Can we all just agree that Lingard and Pereira played ok yesterday and leave it at that? I don't think there's many who think either of them should be in Man United's first team but bitching about either/both of them yesterday is odd and making it some sort of Vs battle is boring.
Not to be annoying, but I honestly do not agree that Pereira played ok. He had a good assist, and thats it.

It might indeed be odd to "bitch", ie discuss the match with fellow fans, about him, but I don't have much else going on!

Hopefully Fred gets given a chance, because his ceiling is imo clearly higher than Pereira and McTominay.
Not sure about McTominay as I reckon he’ll turn into a great player for us. Definitely better than Pereira though.

I still don't think McTominay is good enough to start, but he's definitely better than Pereira too.

I think the point he is making is that we already know Lingard is a useless player, Andreas at least still has (a little) time to prove otherwise.
Exactly this. I have no problem ruling out Pereira after this season if he does not prove himself. But ruling out Andreas who is 3 years younger from the same guy who is barking on Lingard is pure hypocrisy and delusion.

This whole thread ignores the fact that we have nobody else (until Gomes comes through) that can do what Pereira does: play #10 in a high-pressing system. Mata is too slow, Pogba doesn't have the work-rate and Lingard doesn't have the delivery.

People who want Fred and McTominay to play 4:3:3 in a double pivot with Pogba ahead are saying that they don't believe in the high-press system that Ole clearly wants to play - Pogba can not press with that intensity. They may be right, and it may be correct that Pereira isn't good enough, but after literally one game in the new system we don't have the information to know for sure. And if you want us to play 4:3:3 that's okay, but it's not what the whole team has been practicing through pre-season.

Personally I think Andreas did okay: he worked his ass off, got two tackles in in the first five minutes, attracted the foul that disrupted Chelsea before the penalty incident and assisted a goal. Did people go past him too easily? Sure. But our whole midfield was porous. And a lot of the reason people accuse him of "being positionally unaware" is that his job in Ole's system is to support the high press, which means that if the press is broken, he is the mid-fielder who looks stranded. That's not his fault when the press is going around mid-field via the gap left by Rashford.

Lingard and Fred are not direct replacements (well, Lingard can be, but with less creativity). Gomes might be the answer, but not for the majority of the season. Andreas is the best #10 we've got for now.

No one played that well in the first half apart from Aron, Maquire and to a lesser extent Lindelof. He played a lot better in the second half and why Chelsea was going through our midfield was the way Ole set us up in the first half. In the second half everyone played better as did Pereira. It is amazing that people are comparing him to Lingard, who has been an almost regular here for a few seasons now and is an England International. Pereira has not been playing that much football in the PL and to play the first game of the season against Chelsea is never easy.

Reading some quotes from him, I'm guessing there was some post match interview? He comes across as an intelligent guy, acknowledging that he wasn't involved much. Hopefully he can work on that and improve.

I quite like his skill set and we see some genuine class touches from him now and then like the goal he scored last season, a few free kicks and the cross this weekend.

That's not enough for us or for him to stick around. Big fan of his energy and guts but he needs to be involved more in the game and have more quality moments in a game.

He does have mean crosses and corners. I think he's the best in the team for those.

Honest question -- when has he shown these mean corners? It certainly wasn't against Chelsea, when every corner had way too much air under them, making any possible header completely ineffective.

It's been one game, he was very good at set pieces during pre season.

Pereira's biggest problem seems to be the mental side of his game. He has nerves and lacks composure as a result. I think a good run of games and being involved with the first team will fix that after a month or two max.

It was a bit strange they were lofted but it was quite clear that was a tactic as they were all going back post to Maguire.

IIRC he took quite a few pre-season corners and was pretty decent.

Good point. We all see his technical ability mixed with effort and assume he should be doing much more but maybe he lacks that confidence and experience.

Hopefully he gets regular game minutes and grows as a squad player.

What’s the point of this dude? He screams average and useless. Has a decent set piece and shot - at best. Otherwise a complete liability in any phase of play

At least he's 3 years younger than the other useless player, thus still has room to grow.

He has end product capability. That's already more than Lingard or Mata.

I really would like to see him instead of Lingard as a number 10. He can press well and also has the passing range so that we are not entirely dependent on Pogba for a piece of magic.

As average and useless as mata/lingard but at least he is decent at set pieces. Don't want to see Shaw or Rashford on set pieces any more.

Need to start for just his set pieces, it was so wasted everytime we have corners yesterday. Off the ball he still offer high press so he’s still useful in someway.

Can not only run but also play football a bit. Should start over Lingard, big upgrade.

Neat and tidy player but I'm confused about what kind of player he is and his best position. If you look at say Maddison, that's the kind of player he should be but he doesn't have the same influence.

He’s a better option than Lingard.
Yup. Even when he's done nothing in a game we've seen him contribute - that beauty of a curler last season, the wonderful criss cross against chelsea. How many fewer minutes than Jesse and again, another player with more key contributions

He needs to play the next game, he adds a little bit of bite, he can pass, he has that ability to pull something off, which Lingard just doesn't.

I wouldn't start him further back, I'd keep Pogba in midfield and play Andreas in Lingards role.

should be playing more minutes or ahead of that bum jlingz. We need someone to put in a decent set piece and he's the only one that can. He should of been the second sub off the bench with the amount of deadballs we were given, terrible man management from the club.

I would start him alongside Fred and push Pogba up into Lingard's position and see how we get on.

Indifferent toward Pereira. On one hand I've felt, judging on his United performances (competitive and friendly games),he's more often than not underwhelmed and lacked the certain qualities that his fanbase continue to lavish upon him. I also think he'll likely pull off more fouls than he would in passing the ball in any particular dangerous area. To be blunt,he's a blooming frustrating hatchet merchant at times.
But,positively, he's got offensive aggression and a willingness to keep going and incomparison to his colleagues, which could easily be argued that it's not exactly saying much, actually has a good set-piece/freekick on him and for that reason alone he'll probably feel slightly disappointed not to have featured more since the Chelsea match.

For his set-pieces alone you could argue he alreadly has a slightly higher skill-set that Lingard.
