OK, so I've asked about this in the workrate thread and elsewhere. I know there are various platforms that aggregate stats, but membership based.

I don't understand why this is not easily attainable as it's quite a pivotal part of football, and for us United fans a highly relevant statistic since our manager kept making this point again and again at the end of last season, and that come pre-season this would change markedly.

Does anyone have access to stats that show distance covered in the Premier League so far this season and sprints per game?

Ideally, it would be great to see the difference on average between United's stats this season over all competitions, and last season.

Behind a paywall, right? If not, I couldn’t find it.

I think this should be as standard as number of fouls in a game or possession percentage. Why is this not freely available?

Because people have to compile the stats. Why would they give it away for free. Do you do your job for free?

The Premier League site has distance covered stats but they're not uploaded for this season yet I'm assuming that they wait until 10 games have passed or something.

Thanks! That's great.

I expected Sky or BT or the footie journalists or whoever to sprinkle those stats along all the other to present a more absorbing product/narrative to the fans, but I guess not.

I heard or read somewhere that we are one of the better sides in the top leagues in terms of pressing, a big improvement compared to last season, where we would only press in the first 10-15 minutes. We don't capitalise on that as we lack the edge, unfortunately.

UEFA used to publish the distance covered stat in their press packs for Champions League games - I'm not sure if they're still accessible.

Opta tend to guard them quite tightly so they rarely leak out in the media. That said, the distance covered stat isn't all that insightful, and it's probably the more detailed stats which clubs find juicier in managing workloads for players and assessing physical contributions during games.

We are probably really high for sprints but, as many posters have been pointing out recently, pressing isn't just having individuals chase the ball down aka Rashford's pointless sprint where he pulled his groin. I don't know how they could ever measure pressing as a tactic because it's usually at least three players trying to guide the ball to a particular player/point on the pitch before closing down.

We run a lot but it's without a lot of purpose at the moment.
