Random irrelevant players always pop into my head from my childhood watching football. Often wonder what they are up to these days, or just think back nostalgically about how they played. Some I remember because they were just symbolic of utter rubbish plodders who used to occupy the PL in the 90s, early 00s.

Anyway, I’ll start - Marian Pahars. Not worthy of a thread in his own right, but he was a kind of alright striker and scored a fair amount of goals for Southampton and Fulham I think.

Danny cadamarteri - remember him at Everton and he looked like he was going to be a big player then fell of the face of the earth (well until google appeared)

Wasnt he dubbed the latvian michael owen. I always remember that and bought him in Championship manager, and he would always score 20+ for me.

Ian Olney - couldn't tell you a thing about him other than he played for Villa.

Slightly off.
I got very little exposure to football when I was a kid (until '94 when I started following football news and matches on TV).
I knew footballer's names from hearing older people talking, Pele, Maradona, Platini, van Basten, Gullit, Rummenigge, Burruchaga, Kempes,t the only names I knew (didn't even know Frank Rijkaards until 1994).
The first footballer I remember watching on TV was Ed de Goey for Netherlands (around late '80), won penalty 5 - 4 or something.

The first English footballer I knew was David Platt.

Oops sorry, Ruel Fox clearly is not random average footballer.

If you say his name a couple of times it doesn't sound like a name anymore.

Massimo Maccarone played with Middlesborough.
