For me, Pogba is our most talented outlet and his performances have never stooped below a 7/10. There have been few players who have faced personal, verbal attacks both online and face to face with the supporters, who he stood listening to I might add, and hasn't come out and publicly slated anyone. This potential talisman of Utd never airs his emotions yet there is always someone out there willing to stick the boot in.

He is professional, doesn't blame anyone else, doesn't shirk responsibility, gives his all in his gameplay, supports the boys, the manager and the fans. In my eyes, this is a professional who kids can still look up to and want to play like, yet he gets hammered day in, day out. He is our most productive player, most talented player and never gives in.

His passing range is unsurpassed, his tackling can be suspect but he never backs out. He shields the ball stronger and more effectively than most players, he defends and attacks, is willing to assume responsibility for pen's even though he'd missed 3/11, and takes all that flak with his head held high. He carries on driving the team forward and shows that, whether he wants to leave or not, he is totally professional and willing to give 100% to our beloved team.

Sorry yes just checked 20 passes in final third and 3 completed, 52 in total and 34 completed 65% still not great (will edit original post)
ManUtd app have these stats. Pogba completed 10/15 passes in final third. That's a decent enough record.

Thank you for this. hopefully it shuts some fans who are constantly having a go at him.

Pogba is our most talented player. He is our best passer. Period. The reason Ole has him in the deeper role he can almost function as 2 roles in this team.

1. He can get the ball from the the defence when we build from the back and unleash Pogba, Martial, James.

2. When we are playing a high passing game and camped in the opponents half, he can play the No.10 role without being easily marked.

Do not underestimate the value of Pogba in this team.

Did you watch the game on Monday? I swear there are a growing number of people that just 'watch' football with stats (often cherry-picked to back their views).

I've watched Pobga pretty much every week for 3+ years and the notion that he's been some unqualified success and the fans who don't think so are idiots/don't understand football or whatever is bordering on cultish IMO. I don't blame hime for the penalty on Monday (although I don't think he's very good at them) but overall he was far from great (as he often is).

Talented, absolutely and can produce moments most other players don't but across 90 mins does nowhere near enough to be considered an elite player IMO - across 3 years it's been the same. If the 2 games this season are supposed evidence of him being this 'world class superstar' then I just don't see it. I don't hate him or anything, he's a good player and produces some great moments, I just think his contribution over a period of time has been underwhelming/disappointing, whilst you get his acolytes making out as if he's been absolutely brilliant.

Oh, please, have you ever watched him live over a full season? He looks half decent against mediocre teams, and vanishes against competitive teams.

A pure show pony this lad. Some of the comments on this forum are laughable. :D

Exactly, the amount of fans boys who just watch highlights and youtube to judge a player is scary; but that's the world we live in now.

The thing with quality is, you just can't take it for granted. I would have thought seeing some of our players, game after game, being unable to score or even play a decent through ball would make fans appreciate the players who can do those things to a very high level.

But alas.

I remember the days when we cried out for creativity in midfield. Now we have someone who, from midfield, creates at least two good chances per game; and we take it for granted.

All I'll say is, he definitely won't be easy to replace if he leaves, so enjoy his class moments and try to focus on his strengths rather than constantly criticize his weaknesses.

Yes, I did. Can you tell me what Pogba done wrong compared to other midfielders in the country?
Yes we don't understand football, but I am sure Ole does, why didn't he let Pogba go? He would walk into any football team in the world.
So I will take this season. Pogba - 2 assists v Chelsea.
V Wolves the run for the penalty was typical pogba, and then to have close control in the area to ball roll and win a penalty. He also has the ability to ping a ball 60 yards.

Please name me a better midfielder who can do everything Pogba can but as you say he only has moments? I will take a player who can produce 3/4 moments in a game than one who passes side ways.

You are forgetting for most of last season he was fighting with a manager. Post Jose, his stats have been brilliant. Also, not his fault the whole team went awol for the last month.

Why can you not back him for 6 months and see what he does.

It is people like you who will drive our best players out the club then wonder why we are finishing below 4th.

Without Pogba there is no top 4, If you don't realise that, I am afraid it is you who doesn't know football.

Yes we don't understand football, but I am sure Ole does, why didn't he let Pogba go? He would walk into any football team in the world.
This argument instantly falls apart when you look at who else Ole hasn't let go. Plus whenever people use the "they know more than us" line, you'd have to say that Mourinho knows more than Ole as he's been much more successful and experienced, so you'd claim every decision he made was right? It's irrelevant anyway, I'm not saying to sell Pogba, I just think he's not as good as (or at least doesn't produce anything like) people like you think.

Also you've midunderstood the "doesn't understand football line". It was that people who don't rate Pogba are accused of it, not an accusation at you.

So I will take this season. Pogba - 2 assists v Chelsea.

He has the ability to do lots of things - I don't dispute that. He just doesn't do enough and it all comes with the negatives he brings. I don't see how any could dispute that it's just 'moments' he brings...dominating across 90 mins I don't recall him doing in a single game. Even the City game, where it's probably the best he's been for us, he was absolutely terrible in the first half. At best, we get a great 45 mins. If he can do that, why can't he do it for the other half, when he has the same team mates, opposition etc?

Compare him with the best players in the league over the past few years and he comes nowhere near to their contribution, despite apparently being as talented and that he "would walk into any football team in the world."

You are forgetting for most of last season he was fighting with a manager. Post Jose, his stats have been brilliant. Also, not his fault the whole team went awol for the last month.
I haven't forgotten anything. Mourinho left in December - his form improved but was appalling at the end of the season...and what about the first 2 years with Mourinho - exactly the same pattern. How come when his "stats have been brilliant" it's all Pogba's brilliance but when he's rubbish it's "not his fault the whole team went awol for the last month" - he's part of the problem and just a lame excuse IMO.

Why can you not back him for 6 months and see what he does.
Because I've been watching him for 3 years, doing the same thing. These 2 games this year have done nothing to change my mind.

It is people like you who will drive our best players out the club then wonder why we are finishing below 4th.
If we don't finish 4th, I'll know why - at no point do I say Pogba is solely responsible, but he is a part of it. We finished outside the top 4 with Pogba, so it's not like he's a guarantee for it or again, that he isn't a part of a team that has underperformed/or is not good enough.

Without Pogba there is no top 4, If you don't realise that, I am afraid it is you who doesn't know football.
With Pogba there was no top 4. And again, you're acting as if I'm saying "get rid, he's rubbish". I just think he's a player with a lot of flaws, who isn't as good as people think he is. Talented and can produce great moments but doesn't do enough.

I take all your points and there was some mis understanding. I have been frustrated with Pogba over the years because of the following and most of them are points you have pointed out:

1. He is inconsistent
2. He showboats
3. He goes missing when we need him most
4. Performs in patches

However, there is no doubt in my mind that in the current squad he is the best midfielder. IF we are to have a good season, we need to all get off his back and support him. Which United player has performed well for the whole season?

Why doesn't Rashford get even half the Pogba treatment? amount of times he loses the ball, shoots from anywhere, and lacks vision? Because he is english?

If we replace Pogba we will need 2 signings to get the balance right, a CM and a CAM.

All I am saying is Pogba does deserve some of the negative criticism but the way fans have reacted to him missing a penalty as if it is his fault that we wont get champions league? Come on, everyone misses penalties, everyone mis places a pass, why are we overly critical on Pogba?

I think talk of dominating over 90 minutes and being consistent over 90 minutes is premature because we as a team don't do either. All midfielders who do dominate over 90 minutes, when you look at their teams, you see that they are dominating teams. And when they face better opponents, all of a sudden those same midfielders don't perform the expected 90 minute domination.

Until we're that level of team, I don't think we'll be able to expect that consistency from our best players, and IMO the only way to raise the level of our team is to raise it's floor, rather than get rid of it's ceiling. That's why I don't focus on the likes of Pogba, Martial, Rashford that much yet, simply because they're obviously trying their best given the lack of quality in guys like Young, Jones, Smalling, Lingard, Lukaku, Pereira, etc.

Thankfully, Ole is beginning to slowly raise our floor by phasing out some of the aforementioned, so hopefully we will soon be able to accurately judge how good our best players can be without having to accommodate poor players. Then if they're still not consistent enough or dominating enough, we can look to replace them.

I'm not a huge fan, but he certainly is a talented lad, and we still haven't seen the 'full Pogba' in my opinion. Yes, he seems to 'disappear' against some of the so called, bigger clubs, but very often those clubs, and others, actually close him, and the space he works in, down very quickly, thereby reducing his effectiveness. I think, if ZZ is still at Real next season, then Pogba will probably go in the summer, but we really need to bring in players that can create and be effective in the midfield, and if we had those players, we may see the 'full Pogba' in some games. I would certainly try for Madison in January, as I don't think that Pereira or McTominay will be top top players, but will be very useful squad members, I would love to be proved wrong, as I have time for both, and they will improve, but as far as Pogba is concerned, we need that extra bit of quality in the team to take the pressure, and our opponents off our most accomplished player.

but but but he doesn't keep it simple!

he dilly dallys on the ball far too long and loses it every time!

He never tracks runners or attempts a tackle !!:confused::confused: sack Ole sell Pogba the virus!
I'll carry him to Madrid myself, or something.

During the last game, the reasons behind his defensive failures were very evident. He has two big flaws that he needs to fix, he has the tendency to fix his eyes on the ball carrier and to often get attracted toward the ball. Which means that he will often ignore what is happening in his area and obviously miss opponents running behind him. He needs to be a lot more spatially disciplined because when he is in his zone he does his job fairly well, but too often he is recovering from a bad position.

In 2018 when Real Madrid met Bayern Munich, Dani Carvajal was out of the game, with Lucas Vasquez (a natural RW) being his replacement. Zidane tasked Modric with basically walking Vasquez through the game and, because of that, Modric couldn't actually dominate the midfield, as he was too busy babysitting Vasquez. Madrid got absolutely dominated in midfield, drew the match, and were lucky to go through that tie, but eventually they won it and Modric won the Balon d'Or.

Now, if a Balon d'Or winning midfielder can have problems in a negative team setup, with a converted winger playing fullback, how much more Paul Pogba? Especially given that, aside from that position, there was quality all over the pitch for Madrid in Bale, Ronaldo, Ramos, Casemiro, Varane, etc. World Class players. These are the players we are salivating over. Players who play in absolutely world-class teams and for world-class managers. Put them out of their comfort zone for a few matches and they struggle to reach their highest heights.

That's why for me, any criticism or comparison of our best needs to be with the context that as of right now we're not at that level, thus our best players are not in their comfort zone. So naturally, they will only show their top-end occasionally.

Ultimate case in point: Lionel Messi for Argentina.

People can't look passed that though. Put Pogba in this City team and he'd be absolutely dominant also. There's nothing David Silva can do that Pogba can't.

Being in a winning team breeds confidence and it's no wonder he look at his best when we went on a winning run as a team.

I said this is another thread recently but I really want to know where statmandave gets his data from nowadays. He used to use opta like basically everyone else but since he started working for mutv he has been tweeting data that is massively different from what opta shows and is always along the lines of 'this United player is the best in the league at this'.

Opta for instance has Pogba making 1 tackle and 1 interception so far this season. These aren't the only way a player can win possession but they are the most common. Wan-Bissaka for example has 15 tackles and 3 interceptions. I wish he would go back to citing sources for his stats and explaining where the numbers come from because I am finding a lot of his claims less credible since he started working for the club and it's a shame.

He uses Statszone and he is using it for years now, long before he started to make MUTV appearance.

There is only limited stats available for public, most of the stats are for premium users.

Edit: I remember you asking this in McTominay that, I replied saying he uses statszone.

Nice. Whoever doesnt adore him and criticize him is a dumb dumb who doesn't have his own opinion but is turned by the media. Come of it..
What's there to understand. He's still inconsistent.
Also why should he be adored, guy who was being offered to City after 18 months at United and has been with one leg out for a good while.
Sure people can adore him but not by everyone and people who don't shouldn't be generalized.
He's the most talented player at the club but this notion that he can't be criticized is silly.

He mentioned lot of dumb dumbs, didn't he?
There's definitely valid criticisms to be aimed at Pogba; but there's also people who parrot media soundbites. The latter would be who he's talking about.

De Bruyne is better than Pogba, you can't argue on that. Talking about stats, at least half of his goals were penalties last season. Losing Pogba wouldn't be a hit in our top 4 hopes if he was to be replaced by proper players.

I know that he has used Stats Zone in the past. That is why I said he used to use opta data. Because Stats Zone is simply a package for opta data like whoscored.com and numerous other sites and apps.

My issue is that before he started working for MUTV he used to post stats that sounded believable and if I checked them on other opta driven sites then the data there would support his claims. Since he has begun working for MUTV he has started posting amazing sounding claims like this is one about Pogba winning possession more than any other player in the league and if I check it then the data doesn't support his claims at all.

Something has clearly changed and I am curious as to what.

What I actually find quite disturbing is that there's United fans on here and elsewhere that have a genuine hatred for the guy. It just shows you how easy it is for the media to brainwash the gullible against one of your own players..

Should be absolutely adored by our fans but instead a lot of dumb dumbs have let themselves be turned by media agendas and pundits who don’t understand him.
What, I’ve watched legends play for this club who weren’t absolutely adored at times. You want everyone to adore a player who has himself said he wants a new challenge, let’s his brother and agent denigrate the club without ever issuing an apology, is likely to leave next summer and has achieved relatively nothing in comparison to these legends to be adored?

Yes, the media have played a blinder here.

The state of this thread after we beat Chelsea showed me for whatever reason the hate for Pogba is real and irrational.

George Best was a legend who beat the crap out of his Wife on more than one occasion and even told the press the Hospital was the best place for her.

Paul Scholes another legend who refused to play in a League Cup game under Fergie.

C Ronaldo within the first month of signing for the club declared his intention to leave for Spain one day. He constantly gave interviews to Portuguese and Spanish outlets in subsequent years declaring his love for Spain and Real Madrid on a regular basis.

Wayne Rooney twice threatened to leave the club, first to City and then to Chelsea due to the squad being shit. Moyes persuaded him to stay the second time around and helped him to a monster new contract in the process.

Paul Pogba has been playing in far worse teams than the above since he rejoined United. He also hasn't done anything close to what the above did as far as trying to engineer a move from the club or been unprofessional by refusing to play in a first team game. He also hasn't kicked the crap out of his Lady like George Best did to his Wife Alex on more than one occasion. You should just admit you just don't like the guy for whatever reason. No need to beat around the bush.
