Reading a fair few complaints on Reddit about the performance on console. Say it ain't so. :(
It's probably so, unfortunately. It's not a graphically impressive game, but it has some pretty steep spec requirement on PC, and performs pretty badly on good hardware. These days, when that's the case, you can expect the console version to be equally poorly optimised.

Gearbox also has a history of this. BL2 ran like absolute shit on PS3/360 on release.

I’ve gone for my usual gadgety stealth character in Zane.

Definitely noticing a couple of performance issues. Just feels slightly stiff and stuff taking an extra second to load. Hopefully patched soon.

Does it not let you add small percentages to skills when you complete challenges now? I can’t find the list of challenges I’ve completed. Badass tokens no longer a thing?

Girlfriend surprised me with with last night after I spent the car journey saying how it'd been slated.

Pleasantly surprised. There are definite performance issues, most notably the game runs like shit in the menu, and if you play coop you will need to use menus simultaneously because the frames drop into single digits for the other player. Also the on screen text is tiny and for some reason misaligned during cut scenes.

The gunplay feels good though and I like the new characters so far.

Probably won't play it much now because I finally got into GoW and want to finish that first.

I have it on ps4 and I have an SSD. Game runs great with only exception being the menu load time in co op. Even then, after a while it seemed to sort itself. I've not noticed frame rate dropping once.

I've played around 10 hours and, as a borderlands fan, I'm really enjoying it. I'd imagine those without an SSD on console may have a very different experience. You can get a 480GB SSD plus external mounting case for about £55-60 and on PS4 it makes a huge difference for many games. E.g. destiny 2 and monster hunter.

Once you get off Pandora and get your base on Sanctuary it’s good shit. I was enjoying the first part but having replayed Borderlands 2 very recently I was still a bit sick of the same environments and skags/varkids.

Would you say the performance issues are possible to brute force through (hardware wise) or are they so bad that it'll be annoying no matter the hardware?

Started playing borderlands 1 last night.

I’ve seen some people say it works better with an SSD. Sure it’s just a patch needed.

Whenever I pause my game says there is an update available and asks if I want to quit to the main screen to do it but when I do that it just takes me to the menu and there’s no option for the update?

The game really does run like shit in local multiplayer.

Really hope they patch it soon.

Is Sanctuary the ship? feck me that area is confusing. I'm enjoying it but forgot how stressful it was with managing your inventory and deciding what weapons to ditch. Used one of my gold keys and unlocked a cool pistol that fires rockets. Got a fair few left which I'll spread out throughout the game at different levels.

Just done the mission with Zero where you get him the sword upgrade.

I'm playing as FL4K. He's got some insane damage output on his skill trees with criticals. Works well for me because I love using Jacobs guns.

Yeah it's the ship.I thought it was laid out quite sensibly

Yeah I'm enjoying playing as Zane the Irishman. I do die a decent amount though and my clone, while a good distraction doesn't really help me that much even with upgrades. His damage is poor I think. I'm currently at the end of the story mission with Kagawa or whatever his name is. On the boss battle.

Very glad they chose to expand it to other planets this game. I was starting to think the game was getting a bit stale with the first part on Pandora but the new settings really help it and change the game.

I've also just read that the you're supposed to melee the purple rocks for Eridium. News to me ffs.
I tried that several times and my guy said no chance of them breaking.

I reckon we haven't unlocked the ability yet...

https://www.polygon.com/borderlands-3-guide/2019/9/13/20857304/unlocks-eridium-gun-slots-mods

In fact, this misconception plagued me for the first dozen hours or so when I was playing Borderlands 3 for review: I kept wondering what I was missing that would allow me to carry four weapons at once (instead of the two I started with), and when I would unlock the ability to use class mods that augment my abilities and the levels on my skill trees.

But rest assured that there’s no magic side quest that you need to tackle to get to this content. You’ll unlock the extra weapon slots, the ability to mine and spend Eridium, and even the use of your class mods — along with other options — in due time as you play through the Borderlands 3 campaign. The game just takes its sweet time offering these abilities to you, past the point that I expected to have full rein over my loadouts. But it will all be unlocked if you’re patient and keep plugging away.

Was going to get this on release but I think I'll wait for a drop in price and for it to get a few patches. How's the storyline and sense of humour compared to the other games?

Pretty much the same as the previous ones. You get what you expect basically. Enjoying it!

Not been able to play this all week. Have they managed to patch it yet or does it still run like shit?

It runs fine to be fair. The menus can be a bit laggy though.

Level 21 at the moment and I just did the mission where I opened the first vault. Jacobs + critical hits = head explosions all the way.

Some of the dialogue is hilarious too. FL4K can direct his pet to attack individual enemies and he usually says something standard when he does it but last night he came out with "That one was talking shit" which proper cracked me up.

I’m level 25 at the min and doing some stuff on Eden-6. Not as many side missions as I’d hoped though but maybe more to come.

I missed a few early on, along with all those little search and find quests like the Typhon logs, claptraps etc...My tactic is to go and do a few side bits just to get 1 level about the main mission level before I take it on. Working out quite well for me.

If your're on Eden 6 you'll get the skill top smash those Eridium blocks soon.

Menus are a pain and my mrs and I have had trouble with our internet where the lag gets so so bad. We've even been kicked out of the game and asked to insert the game disc, which we don't have as we downloaded the bloody thing. We've switched to offline which has improved performance but after an hour or two we get kicked as 'you need to be online to play BL3', pretty infuriating plus having been mostly unable to play with my brother has been a big disappointment.

All of that said as die-hard BL fans we're enjoying the game very much. She's gone FL4K down the blue/Skag/rift tree while I've gone Moze's blue/grenade launcher/splash damage tree. I've enjoyed blowing a load of shit up (crushing the already creaking framerate in the process ) while she's enjoyed having a 'dog' alongside her in battle. We're at lvl 35 now, starting to go down our green trees and very much enjoying the storyline/script stuff. I was worried when I first saw the Calypso twins. They looked small beer versus Jack's brilliantly fleshed backstory and transformation from smartass prick to pure evil, but I'm liking how they're savage and deranged and yet by the same token vapid and poserish.

:) Fair point. They get annoying after a while tbh. Freddie is constantly in the way.
The amount of times I've blasted it in the heat of battle...

From what I've heard FL4K seems to be the most popular character, followed by Zane. I think the latter will be my next character, followed by Amara.

How's Mose btw? I started with her then changed to FL4K pretty quick. My thinking was that the best thing about the game is the guns and her main skill kind of negates it...

I like her. Her action skill didn't appeal to me either for the reason you mentioned and it being the longest cooldown on this game. However that at least gives you plenty of time outside the Iron Bear to use guns, which involved lots of Torgue/rocket launchers/grenades to exploit her splash damage buffs on the blue tree, while the way you can customise each arm with a different weapon keeps the skill interesting. I've had grenade and rocket launchers on each arm (again buffs to splash damage dovetail brilliantly) and have now moved to a nuclear warhead on my left and a big minigun on my right, which is very fun and I haven't found it too jarring with the usual the run and gun gameplay.

I've seen a lot of FL4K up close, though probably not his best skills, so I want to get my hands on Zane's foregoing of grenades for another action skill (thinking clone/drone, though my brother swears by the barrier) and try Amara as I always enjoy the sirens.

Cool. Yeah I'll probably go with Zane if I do a second run through. Mini-gun though always makes me

I was Salvador in the second one and loved dual wielding too. Never really been that interested in the sirens.

My green tree is shields which is shite. Shields are boring. I've put most of my points into my clone.

And @CassiusClaymore I already got the eridium punching thing before Eden-6, right? You pick it up
in the first vault

Oh yeah sorry. I got mixed up. We're both at the same point then. I'm on the Eden 6 mission now.

How the hell are you level 25??!? Unless I've got that mixed up as well....

Sexist.

Yeah my originals were Brick/Salvador/Nisha/Moze. All good fun with potentially devastating attacks. Brick's action skill was a bit stupid but I liked his rocket buffs. Moze is kind of a better version of Brick really.

Is this a good game? Need something new to play and I've never played a Borderlands game before.
Yeah they're good fun. The original and best loot shooter, good humour in the games too.

Just finished the story.

This is the first Borderlands I've properly played and I loved it. Tempted to go back and try 2 and Pre Sequel now.

I was worried the performance issues would ruin it for me, especially as I was playing coop with my gf, but I ended up starting a single player run because I didn't like the play style of Moze and the games does perform much better in single player.
