that there isn't a designated penalty taker?

Fair result for me. Wolves played a lot better in the second half. We were decent throughout.

Knew Neves was going to score as soon as he received the ball

Pogba dived but can't begrudge the pen much, hit it hard and true.

We need to learn how to take corners or Maguire will never score.
He didn't dive

Neville tearing into the indecisiveness behind the penalty taking decision
Yeah this casual "who fancies it" nonsense has to stop.
Rashford scored last week, take the next one - simple.

You need to pick who takes it, not decide on a whim at the time.

Mctominay was hiding in the second half. It really was a one man midfield with only Pogba showing himself for the ball.
Wan bissaka needs to be better in possession.

We were unlucky not to win. The Neves goal could not have been better struck even if the spawn of Messi and Ronaldo had struck it.

One obvious takeaway from this game is to assign Rashford pk duty unless he's off the pitch or hobbled. Overall, this is about what we expected against a difficult opponent in Wolves.

Mixing topics I suppose but this is the kind of opponent Sanchez could be helpful in coming off the bench, at least if he is anywhere close to his old form of bulldozing through defenders in tight spaces.

2nd game of the season after an extensive break - 7-8 days to rest. The players looked gassed in the last 30 mins. With that short bench if we keep the intensity those players will be ran to the ground after a month.

You were seemingly being critical of United at the back when we were very comfortable which I didn't get.
How is almost conceding 2 goals very comfortable? Very comfortable is when you don't concede and havent been lucky for that to be the case.

On similar performances most other top 5 teams win this game. And that's precisely where we are...outside the top 5.

We did fold a bit under little concerted pressure from wolves start of sec half, which is due to lack of experience and leadership.

But most concerning is the passing ability, and I don't mean risky defence splitting passing, it's the short 5 yard into feet passing that we really struggle with.

As for the penalty...I have come to the realisation that we are awful at them irrespective of player (tho surely Ole needs to step in here) and will not progress beyond a 60% conversion rate.

Watch it again. Clearly clipped.

You're right on the corners. But then when Shaw is taking them, it shows how we're truly lacking a set piece guy.
Perreira might be the best we have, but he''ll barely be on the pitch!

Mata could barely get the strength to loft one above a metre late on!

Average performance overall. Our midfield is going to cost us this season. Pogba Lingard and McTominay doesn’t look right to me. Our attack and defence look to be building a good understanding which is good. Wolves were garbage, probably the worse I’ve ever seen them play.

Disappointed. Would have taken a point before the game though. We have to remember that we are not title contenders, we are going for a top 4 place. Getting a point at one of our rivals for that spot (crazy but true) is not a terrible result.

They got a worldie to equalise. We missed a penalty, and had a few really good chances (Martial at half time, and Jesse should have controlled that pass from AWB).

Their sub to bring on Traore was the biggest change. We suddenly lost our ability to have Shaw overlap on the left as we couldnt leave Traore that whole side for counters, which in the first half was massive in helping us pin them back in their own half

Mata being our first choice sub to change the game is a sad indictment on the quality of the squad.

He's totally finished at this level.

Also I don't want to hear anything about McTomminay level. He's just not at the level needed at United, not even a stable option at time.

Also Lingard was just tragic today
Lingard has been tragic since last season but somehow still makes the starting 11 every week :houllier:

Carragher talking absolutely perfect sense. It’s all about the manager who needs to take decisions to get the most out of the team. We need complete attention to detail.

Neville just stirring.

Those other top teams you guys are going on about also have had tough times against Wolves. For God sakes City drew against them away in the league last season.

Ole and his management

1. James is not a starter, not yet. He is a sub you want to come on 80th min and harass the opposition.
2. No designated penalty taker in club like Man Utd. "we are man united" isn't that Ole says all the time? This is shitty shitty situation. We can lose points/matches because of this. Heck I don't even see a designated free kick taker in our team. What the heck is going on?
3. It looks like no shooting practice or at least not enough shooting practice from outside of 18 yard box. There are no designated shooters who can take the chance and shoot. There were times during the match when wolves dropped back in the box and plenty of time for a shooter to take chance. Nothing.
4. Too late substituions. Utter pointless and useless
5. Trust on Mata is baffling. What Mata's job? create a pass? press? creativity? pace? he sucks in all footballing aspects

on players.
1. Great goal by Martial but overall he is not our no. 9. His ball control is poor. He shows his talent sometimes but overall poor. Need to slowly groom greenwood in that role
2. AWB is absolutely wall. None can pass him. But he got tired at the end, understandably so
3. Pogba shows his class but man you are not a natural penalty taker. But it is not your fault. Your manager should be controlling this, not you and rashford deciding the fate of the club.
4. Maguire is excellent. Lindelof is learning
5. Shaw was bullied by Adama in second half. Not a good sign
6. DDG ok. Nothing he could do to stop the goal
7. Lingard is again useless. Poor ball control, poor reading of the game. Only good in pressing. He is a good sub when we are winning and trying not to lose. He can come handy. Otherwise hopeless
8. Rashford was okay on the left. Not sure if that is his natural position though
9. James should not start and definitely not play on the right.
10. McT was okay. But he lacks pace. This can be a hinderance in his progress.

Yep. People going on about City battering this Wolves yet they also drew against them away. They are tough to beat.
Think a lot would have been happy with a draw here, but the penalty miss has added a bit of disappointment with the result. They have to decide who takes the penalties.

I'm sorry but we were solid tonight. That's just nonsense. Wolves were toothless and got a point from what will be one of the goals of the season.

We have good options in Rashford and Martial, but after that, next to nothing.
We all think it's clever shifting Sanchez's wage, but we at least could have looked at holding him until January, otherwise it's a bunch of young wingers, or 17 year old Greenwood!

Yes let’s ignore the other 93 minutes and focus on making up some drama. They’re literally putting words in all of the players mouths making up what they could be saying. This is embarrassing coverage.

I'm gutted for this result. I knew we would eventually screw it up when Lingard started wasting those chances.
Once we start winning these kind of games, we'll surely turn a corner.
