Didn’t think he was that good really. Wasted the ball far too much.
I was told he started quite poorly but grew into the game and was very good alongside Hayden. He's also playing in a Newcastle team that is gonna cede possession against most teams I feel and won't be able to display his full repertoire. He's also been out injured for a period of time and it'll take a few more games until he's fully match fit IMO.

Fair points. Not sure he’s the DLP we’re looking for though.

We must have been watching two different games because the Lucas and Kane chances are as clear cut as you can get. Plus the through ball by lo Celso, to Kane which was a penalty. These are three clear cut chances. Most top clubs don’t need that many to score, but Pochettino unfortunately doesn’t have the quality at Spurs to finish of those easy chances. If Spurs wants to be a top club, the players will have to scored these chances. I tend to believe that Spurs players are really wasteful in front of goal. How you can’t say these three chances were not clear cut chances is beyond me.

I said for the majority of the game. The three chances you mention came in the last 5-10 minutes when Newcastle were tired and we upped the ante, in that period you absolutely expect a team to create 2-3 really good chances if they have players of quality and the opposition are sitting back. But previously to that, for about 75/80 minutes or so, we simply did absolutely nothing and failed to create proper chances.

Pochettino doesn't have the quality at Spurs .. but one of your two actual clear cut chances fell to Harry Kane, one of the world's best strikers. He also has Son Heung Min up front. Can we stop pretending he doesn't have quality attackers available?

Of those chances I'd say only the Lucas one was a clear cut, must score opportunity. But you create only 2-3 decent chances a game at home to Newcastle and you're going to suffer. This was not a game in which we pounded their goal and carved out clear cut opportunities but couldn't put them away, like Newcastle a couple a seasons back or United last season. This was a game where our passing was shit, our play was static and slow, and we failed to cut them open as a result.

This is what Pochettino himself is saying. He's said we can't justify the performance, that the passing was not good enough in key areas, that we didn't create enough, everything I've said is coming from the man himself yet you're here denying what he himself has admitted because you fancy him. Everyone can see we struggled to break them down all game and that we started far too slowly, the way you're describing the game you'd think we had them on edge but just couldn't get it in the net.

Seriously, you're the only person in this thread, or basically anywhere, who is saying otherwise. The manager of the team himself, all the pundits, all the fans, they're all saying we were shit, the passing was ponderous, the chance creation was dreadful. Yet you're saying we carved them open and the passing was crisp. Where are you getting this shit from?

Pochettino: 'We didn't create, we had possession but we didn't create enough chances. We didn't find the capacity to break down their defensive line...I'm very disappointed with the performance'.

@Amadaeus Are you going to continue to claim that our passing was good and we created enough? Or are you finally going to see what everybody else sees?

Doubt it. Think this is by far the worst.
It's not.

People on our forums are very, very angry about today's performance. Quite a few people questioning Poch and his future here.

But then, it's not based on one bad home game, it's a long stretch of poor form.

He is an absolute feckwit.
Poch himself: We were so boring in possession I had a siesta. This is why I waited till the 60th minute to make a sub.

Amadeus: Well actually I think they played well, Poch once more let down by his league 1 level players, the passing was crisp and beautiful.

Tbh I didn't want him as manager and was clear about that from the start.
Fair enough.

I quite like Ole but I do think the system he's trying to implement at United is fundamentally a bit flawed because it's clearly so reliant on pace on the break/counter attacking play. You can look great in those situations but most sides obviously will deny you that space.

It's not too far off the issues we're having when playing both Lucas & Son. They look great in games against opponents who grant us space to play in, but against the likes of Newcastle they struggle.

A little harsh blaming Poch. There's only so much he can do with limited funding.

Had Levy invested more at a time when his squad was crying out for depth and competition for places, you wouldn't be where you are now.

It's not harsh. He has the players to perform better than we are currently. We haven't won an away game in the league since January and we've been in mid table form for ages.

There's something wrong with the team full stop right now. We don't really look like we have a plan and the intensity just isn't there. I've been the first to say 'lack of quality' in the past but there's also a basic lack of a team which looks like it's being properly coached right now. We badly resemble an AVB team in our approach to games, and that's never been the case before under Pochettino, regardless of the players. The European run was fantastic but it hid a team which has been dreadful in the league for a long, long while now. He makes the same subs (and far too late), the same selection issues persist, and we are consistently playing the same shit football.

I'm a tad concerned we're starting to reach the stage now where we need fresh ideas and a fresh approach. Love Pochettino, love what he's done for the team and he's a top manager, but sometimes things can become a bit stale. The football has been really, really boring for a long while now, and that just isn't tolerated at Spurs.

I only caught the second half but you can see the half-hearted approach in many of the the Spurs players. The build-up play is slower, more reserved than in previous seasons. I noticed it last season, strangely enough, then again they reached the CL final so it couldn't have been that bad.

Eriksen is the life and soul of that team, he needs to remember he's still under contract with Spurs and any thoughts of Madrid should be put on the back burner for the time being. You need him firing more than anything.

The European run papered over the cracks, like I said. We did it in those games but in the league it was the same tired, bored performances for a long time.

Missing Eriksen is an issue because otherwise our midfield lacks playmakers, but it's not the whole problem. So many of our players just don't look sharp, energetic or ready to get the ball forward quickly. Something needs to be changing quickly and if we don't get some sort of reaction for the Arsenal game I think it's safe to say the club has a real issue this season. I was badly hoping last season's poor league performance was just a dip, but we've started this one in the same vein.

The decision to sell Trippier and not bring in a replacement looks more and more bizarre by the week as well. Can't believe any of our fans tried to justify it.

Tbh i have never got the hype with Pochettino's football in terms of aesthetics and i first said this while he was at Southampton, at it's best it's brutually effective and a nightmare to play against (your 15-17 side is one of the best I've ever seen in terms of pressing and forcing mistakes) but i never really got the media narrative regarding the brand of football. I thought Arry's Spurs team were a lot better to watch from a non Spurs fan perspective, especially during 2011.

I think 15/16 and 16/17 we were great to watch. Really energetic, a lot of younger players who wanted to play on the front foot and were fearless with the ball. We also played a lot of really intricate football in and around the box, not City level passing but it was good to watch and it was creative. With Rose/Walker we also had two bombarding wing backs who caused havoc, and again it was entertaining stuff. Certainly wasn't total football or anything like it, but I was excited to watch us week in week out. Our team under Harry was great fun no doubt, but obviously that did come at the expensive of some solidity.

Right now though we're just outright boring and stale. Basically the antithesis of what a Pochettino team should look like.

The Spurs are BS as well. I've said weeks ago that the apex of Poch's era has been 18-19, yet losing the UCL was a heavy blow that effectively ended an era. It's downhill from here, mark my words. Hell, they even lost 13 matches past season. Their 4th place was due to Arse and us constantly, hilariously fecking up in spring.

The UCL title by Liverpool was a huge boost and they are already challenging for the PL 19-20 title. But for Spurs it's downhill from here, as I've said. Best case scenario: trophyless and 4th-6th spots.

For all the praise Levy gets, how has he allowed three of their best players to reach the stage where they can sign contracts with other clubs in January? In Eriksen, Vertonghen and Alderweireld you’re looking at at least £100m worth of talent, probably more.

I can’t help but feel his hard nosed attitude to transfers has come back to bite Spurs.

They should be flying after reaching a Champions League final, not looking like they’re in disarray and losing to Newcastle.

Watched the highlights of the video of the game and you will have much better clarity. Spurs had chances as well in the 32 and 47 minutes mark. They were not void of creativity. The last 15 minutes, Spurs created three of their best chances and the timing is irrelevant because I have showed that Spurs still created chances prior to those minutes.

The statement that Spurs didn’t create any chances prior to the last minute either shows that you didn’t watch the game, have very poor insight or you a troll. I presented undeniable fact that Spurs created chances before that time mark. How will you respond? It was not clear cut? That was not your initial statement that Spurs didn’t create any chances. So I obviously proved you wrong in this aspect.

Kane is quality, I have no doubt about that, but the rest of the team is below that and for Pochettino to succeed he needs a quality squad with support from the board. How can you explain that the lineup spurs put out this game was weaker than his strongest team last season? Injuries? Yes. But even with injuries, Spurs should have bought in quality players to cover the squad in terms of depth. Sissoko, Winks, lamela, Kwp, Moura, Rose, and Sanchez won’t start at any top club, yet Pochettino has to deal with what he was giving because he is not backed by his board.

I have presented clear evidence that Spurs created several chances that you believe was non existent. With better players, Pochettino would not have such a hard time at Spurs. With a net spending lower than Newcastle and Southampton, Pochettino should just leave Spurs and make them irrelevant again.

Pochettino: 'We didn't create, we had possession but we didn't create enough chances. We didn't find the capacity to break down their defensive line...I'm very disappointed with the performance'.

Decent analysis of the performance:

I posted several evidence where Spurs created. If Pochettino said the world was flat, will you take his word as gospel? A manager can’t just come out and criticize his poor players individual. It is obvious to anyone that if Spurs players took the easy chances they created, they would have won.

You're an idiot. We had less shots on target than Newcastle at home and you're trying to make out like we created loads of chances and were creative. The manager of our team has come out and said we didn't play well and weren't creative, but because you have a ridiculous hard on for Poch and can't handle any sort of criticism of him, you're denying what the man even admits in order to fuel your agenda. At this point it's just sad and ridiculous and I don't know how you expect anybody to take anything you say about Spurs/Pochettino seriously.

Everybody with eyes, Spurs supporter or not, could see that we played like shit and were boring. You're the only one I've seen claim otherwise and yet I'm the one who didn't watch the game? Feck off, seriously. Jesus christ how the feck you manage to do these mental gymnastics in order to try and prove Pochettino has done well every single week without fail is beyond me.

The rest of the team is below that? He has Eriksen, Lo Celso and Vertonghen on the bench, the likes of Son and Alderweireld in the lineup and we're not good enough to play half decent football against Newcastle? Do you even actually believe this bullshit?

We haven't spent enough money and that's a problem, but the team is more than good enough to play better than we are currently. Pochettino himself again is admitting something isn't right with the team and that we're not playing to our full level, yet you're here (again) going against what he himself is admitting and claiming that it's purely a quality issue and that we're playing to that level. It's so fecking stupid.

You've presented clear evidence that we created 2 actual chances in 90 minutes at home to Newcastle. Which is absolute shite chance creation under those circumstances and proves nothing. This forum hates xG but we were at 1.26 vs Newcastle, which is genuinely dreadful considering we're at home to a team considered one of the favourites for relegation. We didn't get shots on goal, we didn't unlock their defence .. these are facts. Everybody can see it but you - pundits, coaches, managers, players, everyone.

Every top six club that isn't Liverpool/City has players that aren't really good enough/are youngsters (Chelsea have a bunch of kids and the likes of Zouma and Barkley, Arsenal have Maitland Niles/Willock/Xhaka/Chambers in the team) around the squad but you're acting like Pochettino is the only one who has to work under those circumstances. Lamela, Sissoko, Lucas might not be world class players, but they're certainly not terrible either and there is worse knocking about the top six.

Seriously, I fecking love Poch and what he's done for the club, but your agenda is so fecking annoying it almost turns me against him. The man isn't perfect and right now as a coach he's failing to motivate the team and we have a problem at the club. That doesn't mean 'poch out' or even close to it, but it's pointless to continue denying that he's making errors or that nothing can be placed at his door. Against Newcastle/Villa/City we came out in every game slow & unmotivated, that isn't a quality issue but suggests a mentality problem right now at the football club.

But whatever, it's pointless talking to you about any of this, you have the weirdest hard on for Poch going, considering you're not even a Spurs fan it's outright bizarre. The man isn't god. There's a good reason you've earned that fecking tag line.

Great way to avoid my questions. You stated Spurs didn’t create anything before the 80 minutes. I have proved you wrong like countless times already. I provided undeniable evidence and your insults showcase how right I am. I didn’t insult you because, I know I m right.

You state that Newcastle has more shot on target. It just shows how desperate you are to look right. The shot on target was three to Spurs 2... woah, such a huge gap. A bigger gap is Spurs 17 shots to Newcastle 8. Plus Spurs 80% possessions to Newcastle 20%...........let me repeat....80% to 20%. Spurs was dominate in every other important attacking stats.

As I stated before, Kane is the only top player at Spurs. As explained before their is some issues behind the scenes with Eriksen and Vertonghen. So until that issue is resolved, these players will not be as committed to poch as the other players. Lo Celso still need time, but I believe he is getting there. I expect to see him start shortly especially if the issue with Eriksen is not solved. You played more than half decent but the players Pochettino had was not good enough to finish Newcastle of. Give Pochettino better quality players and they will finish these chances. If Pochettino was backed, you would have gotten a player like Dybala who would have made a difference. However, Spurs don’t have the ambition of a top club.

Those Xg stats just favors me more about the lack of quality. How can you have so many shots with such low xg stats? Pochettino should be embarrassed that his players are not more prolific.

Just look at what happens when Spurs board actually back pochettino. They got a player like N’Dombele who has been great for them so far. However, Pochettino needs more players of similar quality. He can’t perform miracles every season. When Spurs drop out of top fours, the board will start thinking, maybe we should have backed the best thing we ever had at this club.

My god you genuinely sound unhinged. I know you're right about what? That we created chances before the 80th minute? We had fecking scraps to feed off and 2 actual clear cut chances throughout the 90, which is downright garbage for a team like us facing Newcastle at home.

They're Newcastle. We're Spurs. We're at home. They surrendered possession entirely (no press up until we reached the final third) and allowed us to keep the ball in safe areas, whilst committing maybe 1-2 men to the attack, yet still managed to get 1 more shot on our goal. Obviously we had more shots because as expected at home vs probably relegation fodder, you're going to dominate the match. Why are you acting like it's relevant that we were 'dominant' in attacking stats? Of course we were, it was Newcastle under Steve Bruce at home, they came for a point at best. That doesn't make our performance good enough.

Yeah, Kane is our only top player and Poch needs Dybala because Son/Lucas/Kane aren't good enough to manage more than 2 shots on target at home to Newcastle. They're mid-table level players really, how on earth does the man cope with it? The issues behind the scenes are partly down to Pochettino as well, regardless of contract situation they're needed at the club and we shouldn't be fecking around with them, it costs points. If Poch was backed we'd get Dybala? We tried for Dybala and failed due to image rights, same as fecking Manchester United, holy shit.

Because most of those shots were speculative efforts from afar/stupid angles because the players had no idea what to do because there was no attacking plan or clear idea of how to actually break Newcastle down. Pochettino should be embarrassed that he made Steve Bruce look like Mourinho in his prime.

Yeah, we have such an awful squad, the top six contenders are so much better on paper. Ndombele has played 2 games for the club and shown a bit of promise and you're here saying 'look what happens' as if that even means anything. Obviously we need to invest, and imo need to invest more, but we have a squad so, so much better than we're currently showing in the league (seriously, look at our run of league form) but the team can barely put together a few creative passes let alone consistently win games.

That's my last reply. There's no point arguing with someone who can't see what every Spurs fan or other rival fan can see: that this was an awful performance. You're completely blind if you're trying to argue otherwise and nothing I say is going to convince you otherwise because you'll do anything in order to avoid any criticism of Pochettino or his tactics.

3 clear chances*. But yes, you did have more chances before the 80 minutes mark which you chose to omit.

It is relevant because if you are dominant and fail to come out with the desired result, the blame goes to the quality of the players moreso the manager. It is not like you were passing sideways and not attacking the whole game like LVG side. You had 18 shots and only 2 on target. Those stats are damning for the players moreso than the manager. If the team I support had such statistics, I will question why are these players paid so much? They don’t deserve to play football with stats like those that speaks badly about their talent.

Yea Poch needs Dybala because he would have definitely been more prolific in front of the net than the three players you mentioned. As stated before, that two shots on target speak more about the quality of your players more than the quality of your manager. Image right is not an obstacle for a club that has ambition. United already broke the bank with Maguire and AWB. We had our statement signing. Poch needed that statement signing especially after doing the impossible and taking Spur to a champions league final. Yet, they only signed N’Dombele that cost around the same as Fred and loaned lo Celso who is not better than Eriksen. This was suppose to be Spurs window to outspend most of their rivals but even Arsenal spent more than them.
