When was the last time we scored a truly great goal?

Now I’m sure these goals come to mind for some of you reading that title:

Martial vs Cardiff - Good goal but City score that kind of goal every week

Pereira vs Southampton - Many better bangers scored than that. See Douglas Luiz the weekend just gone.

Mkhitaryan scorpion - Offside and Giroud did it better a week later.

I’m talking about a truly amazing goal that has people talking about it for the next week or two. From the top of my head it would be Van Persie vs Villa or the Rooney overhead kick. I feel like Evra’s didn’t last long enough in the context of the game for it to have a proper effect.

Ruud against Arsenal

Smalling with that Van Basten flavor.

The third goal against Chelsea was pretty sweet. That pass and finish was really good.

Good goal but it wasn’t anything spectacular in terms of overall great goals.

Mikhitaryan scorpion but again that was apparently outshone by Giroud

Tomorrow when Lindelof smashes a 25 yarder runs to the flag, pulls up his shirt to reveal:

If that was Silva to Aguero everyone would be creaming themselves.

Mkhitaryan scorpion kick was a class goal, we’ve scored loads of great goals.

Martial v Cardiff would be considered excellent even if City scored it. You're being a bit harsh there.

Di Maria v Leicester

Blind v Liverpool

Truly great goals, dont think we had one last season. Had very good ones, but nothing "wow" worthy really.
2014/15 - Mata bicycle kick vs Liverpool
16/17 - Mkhitaryan scorpion
16/17 - Pogba volley vs Swansea
16/17 - Rooney's 250th
17/18 - Lingard vs Watford? Young had a couple of great goals too

Rashfords had a few great strikes, but we haven't had a real screamer in a while for sure

Some others

The goal against (Cardiff/Brighton?) last year where Rashford ended that left backs career and then put the ball across the goalline for Pogba to tap in was an unbelievable goal.

They all count the same. Who cares how fancy it looks?
It’s just a question on a football discussion forum mate. Sorry we aren’t just talking about each goal as an individual number.

That was Bournemouth.

The OP is missing 2 goals by Rooney, the one against West Ham from the halfway line and there was another he scored in the game after Juanfield, against Villa, where he plucked the ball from above his head and volleyed it in on the half turn.

Martial's goal against Liverpool surely qualifies as a great goal, turning 2 defenders inside out before slotting it in.

Pogba scored a corker against Swansea in his first season, Rashford in the FA cup reply against West Ham in 2016. Lingard running from the halfway line against Leicester in the community shield and against Watford a couple of seasons ago.

There have been plenty of great goals.

I’m surprised nobody mentioned Van Persie volley vs Villa. What a pass from Rooney and what a finish from the Dutchman

Rooney’s halfway line goal v West Ham was quite something. Matic v Palace to complete our comeback was pretty spectacular too.

Martial v Stoke 2016 was even better than anything the 06-09 team did. Insane goal.

Basically the OP is saying that no goal we have ever scored is good because there is always a better goal out there.

Rooney’s 250th United goal to become top scorer was a brilliant goal. A special goal that put him in the history books for us.

For me that was a great goal and so meaningful, so I will go with that.

:nono: Filth.

As Villa currently playing, opportunity to remember this. Never gets old..... Better than the Bradford one imo.

Commentator lost for words for a second..

The thing that always gets me about this goal is Ronaldo's reaction. He can't believe that Scholes scored from that far out and his reaction with Tyler saying "How" makes it so much more perfect.

Good question. I've often wondered the same myself recently.

Off the top of my head Pogba vs Swansea, Rashford vs West ham.
