Just a dreadful Fifa XI. We all know that Ramos is nowhere near the team, but unfortunately you will get people in 30 years time who won't have watched this season and just look at all Ramos' teams of the year and decide he was as good as Baresi and Beckenbauer. Marcelo and Modric should be nowhere near too, pure laziness. Marcelo might be the worst pick I've ever seen, and there have been some truly awful ones over the years. Out of form, questions about his weight, struggled in a crisis season for Real Madrid, then didn't even play in the Copa America.

The player/manager/media voting is always interesting. Messi votes Ronaldo as number 2, doesn't seem to care about competition. Same with Van Dijk, who votes Messi number 1 despite being his biggest rival. Ronaldo votes De Ligt number one and doesn't vote for Messi or Van Dijk. Then Fernando Santos votes for Ronaldo...and De Ligt as well. Hmm wonder about that one.

De Gea, Marcelo, Busquets, and Kroos stick out to me as candidates as perhaps shouldn't be listed. All in good fun though, nothing to lose sleep over

I don’t mind Messi winning but with this, then surely Ronaldo should’ve won last year too?

Btw? Breakdown of votes for this strongly suggests VVD will win the BdO

How come Ronaldo wasn't in attendance? He turned up last year when he didn't win IIRC.

Yeah the team 11 was poor, would've had Mane ahead of Hazard aswell. I wonder if it's like premier league when they cast votes mid season so you get some dodgy selections.

That’s if the voters don’t change their mind come December. Messi winning at least elevates him more in terms of recognition for his efforts last season.

Voters are different. But they're still journalists, and VVD overwhelmingly won their vote in this one

Think he will win it, i would be shocked if he doesnt. It usually goes like that with journos. Liverpool winning the CL sealed it for him.

He didn’t show up last year either
Guess it was previous year then (I assume he won!)

Can remember it being in London and Idris Elba hosting and interviewing him and Messi.

Most of the years Messi hasn't voted for Ronaldo either. What exactly are people trying to prove here?

After criticizing Dani Alves' selection last year I got called out by some members that "it's ridiculous that people on the internet think they know better than players".
Maybe I'm missing something again - just being a regular fan and not an "expert" - but Marcelo making the first XI looks like an absolute joke to me.

Apologies to Ronaldo in the very unlikely event he'll be reading this later. Just seen Juve playing tonight so that was reason for his no show last night.

Wasn't called up for the game. Besides, the gala was in Milan and Juventus played in Brescia, which is less than an hour away by car.

When I posted that I didn't even realise Barca were playing tonight so was surprised Messi and Ter Stegen were at the event.

"The captain of the Nicaraguan national team says that this year he did not vote but appeared on the list of captains who voted for Messi and he can't explain how he appeared there"
