Nicky Bandini (formerly Paolo Bandini) came out recently as transgender. She wrote a really great piece in the Guardian about it last week(this link should include a video she posted to Twitter).

A wonderful journalist whose Serie A coverage in particular is really great. What I’ve seen on Twitter so far in terms of people’s responses has been very positive (as it should be!). Glad to see her happy.

The reaction under her article and on Twitter was very heartwarming.

Her coverage of Serie A over the years was very informative. She did a good job with the NFL also!

Don’t recall the name, but could well have read her coverage at some point.

But fair play to her and hope the reaction continues to be positive.

Aye, was pleasantly surprised at the warm reaction to her announcement on twitter.

Always enjoyed Bandini's Serie A coverage on the Guardian in the past. A likeable sportswriter that doesn't have an ego and doesn't enforce their agenda in their narrative.

This is pretty much exactly how I described her to a friend: at times there are a lot of egos on the guardian podcast but Bandini has never been one of them

Football Forum ? Seriously ?
Where else should I post about an esteemed journalist? We know about Bandini because of what she writes about football, not because she happens to be trans, so this seems the most appropriate forum!

Is this a former pro or just a journalist? If the latter, how is this newsworthy?

Who would you say are the egos?

The Raphael who used to cover the Bundesliga is definitely on that list
Honigstein! Yeah he’s one. Barney Ronay too. Glendenning can be awfully irritating and smug at times but he did wind up Barney so it’s not all bad.

This impacts none of our lives in any significant way.

If you find yourself having an extreme negative reaction to something like this, to the point where you feel compelled to express it, then, honestly, there's something wrong with you.

Nicky Bandini sounds like a generic mafia name. Only needs a nickname.

Anyway, good for her.

Would one’s particular (past) profession determine whether this is newsworthy? Surely notoriety of the individual is more determinative (ie it wouldn’t make the news if you or I came out no matter what we work as) and Bandini is a highly respected and well known journalist.

Ultimately though this is newsworthy because questions like yours still get asked. To quote from the article I posted:

I would much prefer not to be writing this and to exist in a world where my transition did not require any comment. But since we do not yet live in that world, here I am.

Good for her, always liked her coverage of Serie A, and her appearances on Football Weekly. Was also really pleased by how positive the reactions on twitter were - from other fans, other football journalists, and from some (mainly Arsenal) supporters groups.

Slightly blown away by this. Some of you will never understand how things like this feel to groups of people who have next to zero representation in our sport.
Transfer forum ?
Objectively good joke.

No idea who this person is, but I’m glad that someone around the game has been able to come out and seems to have been well received.
