Time-wasting: An excellent strategy?

Palace came in today, and wanted to ensure as little possible football is played. So they:
- Bring defenders back on each goal-kick, then have the keeper wave them forwards
- Bring a trainer on no less than 4 times, and only in one case did the player stay off the pitch for more than 10 seconds afterwards. All were fine to continue.
- Leave every throw in for a different player.

And what was the strong, principled referees response? 5 minutes added on. With 6 subs too. So maybe an incremental minute?

It's an excellent strategy for anti-football teams, and will continue to work because the referees are an absolute shambles at enforcing it.

Myself & many others have mentioned the answer to this, in having a clock that stops when play stops. It wouldn't matter if the likes of Palace played for hours as they would be no nearer finishing. This wouldn't really be true, as players would soon become wise that it was pointless to waste time, particularly if you starting docking clubs points for taking to long.

With a weak referee like that? Of course. I'd bet the ball was in play for like 50 minutes in this game.

It's. 2019 and football can't solve this issue. What absolute madness really. From the 55 to 70 minutes there was barely about 2 minutes of actual football

Time wasting in a cancer in portuguese football, hate to see it become more common on the PL. Refs need to start giving 10-12 mins injury time.

I hate it but as long as it's not punishable then I can't get mad at a team for employing those tactics when they want to secure a result. Let's face it we were loving it when we did it under Mourinho.

It makes me hate football, was at the game today and left 20 minutes before the end cause I just couldn’t deal with the frustration of it.

Stop the fecking clock, stick 13 minutes extra on and I promise you Palace stop doing it.

I've always maintained that the PL should start using more than 1 match ball to speed up the game. Especially at hostile away grounds where ball goes out to the crowd and it takes near forever to get it back, destroys counters or any flow of build up.

And with all that time wasting they still managed 2 goals from very few attacks!

Even this new rule of going off at the nearest touchline, it isn't enforced in anyway so players wi just go to the halfway line when they're subbed.
