Good. It doesn't make sense to pay him shit loads of money and then let him play for some other club. If we pay him more than 50% (rumors are it's close to 60-70%) then he will be our second highest paid player but won't be playing for us.

Would rather go with, pay full wages and make him part of the squad.

Lingard can run around and provide absolutely nothing off note in any position tbf. I am happy for Alex to go but let's not suggest Lingard as a replacement.
Whether you like it or not (I don't) Lingard will get plenty of minutes this season. I'm not suggesting him as a replacement since he's already part of the team. I'm suggesting that if Alexis goes the likes of Greenwood, Gomes and Chong will get more chances and that worst case scenario is Lingard has to fill in as a false 9. Like I said, it's not ideal, but it beats keeping Alexis.

Italian media, mainly Di Marzio and his team have had rough with United. This was a a sure thing a few days ago, medicals and Alexis definitely flying over. All that to United haven’t even agreed to anything yet.

Kept saying this wasn’t going to happen. We’ve had Darmian here for 2 years more than he should be. We aren’t letting Sanchez go for a deal that’s just stupid in structure. Comeback next year we I’ll accept your bid then you can find out how much the player really wants to play for you.

I’m mystified by some of the comments on here. The window is closed. If Sanchez leaves we can’t replace him. Why would anyone want a player to be unavailable for selection by the manager? If Ole thinks Sanchez can help, he selects him, if not, he doesn’t. What do we gain by removing that option?
If Ole doesn't plan on using him, what's the point in paying a player massive wages ?

It's only going to dampen down the dressing room atmosphere. So much better to sell him or loan him and get him off the books.

Inter are obviously smarter than we thought.
No, we are smarter than what they thought. Why would we pay over 350k a week to a player that will assist another team get CL football??

If UTD sanction this deal whilst paying his wages, it will be another example of UTD getting mugged off for the whole world to look and laugh.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time

We obviously will have to pay some of his wages. Equally obviously, we won't sanction the deal without Inter paying a good amount of them. There's not a chance in hell we pay over 350k (which I believe is his full wage before the appearance fee), so don't get worked up about that.

Are we sure Ole isn’t planning on using him? Sounded like he was hoping Alexis would get his form back in that press statement.

I would love for him to find his Arsenal form as he could be a wonderful compliment to Rashford, martial and Pogba. Perhaps ole can build his confidence and find a role for him.

Unfortunately over the last year he has been as useless as the g in lasagne and if Roma or anyone else wanted to pay a good % of his huge wage packet I would let him go!

Keep him, I have no interest in saving the club a few quid on wages, whilst leaving the squad even more exposed than it already is.

Legs are gone and a poor attitude to boot. If he stays he won’t get 5 goals and assists combined and we will pay him £20m+ for the privilege.

Exactly, why should we pay towards his wages to play for another team with champions league football?

If he's keen to move away to get more pitch time then he needs lower his wage demands

Keep him and play him instead of Lingard. Gomes doesn't seem likely to play and Sanchez can't be any worse than Lingard.

The evidence of the last 18 months is that he is significantly worse than Lingard. Truth be told his last 6 months at Arsenal were nothing special either so you are talking about a 30 year old player with multiple injury concerns who has not played like a top flight footballer in two years. If Inter are willing to pay 50 quid per week of his wages then for gods sake take the money. If you don't want to see Lingard in the number 10 role then we still have Mata, Gomez, Pereira and Pogba for starters who are all better than Sanchez at this point.

We could end up paying him £10 million + to do the same for Inter (or probably much better), plus get him back next season as well.

Worst case scenario he plays in EL just to keep the squad fresher for the premiership.

If the guy won't take a pay cut to facilitate the move then he deserves what he gets, but he could prove alot more useful than some give him credit for this season imo.

Grim. But yeah, true.

The chance of him "coming good" in any meaningful sense is slim to nil at this point.

Please show me this evidence. Pogba isn't going to be played as a number #10, Mata can do the job coming off the bench, not good enough to be a starter anymore. Pereira I don't rate and as I mentioned even though I think Gomes is better than the 3 of them, Ole seems to think otherwise. Sanchez may be a lost cause as well but it's worth giving him a shot centrally since he's lost the pace to play as a winger and he's very sound technically and a much better passer than Lingard.

Work rate has never been a problem with Sanchez.
Hasn’t our work rate for nearly all our players pre Ole been a problem? Bottom of the league in nearly every metric going in that department from what I recall of those depressing days.

If a double injury like that happened to Rashford and Martial at the same time last season, we'll be in huge trouble. Last year there was at least Lukaku. We need to keep Sanchez and play occasionally at least as an insurance policy.

Watch United games featuring Sanchez and then watch games featuring Lingard, if you think Sanchez is the better player, contributes more or works harder then there is really no helping you. Sanchez has been woeful for 2 whole seasons and it is not like he is getting any younger, it would be lovely to see him come good for United but it is about as likely as the team coming out of the tunnel against Palace tomorrow riding Unicorns.

Lingard got twice the amount of game time Sanchez did last season and contributed 2 more goals. So you tell me how exactly he's a bigger contributor. Sanchez has been shit, I'm not debating that, but if the options are Sanchez or Lingard I'd take Sanchez any day, he's easily the better player and it's not even close.

It is not simply about goals and stats though. Sanchez looked like a Sunday footballer when he played last year, might not have been Lingard's best season but he did so much more when he was on the pitch than Alexis. So far as the bolded part, it is not a binary decision between the two and in fact I would rather we use any one of Mata, Gomes and Pereira at 10 before playing Lingard. My main issue with this is that Sanchez is far and away our highest paid player and the argument to keep him is that we could play him at 10 when that is arguably our position of least need.

If he stays he won't get more than a few minutes here and there in the Europa so if Inter are willing to take on 100,000 or so of his contract then let him move. If he is as bad as he has been then what have we lost and if he plays well then he might even generate a market for his services next year and we can recoup a little more for him. Ole is going in another direction and Alexis hanging around the dressing room being miserable is just going to be a drag on the club moving forward.

A proper thread, no question. Alexis has earned the abuse he's taken here.

Our problem is that we can't find a club willing to take on his wages and it really doesn't make sense for us to keep paying 300+ a week to subsidize his total wages while playing for another club.

We've just sent Lukaku away and don't really have a lot of depth on the front line. Keep Sanchez for now and if in January there's a club willing to take on his wages move him on then...unless he's somehow returned to a high level of performance whenever we can get him on. And if it is the latter, we have ourselves some pretty decent depth that at least I'm a bit worried about right now.

Really it depends on whether or not he plays often for us, if he is barely playing then it makes total sense for us to loan him out, even for 50% wage coverage.

If he is not playing then its 100% wage coverage for us rather than 50% which would make no sense for us.

The real question is whether or not he is good enough to be a valuable member of the team currently...if not then I'd take 50% for sure.

I hate Lingard but as little as he contributes to the team, its still more than Sanchez. Sanchez looks so depressingly limited and washed up in possession it's crazy, you would never think you were watching a guy who was tearing defences to shreds for the Gunners a few seasons back. Lingard at least has tidy movement and inter-play. Sanchez is operating on his own level, he seems completely disconnected from the team and lacks the individual brilliance to make that 'work'.

"One potential stumbling block is if one of Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s forwards is injured before the move is completed."

So we this has to actually happen before we realise it might be a problem? Because it obviously will happen at some point, and it obviously will be a problem when it does.

Does anyone seriously think this isn't dumb after today?

He might have been shite for us so far but we are 3 games into the season and resorting to bringing on a 17 year old in situations where we desperately need a goal...and that's before Martial got injured, who is our only striker.

It’s dumb also because we paying most of his wages to feck off too. Just keep him here.

It's mad enough to me that people on here want to get rid of him inthe circumstances. The fact that the people managing the club are actually trying to fills me with great confidence that they have no fecking clue what they are doing.

It's going to do a lot of harm to Greenwood's development if instead of introducing him into games and situations as and when he is ready, he's continiously coming on with the pressure of needing to turn a game around. I mean if you had a 17 year old Ronaldo and Messi, you wouldn't be dumb enough to throw them in like that. You would rely on other players and have them as extra options.
