Ranting and raving about Pogba's "treachery" in taking the penalty instead of Rashford and not scoring.
I can’t stand this arrogant idiot. Pogba missed a penalty that he himself won brilliantly. Shit happens we move on.

You are honestly apportioning some of the blame at Gary Neville's feet for this ? The entire Class of '92 are living rent free in your head mate. Give it a rest
Well his criticism was way OTT and it provided fuel to haters and top reds who think that these people know what's best for the club. Many other posters had said the exact thing I've said. So why are you singling me out?

Considering how difficult it is for the club to replace talent with quality we'll better start treating the few quality players we still have with the respect they deserve. Pogba can easily feck off to Real or Juve. However who will replace him as our main assist man? Lingard?

Neville created an atmosphere by talking as if Pogba committed a crime. He won't be the last person who misses a penalty in life. Give the goalkeeper some credit having guessed the right way and made a good save. Football is about small margins.

Relax, Gary! Racists do one!
Agreed, Gary completely blew this out of proportion and unfairly blamed Pogba. Pogba did everything right he could from his critics - he binned the dodgy run up, took responsibility at a key juncture int he game, it was just a good save. At least Sutton on 5 live blamed Ole for not making the decision himself. Can't believe people on social media have resorted to racism on something so trivial.

Takes a rather idiotic outlook to attribute any blame to a pundit criticising a player for randoms online racially abusing someone.

But you didn't like his criticism so i guess it's okay
Words have consequences on the illiterate, buddy. Criticise as much as like, but its the way he talked and then backtracked when facts stated to emerge.

The rolleyes emoji is always a good telltale sign that there's no point trying to talk sensibly with someone so thanks for clearing that up from the beginning.
You going to blame Neville for Tammy Abraham getting racially abused then? Seems to me that it's a problem that exists independently of what Gary Neville says.

Having seen some of the responses to United's own twitter posts - whether about individual players, match reports, supportive messages on things like the rainbow laces campaign or even just a simple message about ticket sales for the women's team - I'm not surprised to hear this.

Hopefully the club do follow up on this and identify some of the abusers. Racial abuse is vile wherever it comes from, but when it may come from your club's own fans it's got an extra layer of ugliness.
The worrying thing with United is they encourage social media. These people should be named and shamed, but United would hate to lose some followers. Does Aguero get this nonsense each time he misses a penalty? Messi misses penalties, Ronaldo has been known to miss them. It happens.

Who said he's contributing to racist abuse? Perhaps learning to read would be a good place to start.
You did but perhaps you don't understand that if something doesn't help then there's a contributing factor to the event it doesn't help with.

You made a stupid point and seem to not want to backup your point but instead give smarmy responses. Whatever floats your boat.

I was giving out to mates about Pogba taking that penalty, after listening to Neville ranting I actually changed my opinion. He missed a pen Gary it’s not the end of the world. The racist comments are disgusting though.

Disgusting and vile abuse thats not welcome at our club. It's not like Pogba was terrible for us yesterday either (not that it gives any case for racism. Just bizzare how easily a black player is targeted for missing a pen) . Sadly all clubs have some idiot "fans".

Hilarious that posters are angry at Neville. Racists don't need much of a push to be dickheads on twitter.

We should be looking to tackle the problem rather than blaming pundits who aren't even racist in the first place. Maguire have a good suggestion to be fair.

Well after how the fans turned on Pogba at the last game of the season last season and now this I think it’s 100% certain he’ll go next summer and to be honest after the racial abuse I don’t blame him one single bit, it’s one thing to criticise a player over performances but NEVER ok over their race or ethnic background.

That's actually a great idea from Maguire. However, social media companies will lose clients, so I don't have much hope unless there is legislation approved.
I'd assume legislation like this wouldn't be far away.

It's fair to say he may have incited criticism of Pogba. It's not remotely okay to say he in anyway is linked to the racism just because some fans decide to make their criticism or anger at Pogba racial.

Actually not a bad idea
Wonder how practical it is. Don't they have data confidentiality thing? I mean it's hard for people to trust some social media with their IDs.

Something should be done though.

The difference is Ronaldo or Messi or Aguero does not have ex-manager or ex-player vilifying him for every thing he does inside or outside the pitch. I still cannot believe what Neville said, he just went straight attacking Pogba personally instead of criticizing the penalty shot itself. The hatred for Pogba really starting to increase after Mourinho's meltdown last season, and like it or not, Neville seems happy fueling the fire.

Please stop holding Gary Neville responsible for absolute scumbags racially abusing Pogba on twitter. It's ludicrous.

As a black man, I have to say that the racism in football is becoming really exhausting. I thought that the majority of united fans were above it, but ever since the situation with the Lukaku song it’s becoming more and more evident that even our own fan base is full of bigots. So much of the abuse handed out to the likes of Pogba, Martial, Rashford, Lingard etc has clear racial undertones and it’s upsetting to see. Football has always served as an escape from the pressures of everyday life but it’s becoming toxic to the point where I really want to distance myself from the sport as a whole, which is something I never thought I’d feel.

It's funny because last night a poster said he was getting sterling vibes of the amount of hate Pogba was getting.

Fact is, people are scum. No point blaming Neville, these lot still would have said what they said regardless.

Isn't racism a crime? So if social media does not give their names up, aren't they aiding and abetting an offender?
They tend to hide behind false accounts. Banning them is practically worthless as the offenders will create a new account in response. So the cycle of idiocy continues.

1. racists can do one-they are a disgrace
2. Two good posts here, listened to Neville last night and couldn’t understand the drama myself. Did everything you’d want him to have done and the keeper guessed the right way as well as getting a strong hand to it-crap happens

Think a lot of racists have hidden themselves, but various things have made them think they can now say what the hell they like and they are now crawling out of the woodwork. Disgusting people. It is a big worry.

This is why putting in a drivers licence number or something similar is important though.

Also, don't blame Neville for this shit. It's easy to criticise someone without being a racist.

This shit means they are racists. You're racist or you aren't. The only degrees are how much of a cnut you are about acting on it.
Very true.

Flaming heck. These scumbags really need to get a life. They might find the majority of the human race are great people, no matter what colour or religion they are.

And he would get less racists abuse in Spain or Italy would he?

The point wasn't stupid at all but you're insisting on making into something else and getting your knickers in a twist.

Neville's ranting and raving like a lunatic will have contributed to the idiots feeling emboldened in attacking Pogba on social media. He hasn't made them racist, but he's absolutely not helped with an environment where people think it's ok to abuse others online.

Spain is 30 years behind the UK in terms of racially equality, tolerance and attitude towards racism.

If/ when he goes to Madrid, he will get racially abused from somewhere, guaranteed. If he plays well, it will be opposing fans. If he plays badly, it'll be his own.

This is more likely to happen in the ground rather than social media in Spain, so let's not lose sight of reality here.

Nonsense, people don't become racist scum just because a pundit criticises a penalty.
People don’t ‘become’ racist scum because of anything Trump says either. They feel a safe environment to express their views, created by the said ‘dog whistler’.

Exactly, he was playing well and fancied himself to score after skillfully winning the pen out of nothing. I'd rather Rashford was on pens but that's Ole's decision and from what he's said in PC we don't have an exclusive penalty taker so Pogba has done nothing wrong.

Neville absolute has a part to play, his criticism of Pogba was extremely over the top and aggressive. Sky stoke this fire for views and publicity, for me they are also culpable.

People saying Gary Neville's comments doesn't help. This should not matter.

It is disgusting behavior by these "fans". No doubt if/when Pogba leaves they will be slating him for leaving at the same time pushing him out with their comments.

Don't give up bro. This is a very small minority and we shouldn't let them win.

Yeah, Neville's fault obviously, he's caused racism in the UK and Brexit is probably on him too.

Pundits should be forbidden from criticising people of colour/other nationalities/religious people/people of X sexual preference to fix the problem imo. Only good words or neutral outlooks. 'Paul has two legs and two hands'. 'Raheem played football today.' 'Mohamed kicks the ball.'. Full Michael Owen mode.

Of course it will, because United legend Gary Neville said it. Some of them hang on every word the Class of 92 say. Nicky Butt should tell him to give his head a wobble.

It's disgusting racist abuse and they should hang their head in shame. Block these from using social media.
