AS Monaco 2019/20 | Jardim sacked again, former Spain manager Robert Moreno hired

Apparently carrying on where they left off last season. Not had a great start to the current Ligue 1 campaign, currently propping up the table after 2 games played and 2 identical results with 3-0 defeats and a red card in both matches and an opening day home attendance of just 10,000!

Monaco really are an anomaly but I will always have a soft spot for them. Wonder how long Jardim will last this time round. Surely this is a perfect project for Wenger to get back into the game? If Mourinho was to lower his expectations and take on a real challenge like AS Monaco and get them back to the top competing with PSG, I would never have a bad word said about him ever again.

They're carrying a few injuries and suspensions with Aguilar and Fabregas carded and Falcao, Jovetic, Subasic, Pellegri and Geubbels injured.

Monaco have also been busy in the closed season reshaping their squad. Hopefully things will start to gel and come together on the pitch.

They still have no midfield and deserve these results especially when you have the audacity of using Jemerson in midfield. By the way I don't understand the caf obsession with their attendance 10k is a quarter of Monaco's population.

Was going to say, 10k is pretty good for Monaco. Their stadium only holds around 18k I think.

It's not an obsession. Like I say they're an anomaly. It's like Bournemouth being a top 4 side and constantly churning out top class players year in year out.

It's definitely an obsession when the attendance is regularly mentioned. Monaco is one of the oldest professional clubs in France, so logically people should be used to things like their 10k attendance. I'm not having a go at you, I just find the constant surprise strange/interesting.

How good are Geubbels and Pellegri?

Football Manager would have you believe they’re the next Ronaldo and Messi.

Geubbels I don't know but Pellegri is pretty good for his age. Though they have been injured a lot in the last 12 months.

It happened again. Their 3rd red in the last three games.

Fecking 2-0 up as well and conceding 2 sloppy goals to throw away another 2 points.

Is it me or do they have a player sent off every single game, Jemerson must've had 6 reds since 2019 started.

Also couldn't work out their formation today...they had front two of Ben Yedder and Slimani then Gelson Martins out wide, Golovin as number 10 and they also started Henry Onyekuru who's allegedly a forward. So they had just Adrien Silva as a holding midfield? And he hardly played for Leicester in pre season so well short of match fitness.

It's unbelievable the amount of red cards they get
9 sent-offs last season but most of them were in 2019.

So Golovin playing deep? He's much better as a number 10 from what I've seen rather than box to box and having to do defensive work.

Monaco need to play a bit more cautiously, grind out a couple of 1-0s and then they can put out their fantasy attacking 11s. Already this season is looking hard work for them.

Honestly thought it was even more than that. Feels like they ended up not getting a result due to a red card for every one of those 9 reds.
I thought too 12-13 but like said most of the sent-offs were in 2019.

4 sent-offs in 4 games in a row is surely impossible.

Gelson Martins -- Golovin --- Adrien Silva --- Onyekuru
--------------------Slimani-----Ben Yedder

Yep that line-up is maybe okay against lower division teams in a cup competition but in the Ligue 1 ehm :houllier:

They need Fabregas back, is he suspended or injured? Would give them more nous and creativity centrally.

Would take out Slimani and bring him on hour mark, Ben Yedder can lead the line no issue.

He isn't really missed, he lacks physicality and in Ligue 1 that's a killer.

Getting mullered at home again. Started well with two goals from Ben Yedder who looks like he'll only be there the one season. Capitulated again and now 2-4 to Marseille (didn't know Villas-Boas was their boss). Jardim needs to turn things around and fast. No wins in 5 all season is petty bad.

About to win their first game of the season against high flying Nice. Actually played quite well. Could just have saved Jardim's ass.

Results do look choppy. Guess we see what Jardim does next. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him end up in China or something.

Don't understand it this time. They had a slow start but have picked up in last six weeks. Thrashed Lille in their last match who are doing well. 5 points off third.

The only sense would be that Petrov didn't pick Jardim and he decided to make his first major move. It's very risky since as you said Monaco have had good results since October and are realistically in the run for a CL qualification, they also played one less game than Lille who are just three points away at 4th.

The replacement a risk aswell. Roberto Moreno won some games with Spain and I have sympathy in him losing the job but he's been an assistant pretty much everywhere.

Would understand it more if say a Rudi Garcia or Deschamps was available.
