I take it Stokes will get some sort of major Royal honour at the end of the year? Would he be made a Sir (along with the rest of the World Cup team)?

I also imagine, at the minimum, BBC Sports Personality of the Year is a pointless this year. Don't waste time and money doing an award show

I feel privileged to have watched that test match. What an innings by Ben Stokes, that was a one in a lifetime innings. Take a bow son take a bow.

So who's gonna be playing Ben Stokes in his inevitable Hollywood movie?

As much as the last part of his innings will understandably get the spotlight the start was incredible too. Proper ground it out in the last session yesterday to stay in.

The punching fracas is the making of him. He will carry on doing the most remarkable things for several tests to come.

With Root, Stokes and Archer, England have an amazing foundation. If only they could find 1 world class opener, they could be world no 1.

I don’t get what you mean, unless by ‘abuse’, you just mean make horrible use of? Seems like you’re implying some nefarious use of DRS
It should only be used for obvious mistakes. I could tell that was way down leg, it was never a close marginal decision.

DRS review was not conceived for such. When you do, these things happen.

A month back before the series I said in this thread that only Ben Stokes could stop Australia from winning the Ashes . Little did I know that it would be so true

It’ll probably go forgotten, but how vital were those boundaries that Archer hit? One less of those and it may have been one too many for Stokes to get.

At lunch today I took Stokes at 11/8 . Easy money coming in this December

To balance it all out, not sure England could have done that without investing so much energy into one day cricket.

Brilliant win for England, but the Aussies must be gutted they didn’t kill the match off with the chances they had. Game on for The Ashes!

Aussies bottled it. The dropped catch, the Lyon run-out were bad but that review was criminal. Deserved to cost them at the end, was never out & pathetic captaincy.

Brilliant from Stokes. He’s played 2 of the greatest knocks I’ve ever seen in 2 different formats. What a player!
Yep, that's what nerves do to you. Australia ran out of ideas and panicked.

Stokes looks like he thinks he's about to wake up.

feck I wish this was on terrestrial TV.

Those two Ben Stokes knocks will do more for the legacy of this game than any number of pointless franchise T20(-20) matches.

It felt really significant in a way that he was the one to get the run that tied it. Unsung hero.

Jack Leach is going to be a pub quiz answer for the next 50 years.
Very funny that the bloke nearly scored a hundred as a nightwatchman and his best remembered innings is going to the the 1* he scored weeks later.
