He is. His lyrical ability is up there with the best and he changed the landscape. But I can't help but cringe listening to most of his music that I liked in my teens, something that has almost solely happened with the Eminem stuff, other hip-hop I liked back then is still dope to me. Didn't age well at all, and his last few efforts have been trash.
So Lil Nas X has broken the US chart record with 17 weeks at number one. Interestingly he's released lots of remixes of the track that all count as a single entity in the chart count. Such a strategy probably wouldn't work with a longer track I don't think. Came out as gay recently too, possibly the first openly gay high profile rapper?

I haven't listened much to any of the new cats on the UK scene but Hardy Caprio been around the office lately so I've been listening a bit and I like this One Acen guy, especially the way he just dances around.

Christ, haven’t checked out Dumbfoundead in awhile. One of the best battle rappers of his time, a comedic genius. I always thought his music was just a little off for me apart from a couple of songs. Will check out that one.

The new Little Brother album is easily a top 5 release of the year. Nostalgic as feck too, for those who've listened to The Minstrel Show and The Listening.
Yeah I’m enjoying it. Always partial to a bit of Thugger. I’ve added the best ones to my rap/hip-hop playlist and it actually becomes a nice concise album that way. A bit bloated otherwise.

Hijack and DJ supreme are legends of the uk scene. Their album "the horns of Jericho" is in my opinion one of the top 5 albums to ever come out of the uk scene.
Actually I've been having the same issue as you're having with this rap/reggaeton group my friend played to me back in mid nineties. Heavy drums, heavy flow, gangsta attitude but my friend the weed head has no memory of this. It was mind blowing music but I was a weed head too so I forgot as well.
Yeah, we were 100% NWA fans back then but then a friend of a friend played played Hijack and Paris at a party and we all were blown away.

Anyone caught Hip Hop Evolution season 3 yet?
Yep, watched the latest season during a few commutes - this is my favourite season so far because so much of it encompasses the era that I first learned about hip-hop.
Getting multiple perspectives of the 2pac/Biggie beef, and not just the biased perceptions from either side or speculation about the killers was refreshing too.
The origins of Jay-z, Mos Def, Eminem was great too because they represented some of my favourite early hip-hop albums & songs.
Dirty Souf timeline was probably my favourite though, just because I personally know less about that entire region so it was great hearing how it built itself up and created an identity for itself.
Interesting to see where it goes from here - surely the Ja Rule/50cent/Nelly/Lil Jon early 2000's era must feature in the next season.
Yeah I feel like we're gonna get a lot of No Limit/G Unit stuff, the blending of coasts and styles, Dre doing 2001 and dominating the charts. Then it'll probably move into talking about backpack rap and the revival of soul samples that eventually saw Kanye rise above G Unit, then the rise of arty experimental acts like Doom and Madvillain paving the way for your Danny Browns, and how mainstream acts started to incorporate those arty styles.
The new Ghostface Killah LP is pretty weak. I'm a huge fan, and I don't think he's done a bad solo record yet, but I couldn't get all the way through this in one listen. Super disappointing. I really liked the Czarface and Ghostface album from earlier in the year, but this is miles off. His voice sounds weird, the guest slots are mostly weak and the beats are pretty awful.

I thought it was cool. Sounded more like a collection of songs than a well crafted project, which he's done in the past of course. Beats for the most part are impeccable. Turnpike Ike (don't care for the lady in the middle reciting his wealth) is awesome.

I don't know about that. He has a unique discography, there are very few rappers with the ear he has for making so called "cinematic" music... Best rap discography though? Yeah I wouldn't go that far.
