Good defensive job, but going forward he did nothing significant. Though still a kid, so I won't take it harsh on him.

People will claim he worked hard and is good at pressing. The same sentiment will be echoed for Lingard. The problem is, you can't have two out of your four attackers be "water carriers."

Have I missed something here, he was our best attacker all match.

Rashford did feck all, lingard is just pathetic at everything and martial was quiet apart from his goal.

So stupid people are writing him off with one match ffs.

People writing off a 21 year old after one game, away, in the PL.. Gotta love this place.

Shouldn't have started tonight mind, he's only had a few weeks even training at this level.

This. We seriously lack creativity and technical ability with that frontline. Greenwood and Gomes should get much more chances already.

I think James looks much more comfortable on the left, would try him there at some point.

Just surprised that the most clueless whinge bag is yet again being overly critical.

Stunned.
Overly critical

I was specific orientated his strengths and his weaknesses. "Time will tell if he's a starter or squad player". Is this not the case with any unproven prospect ? If you can predict the euros then surely your can predict the trajectory of how young players develop it's not hard.

I can't help if you cannot comprehend basic english. More importantly, if your proud of James performances let your opinion known so they become debatable :p

Agree with you guys. Certainly not bad like some people seem to be making out.

Great experience for him, and hope he gets the chance to expand on it at the weekend in a game we'll have most of the attack in (hopefully!)
Nah, come on he was really poor.

That's fine; everyone has a bad game and he's a 21 year old making a huge (perhaps too huge to do in one go) step up, he'll have plenty of time to prove his ability but calling him poor today is just calling a spade a spade.

I thought he was decent. He lacks decision making and decisiveness though. He had some good runs and situations, where he could have done more.

Has a lot of work to do if he's even to end up as a squad player. Needs to find a niche badly.

Maybe a lack of experience and quality showed at times tonight but there were also moments where he did a couple of nice things. So far mostly impressed with his work rate and the speed at getting to people but would like to see more quality with the ball and his decision making as the season goes on.

Unlucky to get booked for diving. You can clearly see as he goes across Moutino is it that he catches a trailing leg forcing him to lose his stride.

I thought he looked nervous at times getting constantly fouled didn't help either . I felt he stayed static at time on the touchline outside, having said all that i am sure he will have a better outing next time.

He should come on as a super sub, not good enough to be starting. Thought he was terrible in the first half but improved in the second. Terrible decision making sometimes.

Quite enough in the first half though.

Seemed a bit nervous to me, understandably. Rarely used his pace in attack, saw more of it when he needed to track back. When he did get into decent positions it just felt like he was snatching at crosses and hitting them as hard as he could, rather than get a head up and use his pace to give himself some space and put a decent cross in.

Give him time to settle and gain some composure and he'll be a valuable asset

His work rate was fantastic, referee gave him nothing and let him get get slaughtered every time, I think attacking wise this one is on the manager he was never going to get any space in behind wolves are too well organised. Shame were useless at corners because he won a fair few for us tonight.

Yeah he’s so raw. The right side isn’t easy on the eye considering AWB isn’t the most attacking either, but it is more solid than last year.

He wouldn’t be starting for most Premier league clubs I’d imagine.

Great that we replaced Valencia in the 'kick the ball into the left back's shins and win a corner' sense.

If only we could have signed a player who can actually take corners we might have got somewhere.

he is a really basic player but his pace makes him extremely useful. I dont mind sticking with him for now under the one condition he is never on at the same time as lingard. They both lack quality and will bring down the team if played together. Still he needs a lot of work on his dribbling and technique.

This. Realistically they shouldn't be playing in the same team.

I thought he did will he put them on the back-foot and pressed non stop. His crossing final ball needs work which we all knew, but even now his crossing is wing corners and with our personnel we should be much more threatening from them, having Luke Shaw taking them is utterly bizarre.

He's rapid and he tries hard. He is 90 minutes in to his top level career, i think he deserves a little more time. Traore showed how effective a kick and run player can be and i'd say James has a bit more ability in him than just that.

Posters here would have lost their minds if they'd been around for Ronaldo's debut, with all his tricks and step overs and the times he lost the ball.

Some even convinced themselves that he could bench Martial. Ole got too excited from last week and started him. He should be our option from the bench not a starter. His speed would be useful that way. Sort of like how Adama just demonstrated

He got a lot of fouls tonight. That's a nice quality.

I don't think he's good enough to start though(or at least as of this moment) and he's put in a tough situation overall.

Take off your rose-tinted glasses.

He really didn't have a good game bar the odd run here and there. The most notable thing he did was get booked for diving.

Got better as game went on. Worked extremely hard, made a lot of good runs, beat his marker several times, but there wasn’t really an end product. It will be worked on in training surely so should be given time. Still think impact sub is more suited to him at this point.

Until now, I saw nothing to suggest that he is United quality.

It's still early days and he is very young, so hopefully he will prove me wrong.

Every once in a while I come across a post that genuinely makes me question if the poster and I watched the same game. This is one of them.

No offense but were you replaying one of the preseason games instead of today's match ? We were playing Wolves btw.

Runs up and down the wing, but we dont really see him using his pace to get in behind and has a bit of a lack of composure and quality on his final pass/shot

Both of those aspects will improve when he gets to know his teammates better. There was one instance during over time where he timed his run perfectly but the pass was stopped by their LB. A perfectly timed run from James and a releasing pass will be recipe for success soon enough.

I think he needs to learn a few tricks. There’s not always space in behind to kick and run. Way too early to judge whether he’ll make it.

Thought he was promising when on the ball but struggled to get into the game enough. I think this season will be a learning curve for him but he has clear potential. Had one lovely flick in the second half to beat his man but his end product isn’t quite there yet. People should also remember that he’s played more on the left wing than the right so he’s still learning to play this role.

Feel he needs a slower introduction to the league, don't want him to lose confidence.

Should not be fecking starting vs wolves away.
Yes it felt a little like wishful thinking. He is currently a great bench option for 20-30 minutes who can change a game against a tiring team though.
