With our current injury problems we must have the shortest team in the league. Ederson must be our only likely starter who is at least six foot tall? That's going to be a big problem. If we had to play Liverpool with our current personnel I genuinely think they'd virtually be guaranteed a goal from a set piece.
Rodri is 6'3

Can't really sympathise with the amount of money they have spent.

Mangala, Otamendi, Laporte, Stones all cost north of £40m with only Laporte showing he's worth anything near that fee.

It's mind boggling really when you add up what they have spent over the past few years, and that's not even including the £150+ million on full backs like Mendy, Walker, Cancelo etc

It's what your going to spend when you want to replace an entire back line and that to asap.

We've had terrible luck getting decent centrebacks, part of it makes me wonder if they just don't look worse because even though we give up few chances, the ones we do give up are golden. Regardless, I would rather we try a youth player than go out and buy another centreback, there comes a point where we have to give the kid a chance or there is literally no point having a youth academy.

Your academy is just business. You've sold youngsters for 140m (!) over thе last 3-4 years. That's what you paid for Laporte, Sane and Bernardo.

I could be wrong on this one.

I don't think losing either Stones or Otamendi will change their current situation, Pep might use this to make the opposition team think they have chance if they go attack. Pep care more about keeping possession rather than having solid defend. Those two are not as special as Laporte or Kompany in defending so I think they can still be replaced by Fernandinho or Gundogan.

Missing Laporte is definitely still their current problem.

Yeah, the stars are aligning perfectly aren't they for the Scum to finally win the title this season.

City will probably go hard for CB in the January window but I can see them dropping more points by Christmas. The Scum - not so much.

Tell me about your outcast experience. I mean, did you get a sudden conversion to liking red? Did you go there undercover? Did you develop a taste for the Ed Woodward school of diplomacy? Or does it have something to do with Denis Law? I dont want to derail the thread but im curious
I got banned for daring to talk down Pep Guardiola during the 16/17 season. I came here to talk football. Nothing spectactular.

I've always felt that Otamendi is often underrated. His recent performances have done me no favours but I still stand by that view. At any rate I would not even contemplate the idea that Stones is better than him.
I agree with you he on his day is an outstanding defender something Stones could only dream of. But it´s not good having to choose from him and......him.

You'll do well here.

on the CB 'crisis' they have more than enough cover in my mind. Fernandinho will just drop in - and they still have a surplus of midfielders to cover for him.

What?

I'm convinced more than ever that people on City are more clueless than not. In what world is Gundogan any cover at the CB position?

I'd be careful about saying Liverpool have the title race to lose. They had a great position last year and still City ended up winning the title.

I'm sure City will manager. They keep the ball so well so it should not be a big problem.

If they're still struggling for defenders in January then they'll sign one or even two for big money.
They don't mess about.

Its the famous 1-0-9 Formation with Gündogan as the only CB.

Surely there's someone of reasonable quality in their u23 squad ready to step in? City fans?

How come?
If the target was Home Grown/British there would be a premium price which would put us in FFP problems. If it was an overseas player we don't have room in the squad for them without leaving out Sane or Laporte for the whole season.

No match day thread?
City absolutely twatting Watford, KdB just scored a screamer for 8-0. Probably breaking some records again today.

I don't think they'll shit the bed (while Infront) this year as they have the experience of winning now. Should they get another 7 points on City I think they will successfully hold it this time and quite comfortably so even at this stage it's paramount City keep winning.

The anxiety of going for trophies always lessens once you win one, boy they got a lucky break getting a final vs the one team who have an even bigger habbit of blowing things at crunch time than they did.
