Started in season. 2013-14.

The non top 6 come to Old Trafford.

Park the bus. Shut us out or keep us to a goal. Then they get 2-3 chances and score.

I can see this trend continuing this season.

I thought we have the best defence already?

It's easy to defend against us and it's been easy to hurt us over the last 6 years.

I've still got hope that AWB and Slab will go a long way to sorting this defence out.

We can't fix this overnight but we need to get top 4 this season and let us look at the midfield and attack next summer. I'm not hopeful of either though, unfortunately.

Very worrying that today was the sort of stuff Smalling and Jones usually get slated for.
It starts from the midfield, if we have no midfield control it’s easy to expose the back line. We have a #10 playing as a DMF, while we have Lingard playing as a #10 - yet he can’t pass or move play to the forwards outside of legging it from deep to the centre circle. I like McTominay but he’s learning on the job. We’re going to see quite a few more games like this I’m afraid.

Same old story again tonight.

Two chance and they score twice so far.

I know we are crap but I bet Sean Dyche is surprised at how easy that was for them.

Nah. Palace had us boxed in for first 10 minutes. It’s only natural they sitting now, but not like we have a clue on what to do.

Oh feck off.

We're 45 minutes into a season where we've had one preseason game, and we're starting a week after everyone else, along with having several players not even match fit to play.

Let's give it at least a game before we write off our season.

To be fair it’s not like we’ve had two months off. Just like a short mid season break! The excuse doesn’t wash with me

Are Crystal Palace not in a similar position? How long do we leave it to get up to pace? A couple of months?

We are easy to play against. Every opposition can see the threat comes from inside. All they have to do is flood that area, let us have it in wide areas and wait for the counter.

They've played 4 preseason games and this is their 3rd competitive game. Explain to me how that's the same.

Nah, apparently we should give it 18 minutes.

Press high. Take your chance. Park the bus. Give us a hatful of chances to miss. Perfect formula for 3 OT points.

The secret against us that everyone knows is we start games badly and it takes us a while to get into them, so all you have to do is press us hard get some mistakes early on and rattle us, and if you have luck on your side, you'll score first.

United could have well actually planned a pre-season and have had the players ready to play. I was stunned to see how we approached bridging the gap between the two when the players had months off previously during lockdown.

We're not aggressive enough, we're not clever enough (that McTominay foul early on giving them a dangerous set piece a good example) and we've got some absolute liabilities (Lindelof).

But we're not coached to handle a high press it seems.

We couldn't get out our own half before the first goal.

Our sloppy start gave Palace the lead, from then on they have something to protect and can get at us on the counter.

I wasn't. We had an absolutely manic end of the season that involved more games than anyone else, along with our season ending weeks after some other teams. We didn't have the squad to rotate, so players needed rest.

It’s not the same, you’re right. We’ve had a month off since the Sevilla game though, plenty of time to play friendlies and get up to fitness. We chose not to do that, and it shows.

I think if we play more preseason games and our players don't get a proper rest then we'd be on our knees by the end of the season. Poor performance all round though.

They had 3 months off from March-June. Not sure why they all felt it appropriate to jet off on holiday. Am I being too harsh?

That's generally the formula v every top 6 team. It isn't rocket science. It's just that other top teams are good enough to break you down or deal with the counter threat.

Since 2013, on the whole, it's just so damn easy to play against us. Do you think Palace found today hard? Do you think they had to ride their luck? Did they work particularly hard? No. To all three.

Bruno seemed to have solved this problem when he joined, but now that his form has become crap, it's back to how it used to be.

I can't remember seeing us as vulnerable to the counter as we were today. It seemed like all they had to do was pass the ball into the forwards and they'd end up running on goal with a man over.

Also remember ranting mid game after one of their players had picked the ball up midway in his own half and despite us ending up with several men back that time, they still languidly worked a clear cut opening. I think it was when De Gea made the good save from Ayew.

As far as the spirit of this thread is concerned it was textbook by Palace.

I think there was more to Palace's victory than parking the bus. They were out playing us and took the lead. They're not likely to remain on the front foot after that.
I can see a problem developing with teams coming to Old Trafford but it's not as simple as teams coming and just parking the bus.
