Suppose after the Herrera fiasco this summer the club are reluctant let players run down their contracts.

His weakness remains aerially. And of punts upfield.
Bigger weakness for a CB than people are understating. At some point it will become a discussion on whether he should be a starter for a team with our aspirations. Same way people got fed up of having to rationalise Jones/Smalling's errors

Yeah Lindelöf is okay for now, especially if Axel steps up, but in the long-run a club with ambition needs a better CB to partner Maguire. Considering how long we persevered with Jones/Smalling, I strongly doubt our ambition so Lindelöf will probably get a testimonial here.

Smart to extend him, at the very least we preserve his value if he does leave at some point and we avoid another Herrera scenario.

Sorry, but I've had enough and my patience with him has ran out. He has no leadership abilities, he does the same thing Lukaku did. Just waving with his arms out looking for others to come help out. Putting responsibility on others. It is like he is waving his arms to let the opposition knows he has no idea what to do next so just come and press me right now. It becomes oh so predictable to read and puts us under huge amounts of pressure. He makes simple passes look gracious but when he actually has to be creative or accurate regarding more difficult passes, he disappoints time after time.

A few encouraging signs last season apart (where he seemed to get more physical) he is just too weak to be a CB. He never manages to intercept the ball from the attackers and don't even seem to know what to do when a target man is introduced. Stuck in no-mans land in between not getting close enough to the attacker and anticipating the next move. He is too weak to challenge a target-man and not assured or quick enough to anticipate and sniff out danger in the next move. Totally useless in a high-line and it leads us to drop deep every time because we aren't able to win the ball back quickly with him. Puts us in huge amounts of pressure.

Don’t like his waving but think he had a really solid game. Better than Maguire who let Y step on him for the first goal. Victor was really proactive and prevented a lot of attacks by geting up close and blocking. Sad that the team as a whole looked so clueless and lacking energy and structure. No creativity what so ever and Mata looking like a slowmo runner.

Rubbish, scared of heading a ball, missed a header training before the game when a coach threw it up for him, not good enough

Didn't think he played that badly. Tried to move the ball quickly, zero movement ahead of him. .

If Smalling or Jones passed the ball like he did today they'd be ripped to shreds. Passed it straight out of play at least twice and a number of other aimless punts under little pressure.

Plays a brilliant 5-10 yard pass. Modern day CB’s these days.

That header in warm-up is quite like the Southampton one actually. You can hide behind Vestegaard being tall all you want but the fact is Lindelof fecked up every part of that play and jumped and missed the ball whether Vestegaard was there or not. He has now managed to do the same in a warm-up. He seems to lack basic understanding of how to position his feet and how to time it when trying to get up, it is schoolboy shit.

He was decent on the whole today though, other than when he was kicking the ball to touch for no reason. He simply isn't very good on the ball either, nothing more than decent.

Decent today without being great. Not good enough when comparing to 10 years ago, but this isn't 10 years ago. He's one of the more solid of the current lot.

I hardly notice him whenever we play deeper line. I will never understood what exactly we saw in him that made our scouts decide - we must buy him. Can his fans explain what his best attributes are? He is here for what; 3 years, and I am not really sure what he is great at?

One of the better in United and did well from a defensive pov. Opposite of what some said above, he is taking responsibility to cover or other and works proactively. Missed many long passes.

Think he did well yesterday. Everyone keeps pounding on the fact that Lindeloff doesn't hit long passes but from what i can see our midfielders (Pogba, Matic) are in his face expecting the ball more often than not and the other players are running like headless chickens or are standing still facing Lindeloff.

Maguire passes Lindelof and Lindelof passes Matic or AWB, rinse and repeat. We need more movement in midfield and forward positions,
to get some options for Lindeloff and Maguire, if we want to see their passing abilities.

Are people seriously hammering Lindelof for missing a header in warmup?

This is the big one for me - what exactly about Victor Lindelöf stood out so much to our scouts that the club thought, "yep, he's the one". He doesnt have a single stand-out trait as a CB.

Say it after every match but just utterly average. Doesn't really add much at all.

Will never be a top player.

Which players in our current squad do you see winning (another) PL title? Can be said for every player.
Which is sort of my point.

For all the umming and ahing over him, the reality is he is one of many that need replacing to get back where we need to be.

I think there are a handful of players either good enough to be here, or potentially good enough to be here.

A worse defender than Chris Smalling. But would do better than him if both were asked to play #10, which is how centre halves are judged these days. He’s an alright player, but no more than that. Actually, he’s a good player, but he has some absolute red flags in his game which are a massive disadvantage for a centre half, or at least what a centre half should be in my view. He has no physical qualities at all, and is petrified in the air.

Where do you get this from? If he was petrified in the air, how come there is only one United player who attempts more headers than him and only one player who wins more headers than him? Maguire number one. Lindelof second with 50% more attempts and won aerial duels than number 3, McT.

We should go ahead with Tuanzebe and Maguire as the 2 CBs. I’d like to see them together as I believe they better compliment each other than Harry and Victor

An average passer of the ball for a CB, really nothing to write home about and combined with his deficiencies in other areas of his game, he's not of the quality to be a starter in our team.
