Without resorting to insulting the players who've played so far this year, or just moaning, what team would you pick and what team do you think Ole will pick.

I would pick:
De Gea
Wan-Bissaka Tuanzebe Maguire Shaw
Garner Pogba
Greenwood Gomes Rashford
Martial

I think this team would, in a season or two, grow into a title challenging/winning side and the sooner we start playing it the better. I'd drop Lindeof given his vulnerability in the air and Tuanzebe should be given his chance in defence. Garner is far too good for U23 and given our other midfielders lack of form/quality I would start him, I think he'll take to it like a duck to water and surprise everyone. We've been lacking creativity at 10 so far this season and Gomes is the player to provide it, he will be inconsistent to begin with but he'll also provide the spark we need. I'd go with Greenwood over James as I think James can be more effective as an impact sub and Greenwood deserves a full game to show what he can do. The rest of the team picks itself really.

I think Ole will pick:
De Gea
Wan-Bissaka Smalling Maguire Shaw
Fred Matic
James Pogba Rashford
Martial

I think Ole will go with the experienced players, I can see him dropping Lindelof but he'll probably go with Smalling before Tuanzebe. Fred and Matic should be fit so I think he'll go with both and push Pogba further forward to replace Lingard. He'll probably stick with James given his goals, Rashford and Martial pick themselves.

We should play Lindelof's baby. It's what, 1 year old? Imagine if it settles in. We'll have a starter for the next 30 years!

Chong is already 19 ffs, he's going to decline in another 10-12 years. not worth it.

I never said it would, as I said that's the team I would play. The team I think will play is also posted.

The idea was to get an idea of what the fans would like to see vs what they expect to see.

Who's this Fred chap people keep including in the line up?

Must mean that mascot thing that walks around OT handing high fives and selfies.

I would like to see the same team as the last two games with Tuanzebe for Lindelof and Gomes for Lingard.

I expect Solskjaer will pick the same team as the last two games except either Mata or Pereira for Lingard.

Does not matter what team Ole picks, The people in this forum will find something to bitch about.

Mata will probably start, Lingard getting hauled off 53 mins, at home has to mean he’s dropped to the bench, minimum. Depends if martial is injured, but will probably see Gomes or Chong on the bench, but a relatively unchanged team.

Greenwood at 10 would be a brave call, I'd like to see if it works but I think Ole will go with Pogba or Mata at 10 before trying a youngster. If Greenwood starts it's more likely to be out wide.

Anyone who can run, pass and keep the ball. If it is mandatory to play Lingard, it may even be Lingard. But I would have thought Fred or Garner in this setup

I think Fred is more likely as long as he is fit. I think he'd go with Matic before Garner at this point too.

It will probably be Matic.

But if not, I'd be open to Lindelof as a holding midfielder next to McTominay. Kills several birds with one stone: gets the most out of Lindelof's strengths, minimises his weaknesses, lets a more natural CB take his place and frees up McTominay.

It could work but I don’t think he has his passing up to scratch enough to play in midfield. He’s a good centre back. To be honest Maguire and Smalling could be an excellent pairing.

Hope Shaw is fit because I’m just not watching if Young starts

We played best with 2 up top so would prefer to see:

Back 5
Mctom
Pogba Pereira
Greenwood
Rashford Martial

With front 3 exchanging

Martial injured, so is Shaw. I would keep De Gea:

AWB - - - Tuanzebe - - - Maguire - - - Young/Dalot

-----------------------Mc Tominay - - -Fred---------------------

----------------------------------Pogba---------------------------------

---------Greenwood - - - - - - - - - - - - Gomez-----------

-------------------------------Rashford------------------------------

Not seen how serious the injuries are yet but I'd like us to eventually play:

DDG
AWB - Lindelof - Maguire - Shaw
McT - Fred - Pogba
James - Martial - Rashford

That's our best mix imo. We can't play a midfield two, we need to drop Lingard, and the youngsters are not ready to be dropped into a big PL game just yet.

Ole needs to stick to his guns with the style of play and not retreat back to the old days of Smalling, Matic and Mata.

Drop De Gea, Dalot instead of Shaw and let's try integrating Fred back into the team. Pogba playing 10 instead of Lingard. Replace Rashford with Greenwood. Gives the kid more time to affect a game and gives us an option to use Rashford's pace against tiring defences.

Dalot is injured too, I doubt he'll be ready for next weekend.

We'll be fielding the U12 side by Christmas if a mistake like Lindelöf's means a player will be dropped.

Pogba is terrible as a no10 though. He can’t play with his back to goal or on the half turn.

You either play him like Ole is as our playmaker or as left of a midfield three. McTominay needs to do more of the dirty work and cover Pogba rather than playing box to box and getting too far forward.

Doesnt matter, we're dropping more points. Be lucky to come away with a draw.

Fourth league game of the season and Young is back in the starting 11, plus our supposed ideal centre-forward replacement for Lukaku (as #9) is also injured. Our squad is pathetic.

Lingard has to be dropped, obviously. Pogba has to play further forward. Fred or Pereira alongside McTominay, assuming it's too early to be throwing Angel in there.

Pereira is 3 years younger then Lingard, has a similar work rate, was slightly less shit against Chelsea and, if nothing else, offers something from set pieces. Playing Lingard over him is sheer idiocy.

But if Fred isn't good enough to start ahead of Pereira or Lingard at this point then what the feck is the point in him?

If Ole puts out another lineup with Pogba sitting deep and Lingard in CAM then he deserves to be sacked on the spot. So, so, so stupid to persist with it.

Lingard is clearly lacking confidence and needs some time to get his head straight so the main question is who comes in for him and is that one change enough. Pogba has been pretty good so far this season, he needs cover so his partner needs to be very disciplined but I'd say moving Pogba forward is not a solution to our problems.

Bring back Pereira to play in the #10 role and bring in Tuanzebe to partner Maguire

Southampton are another team that we need to be wary of. If we score first, we should go for the kill.

If Greenwood's such a good natural finisher how come Ole always seems to put him out wide when he comes on? He looks lost out on the flank IMO

Lingard really needs to be dropped by now, for a creative player his return is just shocking

He may work a lot but his assists (and goals for that matter) for an attacking player makes that void for me

Greenwood on the right is useless, so is Martial. I wonder if it is worth trying Martial on the right, Rashford on the left and Mason upfront. Also agree with posters who believe that PP should play further up the pitch but Fred and McT in this case does not fill me with confidence either.

DDG and back 4 stays the same if Shaw is fit.

Midfield will be Mctominay and Pogs.

Then Pereira at 10 with James, Rashford and Martial ahead of him.

If Ole is brave we go 4-4-3 with same front three but Andreas at 10 being switched with Fred in Mid. Then having Gomes or Mata as the potential number 10 sub if Southampton just sit in a low block all game.

Fred wont play. Why would you have Fred starting?

I see the same lineup except Pereira for Lingard (Or maybe Mata for Lingard)

Lingard is clearly lacking skill. A top player in his position should possess:
- creativity (he doesn’t)
- good passing (he doesn’t)
- good shooting (he doesn’t)
- good dribbling (he doesn’t)
- good decision making (he doesn’t)
- good work rate (he does)

He only has work rate and offers nothing else, at all. And - as a CAM - he never will.
