Our first match as a pro women's team was against Liverpool last August in the WSL Cup, we won 0-1 at their Tranmere ground.

Liverpool's women's team won the WSL title in 2014, but didn't keep pace with the extra investment that clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea and City put into the game. Last year they came 8th (of 11) having lost a bunch of players (mostly to us!) - but they're building again now. Both teams are currently sat on zero points, with zero goals scored.

Leigh Stadium is just off the East Lancs (the pre-motorway Liverpool-Manchester road) and it's more or less half way between the two cities. It doesn't clash with United (our match against Arsenal is on Monday night) but it does clash with Liverpool's televised away game at Sheffield.

But it should get a decent crowd and a decent atmosphere. West stand is sold out, they've moved onto selling South stand (the seating behind the goal) now:

We don't have a match this coming weekend - it's a WSL Cup group stage weekend, we're in a group of five and it's our weekend off. Which might not be ideal preparation after two defeats, but will give our injured players time to recover.

On our injury issues - I've not seen Lotta or Jackie in any training photos - which is worrying, though of course you don't always see everyone in those.

Most significantly, as far as I can tell, Groenen isn't in the Netherlands squad for their upcoming Euro qualifiers.

They should still have enough to beat Liverpool. It get's a little worrying if they yet again draw a blank in front of the net. I know Arsenal & City are in a different class, but still, you'd hope doubt's haven't set in already.

With 14 days to the next game, I hope both Groenen and Okvist does not play today, it seems like a risk we dont need to take. Especially with concussions, thats tricky and you dont want to risk anything. It would be a credit to the clubs medical team and the staff if they do not play today. Too much gambling with concussions especially these days, very dangerous.

Btw, excuse if me going off topic, but if I want to read like newspapers articles about or ladies team, can you recomend which papers? Is there some local papers writing like columns after games and so forth?

Truly awful weather in Manchester this morning. The rain has now slowed to a drizzle for the moment in Leigh - but getting here was heavy going. Anyway, I'm just finishing my Bovril in the LSV RedCafe - and heading into the game. I've parked my canoe nearby.

Frustrating today. Not playing badly, but a lot of slow sluggish play, and miss hit passes, leading to dangerous situations and missed opportunities. We looked better towards the end of the half, hopefully we'll start the next half looking sharper.

Incidentally, the match is on MUTV and on the (free to view) FA Player.
Tried to make an account, works fine up until the terms conditions page but the box stays greyed out. Have opened both links multiple times for terms and privacy policy, scrolled right down on both.

Glad to read it's 1-0 to United

It is mental that James the youngest in the pitch was the one showing game management skills and trying to eat up the clock at the end. We probably wouldn’t have gotten the 2nd if the others had done similar but credit to her.

Want to add a few of them look like they are really searching for a goal and taking on stupid chances when there are others better positioned.

No worries
Well deserved win in the end. The first half was a scrappy affair for both teams. Lotta really struggled in the first half. Second half though we were much the better team. James was fantastic. Galton was also really good. Overall another really positive game and finally we get rewarded for our efforts.
