“Jesse has never been the most prolific player in front of goal,” Ole admitted.

“If you look throughout his career, he has other attributes and Jesse’s contribution throughout this season has been fantastic. For me, from his first day in training he’s shown that he is determined to stay in the team, because his application in training and in games [has been great].

Of course, sometimes you want a bit more in front of goal, but he does so much other stuff. I left him out against AC Milan [on tour] and he scored when he came on and then he scored two the day after when we played Blackburn here [in a friendly behind closed doors].

“He can take criticism, he can take being left out because he has the right character to bounce back. I don’t expect Jesse to be anything different whether I pick him, or whether Gareth [Southgate] picks him [for England]. He knows he’s a good player and we value him.”
It's almost like Ole thinks he knows something that the Caf doesn't. So arrogant.

Jesse has no other attributes - any average number 10 can run into space, receive the ball and pass it back to the CBs.

I cannot believe he is a regular first team starter, it is absolutely mind boggling. I want Ole to succeed but I can't get on board with his persistence with using Lingard.

Oh well if he scored against Blackburn in a random behind closed doors game then that's fine :wenger:

That's all great. But if we have trouble scoring and creating chances, and Lingard does not help with that at all it doesn't make sense to keep him in the side.

Keep digging your own grave Ole.

"So much other stuff" is what they say but nobody including them knows what exactly that is

As much as i want Lingard out of the team, I don't expect Ole to slaughter him in public. He's one of the team, he's going to defend him to the hilt publicly. That's what leaders do. I expect nothing less.

But, like Sanchez, privately i hope he realises that we are going nowhere with Lingard as a starter. No outstanding attributes apart from 'works hard' isn't acceptable. As long as he stops picking him regularly, i don't care what he says to the press.

He certainly needs to start to deliver now. We are short in attack and he's enjoying the managers trust. He can't continue to be a passenger on the pitch, we need him to create to help Rashford and Pogba in the creative part.
If he isn't capable of that he really needs to be dropped.

Ole's using him as a vaccine, like what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

He is starting today isn't he?
He's now what Young and Valencia have been in the past for us - one of those players whose name on the team sheet deflates you. Obviously the difference here is that Valencia was once an excellent player for us. But its happened too much at a club like his - persisting with players who perform some sort of role for whom we are happy to sacrifice talent and technique. I do wonder when we'll have a manager who can either make these sorts of players work, or shifts the focus to genuine talent.

It's hilarious the lengths his manager go to, so he could find some evidence of his quality and praise him.

Lingard has a guaranteed starting spot.

He has lots of qualities = I can’t name any one thing he is good at.

I’m almost bored of the season already, I’m sure he’ll do a great dance when we score an equaliser in the last 5 minutes though.

Lingard appearing as a starter tells me:

a) we are so far from being a top team
b) all this stuff about youth is garbage, Id take 6th place if we were blooding youngsters and had a style, but Lingard, pereira tells me we don’t have the guts to do that even
c) we have swapped one group of players who weren’t good enough for another bunch.

The Lingard defender always claim that top managers like SAF, van Gaal, Mourinho and now Ole all played or praised Lingard. Bar a good month and a cupfinale goal he has never really shown to be a good player. I highly doubt any manager can make him work.

SAF could keep him in the squad but he loved class attackers and wingers. No way that Lingard would be a starter for a Ferguson team.

I don’t rate him either but f*** me, you’d think this guy has just murdered/raped a close family member or friend.

It's a bit mad that Lingard is now one of our senior attackers and one of the first names on the sheet in attack.

He's only been picked in terribly put together teams. No wonder our managers keep picking him when they're busy building soul destroying football sides.

We need you in charge and not these professional football managers, need a real genius who knows the one thing that matters is goal assist stats
Goals and assists decide games so yes they are kinda important.

Expecting your most senior attacker to score a few goals and provide some assists or even a key pass really shouldnt be too much to ask from that senior attacker... right?

Yeah obviously fans don't have a right to lay out an opinion on someone after watching them for so long and contributing feck all during that time.

All these professional managers who trusted Jlingz won so much with United! Can't lay a finger on them can we?

I watch games and I see things as they are and not pluck things out of thin air and portray them as Jlingz's out of the world contribution.

He shouldnt be a starter full stop but even more so against the smaller clubs where they play deep and we need to rely on creative players and his productivity is just shocking.

Lingard has come in for some unfair criticism down the years, but he deserves all the pelters he'll get today. He had 20 minutes to make an good impression, but was pure shit. He's was utterly selfish on the ball, taking shots from everywhere and ignoring teammates in space. No doubt wanting to silence his own critics but proving them utterly correct instead.

He shouldn't start for a long time now. Just not good enough and never will be.
