Yeah, I meant on the field captain as Young wont play when everyone is fit.

Also Defense is more or less set now with De Gea, AWB, Lindelof, Maguire and Shaw.
Pretty much, the next purchase we make for defense should be another LB.

Hopefully that is the case as it would be a massive thing not to have to worry about but already this season we've had Lindelof questioned and Shaw's dodgy fitness has returned :nervous:

But yes if we can go a summer or two without having to make any signings in defence and concentrate elsewhere it would be great

Why do you care?
Look no longer than Sanchez and his deal, and you'll understand why I'm asking. It sets a precedent. If he doesn't perform, and others do, they'll at least want equality and that's a bad spiral. Plus we can't get rid of them.

Anyone care to venture a guess as to what he's earning now?

Considering the club saved £1 billion a week after the summer departures, it must be somewhere in the region of £350-400k a week.

Glad to see this saga finally put to bed either way.

It's not that long its a 3+1 year deal It's not like it's a 6 year deal.
Exactly this. Not like he is getting a 6 year deal.
We will not buy anyone next summer anyway with our other priorities. If we are buying someone, it will be in 2021 means he will have only 2 years left.

To be honest, I dont expect our rebuild to be over before that anyway.

I think this will be a mistake. I hope not, but I think it will be.
Dont know, worse case scenario if he has many more errors in him come the end of the season at least we can get a fee for him now and I think on reputation alone there would be takers from big clubs.

I know exactly why you're asking but why? Why must you turn something positive into a negative?

Excellent news.

The excessive criticism of him and absurd overrating of other keepers because their defence did a good job just highlights the fly by night nature of fans.

feck off. Dave has years of performing for this club to justify his wages. The Sanchez deal is nothing like this one.

This is brilliant news! One less position to worry about next summer. If we were in a position where we had to replace Pogba and De Gea, then we would have been in real trouble.

Hate them. Should be slapped for their stupidity.

Good news. We can sell him if Henderson becomes good enough to be #1, and de Gea's form dips. If de Gea performs like the old David, then we're guaranteed a good amount of transfer money, or best of all, he stays as our keeper.

Glad we have kept him, I know he's had a few dodgy moments lately but still think he is very good.

Like the little video he has made of him walking out at OT, saw that first on my news and thought ooh has he finally signed his contract. Though on of the shots did remind me of the now infamous Sanchez video!

Just hope we arent paying him silly money.

He was good vs Leicester, so this is fantastic.

Joke aside, I’m relieved, and think it is a an important thing. For appearances sake, De Gea and Pogba were our two big names internationally, and with Pogs setting his Raiola-Grindr in active mode, it’s good De Gea showing the world he is staying.

Financially, I don’t worry too much. From a ‘what’s right’ perspective De Gea being a top earner is as deserved and right as Sanchez being it is wrong.

From a football perspective, I think he is going to get back to his normal self, and The fact we will have a set back five of good qality to build from is very good for the team. I also think Maguire is going to complement him well.

I think it’s great news.

And he’s got two clean sheets now (this means he can alternate if one gets soiled).

yeah seems like could coincide easily with henderson getting experience and being ready to take over. Hopefully sheffield stays up and he can get back to back years with them. Then maybe reassess DDG and maybe sell for decent amount and then bring henderson back. Wouldnt have been good having to replace DDG next summer with all the crap we still need to fix.

Glory Glory Fax Machine.
The whole fax machine fiasco was a masterstroke from Woodward, to be fair. His best contribution to the club since he became chairman.

God knows where we'd be without DDG between the sticks during the post-SAF depression era.

If you’re a Guardiola fan boy that judges a goal keeper purely on his ability ping 80 yard passes.

His job is to stop shots and no one is better
Not really...

If you're judging goalkeepers on their shot stopping ability only then De Gea is still someway down on that list. You're lying to yourself if you think he's not.

How is anyone thinking that giving this guy a new contract can be a mistake or a bad move!? He's undeniably been the best goalkeeper in the world for years, doing it behind a defence as poor as ours has been in recent years. It showed in the game over the weekend that he's settled and comfortable now the contract is sorted and I'm sure he'll gain us points from his performances during the season.

Depends on the wages and performances. For now it is ok, but maybe selling him in summer will be an option. Hope he repays it with getting back to form

There’s no way we can get rid of him if he continues with his form, not on his new wages.

This was an all in bet, it eithers works out or we are stuck with another Alexis.

Think having a lot better defence ahead of him will be beneficial also the money we would need to spend on a goalkeeper can be spent where it is desperately needed. Will be interesting to see how we deal with Henderson as I think if he develops properly he can be DDG's successor.

Maybe his poor form over the last months has something to do with it?

Hope the club negotiated the deal based on his recent performances. Anything more than £235k a week is an outrage.

I think we just sealed Henderson future, there’s no way he will agree to wait for 4-5 years (at least) to start games for us. He will most likely be sold next summer.

Pleased by the news. If he can recapture his form of a year or so back then he's easily one of the best in the world. Also, if it doesn't work out then the club and him can part ways on good terms.

No one is saying it's a bad idea but it is a gamble, and an expensive one at that. If his form doesn't return to what it was 18 months ago it's a very bad investment.

God no, Lindelof should be upgraded, he's not the longterm answer, unless he drastically improves on his weaknesses. Shaw can't be relied upon either for numerous reasons.

Good. Very good news.

That means his head and heart is at Manchester Utd. He obviously likes living in Manchester and gets the money he wants with Man Utd.

Probably, he will be a lot more focused than in 2018-2019. Hopefully no more puzzling personal mistakes.
