Absolute joke leauge/federation.

So the penalty for negotiating with a player without the contracted clubs permission costs the same amount as a Nintendo Switch?

Well, Griezmann did try to switch clubs.

Cant see Barca surviving such hefty fines. Might be joining Bury.

The penalty is that low because teams in the lower tiers can also be fined for this, and since there isn't a law that dictates the fine to be a % of the release clause, there's set amount so every team can afford it.

Is it right? no, but it's the law, maybe now they'll change it to make the fine relative to the transfer paid, they couldn't change that law to punish Barça with a higher fine, because the Spanish constitution bans retroactivity.

Then, this happens all the time, it's intrinsec to the concept of release clauses that you need to negotiate with the club who's going to pay it in order for them to take action and deposit the money, triggering the clause, no one had a problem so far in professional football here until Atletico decided to be childs about it.

This is exactly what we needed, a left winger that can go wide or inside, with good on the ball skills, capable of scoring, works a lot, knows how to press and can help the black hole Alba leaves behind him sometimes, plus, he can even play as a 9 instead of Suarez, leaving room for Dembele or whoever covers the LW spot instead of him.

Now, hoping Valverde doesn't try to reinvent the wheel, or tries to totally liberate him from defensive duties, Griezmann doesn't need to score 25 or 30 goals per season for us, just be one of the best system players of the world while having a top notch skillset and the capacity to score goals when it counts.
What's the verdict on him so far?

He's a good system player who helps them a lot out of possession, scores when it counts and has a top notch skillset

The problem is they didn't spend all that money for that. They spent all that money for a top 10 player in the world and as it stands he is...not. They just don't involve him enough

Glad we didn't waste money on him, would have stank the gaff out.
I think he would have been more valuable for us than he is for them. I think when offensive players get to Barcelona all they can I think of is “where is Messi?” For better but also for worse. It limits a players decision making.

They should have signed someone more 'electric'. That's what they needed to compliment Messi and Suarez' current skillsets.

Couldn't be more happy how this is turning out and somewhat expected it. The money Barcelona wasted the last couple of years is incredible.

Imagine buying Coutinho, Dembele and Griezmann and barely getting a return for it on the pitch.

His sudden drop in form this season is confusing. Barcelona does not play as organised as they used to do, that has to be a factor but any player that is playing with Messi should flourish. He is only 28 years old and top players generally do not start their decline at that age.

Can't be expecting a world beater when they brought him to the team to play as a foil like Giuly or Pedro.

Griezmann 120 mill + €404k/week
Dembele 125 mill + £250k/week
Coutinho 160 mill + £240k/week
De jong 85 mill + £350k/week

Close to half billion pounds in transfer fees + Wages (or 2 neymar). I guess you can say its some shocking recruitment right there. De jong and Dembele can still come Good though. Im not so sure about griezmann and coutinho is already a flop for Barca.

Their recruitment has probably been even worse than ours. The difference is that they've had Messi and a relatively stable core in Ter Stegen, Pique, Rakitic, Iniesta, Suarez, but they'll surely start to fall apart now, especially as Messi (eventually) declines.

That De Jong wage is insane and not believable.

Yeah that's the gist of it. Whenever he and Messi manage to combine good things tend to happen for them. Problem is those combinations are too few and far between

They turned him into a glorified Pedro. The guy has 14 goals this season including some big ones, most recently against Napoli. He really hasn't been bad. It's just that they spent all that money for a top 10 player in the world(which he is at his best), not a glorified Pedro

Griezmann is still an excellent player. However, his role has changed when he was at Atletico Madrid compared to Real Socieded. In Atletico (and France), he played on the right-hand side and dropped fairly deep to organize play and be a "playmaker" of sorts. At Barca, this is exactly what Messi does. So they are sticking Griezmann on the left-hand side, where he doesn't offer much. He's not a particularly great dribbler nor a winger that will burst past fullbacks. So basically, they have a player being played out of position not offering much along with rumours most players in Barca's locker room didn't want him due to the video he made the previous season. Keep in mind, Barca are also playing Vidal as a "false winger" - their team is so badly structured and I feel they are buying certain players just for the sake of it, not thinking how they fit into their team.

Bit like
Sanchez Di Maria Pogba
Not comparable. We will get our money back for Pogba and he was quite useful for a few years. Di Maria we almost got everything back as well. And Alexis we paid nothing, expensive in wages though.

Good luck to Barca selling a crocked Dembele, an old Griezmann and an unwanted Coutinho. They will lose half of what they paid on all of them if they sell, plus huge wages all these years.

Wasn't needed and, going by the early reports of him signing, wasn't exactly wanted in the Barca group either.

Brilliant player but a terrible signing given his qualities and how they use him.

Even at Atletico i never thought that Griezman was that amazing. Good player but worldclass? Is he really? Never really impressed me when he played for France either. Again, he wasnt bad and actually fairly good during the World Cup but i never got that 'wow amazing player' feeling. Could also be because i dont watch him play often so i might just have missed his world class performances...

He isnt very likeable either... maybe that works against him for me too?
