There's absolutely no way he will play. Young will start. Darmian would start before him. Probably even Rojo would too.

Didn't Ole say that Williams will be back up to Shaw?

We will see if Ole is just talk, if Rojo, Darmian or Young play ahead of him then he might as well leave by mutual consent now, because those three will not fight for him, and he will be showing his lack of faith in youth, and show how much crap he talks.

Do you have a quote? I’d be interested to see that.

I don’t think it will harm us in any way to field him as back up

No worries.

I was just wondering if he was genuine or just another sound bite

Surely he’s got to be licking his lips knowing he’s got a big chance here.

Shaw isn’t up to it, he’s good enough to plug a gap but easy to dislodge

Hope we see him soon. It’s always exciting when a young player gets his chance.

With Shaw and Darmian injured, I think Young will start. So we will need FB who can cover both flanks, maybe he will be on the bench.

I'd give him a chance. He will most likely have lots of mistakes in him but that's the part of learning and becoming better. What would we lose? Option A, we give him a chance to compete with Shaw for the spot and we might have an upcoming great player in our hands or option B, we play Young who's going to be gone by next year anyway.

Bring him up and while they're at it Traore too.

I agree, the season is a write off anyway, blood in the kids. Seeing the own youth play and improving is the only excitement i get from watching us right now.

Traoré? Why? What's he done to deserve a call up?

Why on earth would we bring up Traore? He should try actually being good enough to start for the u23s first, which he isn't hence why he sits on the bench and is rightly nowhere near the first team.

Oh it's not only him I want up there's plenty of other guys. We are going to have a tough season and our squad depth is a joke. Our midfield options in particular is comical. Bring up Garner, Traore bring up the fecking lot of them if you ask me I've lost it with these guys. We still don't know if Fred will even decide to show up.

“The season is a write off” after 3 games. Really can’t be arsed with this place.

This café obsession with hyping up some youth teamer who is a million miles off being ready is bizarre and ridiculous.

Maybe throwing them in, and watching them struggle would stop it.

No one in this thread has said that so I assume you mean me and not even I said that. Giving players from the academy a chance when our squad is one of the worst I've seen in my lifetime does not equal writing the season off. We need them now more than ever.

As much as I like and believe in Williams - he is not ready to play regular football at Premier League-level. I have seen most of him games over the last year or so and offensively he is good enough, but he makes 3-4 sloppy defensive errors in almost every game. The kind of errors he most likely will stop doing with a bit more experience, but they are too many for playing at U23-level. Let him play some matches in the cups against weaker opposition and see how he is doing, as much as people here dislike Ashley Young - he is still at least 1 level ahead of Williams. But give him a year and that might change.

do we not have like 6 academy players in the 16 man squad every week? or more?

I'd prefer it if we only used the youth in cup games, or at the end of games when we're cruising 2/3-0, but the squad depth is horrendous, hence we have loads of youth in a faltering team.

All I'm saying is if our only left back gets injured, then why not put in the only other recognised left back at the club who isn't proven to be crap yet?

When did he say this. It's pretty clear it will be Young or Dalot at least before we're throwing 18 year olds in.

I hope we get to see him. He has got the right mentality. Loads of will and effort. He will make up for any mistake by being fearless in the other end, giving us a much needed edge that Shaw doesn't provide. Give him a shot, if it doesn't work out he can go back to U21 and build himself up for another run later. Give him a taste now that Shaw is out.

Yeah but there's loads on here expecting him to start Rashford, Greenwood, Gomes, McTominay and Tuanzebe every game.
It is pretty ridiculous, we should be celebrating that another youth player in McTominay is able to hold down his position in the first team, instead many want to play half the Reserve team.

I love to see youth players out there as much as anyone, but look at how Lingard is treated!

There may be, but I'm sure most level headed posters would want a gradual integration of these lads over the next two seasons. Personally, I think Gomes should come in now, and we should try to build a team around him, I think he could be that good. Realistically they should all be given a chance from the bench, and especially the cup games, but even then, they won't all play, possibly three, with one or two on the bench. Williams could be on the bench for the Southampton game, he can cover both full back positions. Greenwood and Tuanzebe look like they will stay with the first team, Garner may get games in the cups, but think it will be next summer before he starts in the first team.

It was just a bit of banter. I find it funny that people want to see every kid getting thrown in. For me, only Gomes is ready and needed, the rest is still not prepared. Although i do get excited about youth getting chances

Anyone seen that alleged quote?

There's no way he'll start over Young, but it's not implausible that he gets a spot on the bench over two players who are clearly unwanted. With two full backs missing, no less.

2/3 of our LBs are injured but people think it's a bad idea to give a chance to our U23s captain, top assister, one of the best performers in a team that destroyed everyone in their way so far.

Of course Young will still start but we need to be careful since he's pretty much our RB backup too.

Does anyone think that? I'd love to see that but I'm realistic enough to not expect that. Not least when we've got a very talented Gomes not getting any minutes despite our team really needing more technical ability, invention, ability to play in close spaces etc.

If a youngster is mentally ready and can offer almost as much as an established player who we know is not good enough, I'd 100% be in favour of playing the youngster. But we have to manage them in a way that doesn't do them disservice. And the way this club has been from top to bottom in the last 6 years is a poisoned chalice that's ruined managers and players alike.

Don't know much about him but would rather see him get a shot than have to watch Young starting games for us again.

This kid should get the chance instead of wasting time on Young. Liverpool did something similar with TAA and now they are reaping the rewards we should do the same.

This season he was very good. I didn't watch him much before (usually watched the hyped players) but this season I watched all the U23/21 games and he was impressive. Very good engine, gets up and down the pitch all game and also contributes a lot in the attack.

With Dalot and Shaw injured, he should be on the bench at least.
