Missing penalties - it's a United weakness we've had since Irwin left us.

With the likes of Pogba, Lukaku, Rooney and even Ruud van Nistelrooy hitting a low 60 % on their penalties. I understand the strikes wants (and needs) to take penalties to improve their stats, but back in the good old 90s, we didn't let the players agree on whom to shot today.
It was Eric the King until he went all kung-fu-fighting, then Irwin took over.

After Irwin, we had RvN a few years, before CR7 took over. I don't remember CR7 as cold as Eric and Irwin, but he probably didn't miss too many for us. Rooney on the other hand. Oh lord. Penalties were like a coin drop. And now we have Pobga with almost similar stats.

I don't care who we put forward as long as we score. Ole really need to let Rashford and Martial take those penalties. As far as I can remember, even Lingard scored a penalty last season.

On the other hand - I can't remember the last time DDG saved a penalty for us. He's probably done it a few times, but I do feel penalty against us is more like a 90 % chance.

I remember Ruud being an excellent penalty taker. He missed the high profile one against Arsenal, but struggling to think of many others he missed.

Ronaldo was good at them too, but I had no faith in him in the pressure moments. Obviously missed in the CL final shootout and I think against Barca too in the semi?

Just pick 3 and alternate whenever the next taker misses it.

Every time Rashford takes a penalty I’m confident, every time pogba takes one I’m 50/50. Turns out the actual percentage is he misses 36% of penalties, he has no business taking any more for man united.

It’s Rashford. If he can score against PSG in those circumstances, he can score anywhere.

Assert dominance, choose a taker, if anyone throws their toys out the pram (Paul), then tough shit. You weren’t good enough.

Apparently he doesn't and not the job of the manager.

They can use a coin toss next.

Ole needs to pick and should have already done so but the outrage over this just because it involves Pogba is pathetic uncomfortable. Raheem Sterling vibes.

By logic, a striker should take penalties because they should in theory be the best at finishing. Rashford or Martial for me.

Ronaldo missed some crucial penalties for us as well actually. Including one at Camp Nou in the semi final of the CL. Not to mention the misser in the penalty shout out against Chelsea in the final.. There were others as well I think.

It is not because of Pogba, Rashford is the best for them. I would also take Martial over Pogba. Pogba is just too hit and miss and it cost us 2 more possible points today.

I probably just remember that against Arsenal in the 90th minute and the miss home against Chelsea at the end of the season. Chelsea came 2nd, we came 3rd, and the draw against Chelsea made us 4 points behind before the last round.

Needs to be Rashford.
He is close to perfecting those powerful shots to the top corner, those penalties are impossible to save when taken correctly.

Has to be Marcus.

Easy decision here: Rashford should be assigned to the job absent a good reason, such as not being on the pitch.

That said, Pogba really needs to raise his game on pk's. After today's game he is, at least allegedly, 7 for the last 11 -- which is not impressive at all.

Some sense at last.

There were two takers, Paul and rashford.

Pogba missed but he has scored a lot for us last season too. I back him to come good. These things happen.
Scored a lot? They just said he had 3 misses on 8 penalties last season. That's way too low to be the main penalty taker in my mind.

We had Rooney on penalty duties for years and he was alright at them. He scored most of them but it wasnt always a sure thing. Atleast i never felt totally safe with Rooney taking a penalty. The moment RvP joined RvP took the penalties because he was better at them.

Pogba is the same. He isnt that bad at them and this penalty wasnt even horrible but it isnt a sure thing with Pogba. Rashford is good at them so he should be taking them.

Pogba can take free kicks though.. Rashford his freekicks are worse than Pogba his penalties.

Put Rashford on pens.

But then take Rashford's FK duties(the closer ones at least) and give them to Pogba.

Problem solved.

When you've got some like Rashford, who has never missed a pen in his professional career, why let some who misses more than 1 in 3 take them?

It's not the biggest deal in the world but does not se to make any sense.

Agree with this. Rashford penalties, Pogba free kicks.

How can people say Pogba "is probably OK on penalties"? Of all players in premier leagues history with more than 10 penalties, I'm sure you'll see him and Rooney at the very bottom on the success rate.

The draw is on Ole. Rashford should always take penalties. The one he scored in the first game was well taken and he has a history of taking penalties with great power and accuracy. Bad management there. This is not fifa 20 pro club where whoever get fouled in the box takes it.

Heck grab DeGea, Romero and Grant. 5 penalties against each whoever wins is the penalty taker. I’m quite surprised that Martial isn’t the penalty taker as he’s cold blooded when he takes a penalty. However just pick one and that’s it. I’d imagine the winner would be Rashford or Martial because Pogba is actually pretty rubbish at penalties.

Solskjaer is a coward who is afraid to step up to a big personality like Pogba. If he had any balls he would give Rashford penalty duty.

Has Rashford even missed one yet?

Rashford, obviously.

It certainly shouldn't be Pogba. I'd happily see the likes of Martial or even Mata take penalties ahead of him too as he really isn't all that good at them.

I wouldn’t say it’s been an issue since Irwin. Ruud was brilliant, Ronaldo was great. Rooney was shaky, but he could take a decent one. I don’t like this revolving door policy we’ve got though, and I think Rashford should be the designated taker.

This is down to Ole he needs to make a bloody decision and pick a pen taker. That has cost us a massive 3 points and for me it's unacceptable . Pogba is one of the last on the pitch who should be hitting a pen his record is shocking . So frustrating tonight

ABU thread. Blatantly anti-Pogba.
It's not anti-Pogba on anything else than taking him of penalty-duties. If we were allowed to change keeper for penalties against us, I'd say we take DDG off penalty-duties as well.

I don't want Shaw to take our direct free-kicks either, but that's not an issue now. Penalties should be a goal at least 4/5 times. Penalties against us is pretty much a 9/10 at the moment.
