Slightly exaggerated, but I don't think he'd be getting standing ovations after stealing the penalty and missing it in the midst of his Real love story.
Your suggestion that he'll probably be celebrated as a martyr is offensive. The inference is, it's his beliefs that have resulted in abuse. It isn't, it's the colour of his skin

Considering Ole has been talking up Greenwood’s abilities so far this season I’ll be very disappointed if he didn’t start. Palace has been one of the worst teams in the league so far so it is a perfect opportunity for him to get 60+ minutes. If he doesn’t start against relegation tier form, what other team would he start against? The lad deserves a chance.

Does the fact that he played against Sheffield behind closed doors midweek mean that Ole doesn’t intend on playing him?

Lampard despite his (unlucky) results thus far has featured Mount and Abraham in important games and they have both done reasonably well in my opinion. Greenwood and Gomes are better players.

If Ole isn’t gutsy enough to start at least one of them against Palace, I will be very discouraged about his selection policy for this season. Our new identity is supposed to be youth, courage, success. It is about time Ole started to show some courage in his selections.
Season is 2 games old and one cannot judge Ole or players so soon. Also, you have to understand the average age of our starting line up in the last 2 games have been somewhere around 24-25, and sometimes you cannot just have all young players starting so early in the season. Greenwood will get more chances, we have to be patient.

Maybe it's just this place but suddenly I feel very pessimistic.

    1-1. Zaha, Pogba (pen).

Being celebrated as one is not the same as being one. If it's less offensive to say he'd be celebrated as Martin Luther King, please read it as such.

Really looking forward to this match. For once it feels like an age for each game to come around.

I was disappointed not to win against Wolves. An away point is a good point, just with a mostly dominant performance, it leaves a slight bitter taste.
I'm positive though. We look like we're working harder which is great. Really hoping Martial keeps his work rate and form up as he could easily be the striker we need.
Defensively, we've looked solid, which is also an encouraging thing.

Midfield is my only worry. Without Pogba I just don't see any creativity. McTominay just goes for the safety first option every time and Lingard just isn't really up to standard.
It's clear that for next summer 2 midfielders and a RW is whats needed.

Back to this game though. I'd like to see Fred in this aggressive set up. Hopefully he cracks on this season like Lindelof did last. Would really like to see some of Gomes in this match also. Palace haven't looked good so far, so this is hopefully the time to give Gomes some minutes

After Pereira impressing Solskjaer with his attitude in the game behind closed doors, I can't see him left out. I also think that Ole respects Zaha enough to have DJ on the right to help AWB out(as if he needs it). Hopefully Gomes and Greenwood comes on at half-time if we haven't created enough chances, because he won't start them.

    Predicted lineup and subs:

    De Gea
    AWB Lindelöf Maguire Shaw
    McTominay Pogba
    James Pereira Rashford
    Martial

Subs: Romero, Tuanzebe, Dalot, Matic, Mata, Gomes, Greenwood

James and Lingard out. Greenwood and Gomes in. But you know we’ll get fecking Mata.

I feel that James’ pace would be a real asset off the bench against a tired Palace defence.

I do expect quite a similar game to the Wolves one in many aspects. Difference is of course, that Crystal Palace aren't as good as Wolves - both defensively and in the final third. We should have as much of it not more of the ball than we did against Wolves, create more chances and concede less opportunities on the break. End result should really be that we win this game by at least two goals and a clean sheet should be more likely than not. Football isn't played on paper though.

Try as he might, I don't think Daniel James worked as intended against Wolves. Wolves sat too deep like I expected and I won't be surprised to see Palace do the same (worked in some big away games last term notably Man City & Arsenal). Jesse Lingard is massively out of form, but it's probably either him, Mata or Andreas in that midfield/no.10. If Jesse is going to find some form this will be a big game for him to do it, but he'd be the only other change I'd make if any.

I hope we go with a bit of a 4213 format and incredibly attacking. We will concede a few chances on the break, but I'd think we can smash in a few goals. Give Greenwood a start:

    de Gea
    Wan-Bissaka Lindelof Maguire Shaw
    McTominay Pogba
    Mata
    Greenwood Martial Rashford
    ---
Romero; Young, Tuanzebe; Andreas, Matic, Lingard, James

Lingard has to be dropped. We need to try something different int he No. 10

Palace at home, why not try Gomes or Perreira in there, something different to no assist no goal lingard

I think we will see Juan Mata in the number 10 role. The link up play at Wolves was poor. They were well organised at the back, but we were too static. I think he will try to get Mata to keep the ball moving, threading passes into the channels. Also, for dead ball situations and free kicks. It was almost embarrassing that we had absolutely no advantage from corners and free kicks. Even with one of the best headers in the league waiting in the box. I hope to God they worked on it this week. Also, I think that Mata will tire in the second half, and it should be Angel that replaces him. Keep James on the right, him and AWB need to play more games together to get better.

He didn't steal the penalty, no more than Rashford stole the penalty last Sunday. Rashford asked him if he's taking it, and he said yes. There were no histrionics or arguments.

In fact, Rashford's pen had more debate between everyone than Pogba's.

    Penalty?

Rashford pretty much always goes high and to his left.

Martial is a better penalty taker.

I actually feel this way, too. Martial is a less predictable penalty taker from what I've seen - he seems comfortable shooting in either direction and is very composed in his approach. He'd be my choice but whatever.

I could see Pogba getting a good ovation, cheer his first few touches, something like that. He took a lot of undeserved abuse this week and I'm sure a lot of supporters would like to show they are behind him.

I still believe we need a three-man midfield, as we did in the game against Chelsea.

Some of these young pretenders that some of you are desperate to be thrown into the team have a habit of sinking. It takes a rare talent that can handle the pressure of boys playing against men.

Does anybody know in advance a river for this? All of my usual subreddits have been closed down. Don't want to be rushing about 10 mins before kick off. PM me. Thanks.

As with Ruud, it makes zero difference if you hit them as well as these pair.

Claiming Martial is better is beyond daft @Red Dreams looking at their records so far and the fact that Rashford has scored brilliant pens in massive high stakes moments for England in a shootout, nations league semi final (calmly slotted low and right), United last minute v PSG & in a big Premier League opener v Chelsea.

McTominay was really poor against Wolves but I hope he's not dropped for Matic. I'm basically expecting 10 of the team to be the same as the first two games, I'm just not sure about RW, it could be Dan James again, I'd love to see Greenwood start but I also wouldn't be surprised if Pereira got the nod, I just pray it's not Mata.

I might put Andreas in the no 10 role and James on the right. Lingard just isn't doing it for me and Mata's legs have gone, although he might be useful in these types of games as an additional creator.

If we are high up the pitch and have most of the ball, I don't think Mata's legs are an issue. If he doesn't play in a game like this, when does he play?
