Are we on the verge of another great home-grown team?

Like Busby's Babes or Ferguson's Fledglings?

We already have Rashford, Lingard, McTominay and Pereira in the first team. With Greenwood, Tuanzebe, Fosu-Mensah, Garner, Chong, Gomes and maybe a couple of others that almost make a team.

Could this collection of players emulate the Babes of the Fledglings? Of course, we need a few additions from from outside the club (like Keane, Cantona etc), but could they be as good?

Rashford and McTommy seem to be be progressing nicely. Much is expected of Greenwood, Tuanzebe and Gomes but could they be as good as Scholes, Beckham and Giggs?

Is this present young generation missing some essential ingredients that might stop them from being as good as the home-grown greats of the past?

*Apologies if this subject has been covered already but I couldn't spot one.

Constantly at the STD clinic.
A lot of teams believe they are on the verge. Its really difficult for it to actually happen.

Perreira I think is not good enough. Chong I also have serious doubts about. The rest are too young and we had plenty of youngsters in the past as talented.

... except for Greenwood and Gomes who I think have a proper chance of making it.

I see these players really making it : rashford, greenwood, gomes and scott mctominay. The rest are too young or just not tested enough.

I'd say were often "on the verge". Not so long ago we could have had a team of Januzaj, Pogba, Morrison, Rashford as our front four.

Think the following will realistically still be here in 5 years (in varying roles):
  1. De Gea
  2. Wan Bissaka
  3. Dalot
  4. Shaw
  5. Maguire
  6. Lindelof
  7. Tuanzebe
  8. Jones
  9. McTominay
  10. Garner
  11. Gomes
  12. Greenwood
  13. Martial
  14. Rashford
  15. Lingard
  16. James
At a stretch, can say Laird and Henderson, depending on their ambitions. Is Laird ok with developing into just a 3/4th choice fullback depth option? Henderson as a backup to De Gea or will he want to move somewhere permanently to be a starter with us eyeing him up once De gea is gone? But can definitely see all these being here in varying roles as squad players or starters 5 years from now tbh. 7 of those 16 from Uniteds academy, another 2 maybes, another 5 random British players, and then you know our top transfer target will always be Jadon Sancho unless another prem team buys him.

We have a great chance. Lot of things need to break and fall into place, but yea, definitely a chance.

Rashford is the only one of that group who has proven he is good enough to even play in the premier league.

I know Lingard bashing is all the rage but I genuinely think he'd struggle to stand out in a team like Villa or Norwich.

Mctominay played well for a few games towards the end of last season. So far this season he has looked miles out of his depth.

The others have barely played a game yet between them.
