Rashford really shouldn't be taking free kicks for us ever. The manager should be taking them off him and failing that his teammates should be telling him to feck off. Just such a monumental waste

Or just speak to him for goodness sakes. There were men lined up in the box that last one. Highly improbable place to score from. And he does that?! That's just downright poor in both thought and execution.

Journo: It's a very long time since you scored on set pieces. Not many of them today (AZ) but generally what do you think is the reason behind that?

Ole: There's many reasons, we haven't been good enough. We haven't had the best execution, we haven't - of course Scotty could have should have could have scored against Arsenal with the header - but that's something we'll work on. We'll get there.

Watching the highlights from the Everton game, our set piece defending is just atrocious. We struggle with making anything out of our attacking set pieces and they've seem undeveloped for months but more alarmingly our defending corners is calamitous. How many players were at fault there when Everton scored, leaving aside that Calvert-Lewin fouled de Gea (who was indecisive in his attempt to punch the ball)?

Look at Shaw, Fred and Lindelof for example

I don't think our attacking set-pieces have ever been as bad as they are now. I literally never get excited for a corner as we're probably just as likely to concede from it then actually score from it.

The best bit is this concedes with us being utterly shite at defending them too... so thats nice.

Didn't know if anyone noticed but during our corner kicks yesterday, Bailly and Maguire was pairing up with each other essentially Bailly blocking off opposition from getting to Maguire. I have seen that kind of tactics used by Liverpool but probably the first time i'm seeing it from our side done effectively. Most of our set pieces were effective yesterday as Maguire scored one and almost headed one more to the far post for a simple tap in.

I really like Bailly - Magure combo rather than the other one.

Nice to see some quality delivery from Fernandes on the corners and free kicks. Best corner taker we've had since Phil Jones was hitting them

How many times in games do we want to miss free headers from corners. Im looking at you Maguirre ffs. Matic just missed a sitter in this game too. We truely are woeful at them.

Not only scoring from them. We are woeful defending them too.

Because Maguire thinks heading the ball consists of simply just making sure your head touches the ball.

Because as I have been saying all over that it takes practice to get anything right. If you don't practice over and over again this is going to be a mess as it's now.
There is a reason why top coaches like Rinus Michels, Arigo Sacchi Johan Cruijff all practiced near post flicks with their teams.
It's both for attacking and defending.

When Lindelof's getting his head on corners, you know you've got a problem.

I think we should play every corner and cornerlike free-kick short. It doesn't matter if we have prime Beckham putting balls into the box if they are met by Maguire, Lindelöf and McTominay. I guess we don't practice heading the ball too much in training as we really can't risk these players getting any knocks to their heads given that intelligence clearly never was something that they were blessed with in the first place.

So on his debut Telles takes some decent inswingers, so we take him off them to put Fernandes on them for some reason to then put Shaw on them when he comes back into the team?

Hopefully we can start trying more in swingers. Maguire gets on the end of about 2 great chances every game. I put him my Fantasy team thinking he’d get more this year but he’s been awful. He genuinely always skys free headers but has no problem getting onto the ball...

Bruno should be a threat from corners, so not bothered he’s taken off of them. And I don’t remember any goals from his corners? Shaw’s have been good so far.

With our attacking corners, they've definitely improved quite a bit and having Varane there for our corners is already proving to cause more havoc. While I recognise that Shaw's corners are pretty decent, I'm still not that comfortable with having a full back that far forward with only AWB in position to halt a counter attack. It's almost cost us today and it reminds me a bit of that Basaksehir match.

Is Fred there normally with AWB?

Mason is in good taking corners. I agree with you with AWB. He doesn't seem to have a good footballing brain.

Watching Chelsea scoring from corners easily while we can't even score one this season. Maguire, Varane, Ronaldo, McTominay, and sometime we have Pogba, Cavani and Matic on the pitch too. I miss those days when we used to score lot from corner. WTF happened?

Smalling was shipped out, last player I recall having much of a threat from corners (or maybe Ibra).

Rangnick said in and interview before he spends 1/3 of the time training in set pieces , so hopefully this improves. It is madness
It is madness. But, I think we look like we have slightly improved at defending them at least under Ralf (hope I don’t jinx it now).
Loads of teams look way more threatening at them even.

I would say that with regard to our corner record we need the following : 1 A player who can deliver a accurate ball into the penalty area consistantly and with the ability to vary the delivery. 2. Players with the ability to head a ball accurately.
At this point in time I see no player who can constantly vary and deliver a accurate ball into the penalty area and secondly only 2 players have really mastered the art of accurately heading a ball and they are Cavani and Ronaldo.
Too many times we appear to aim for Maguire whose heading ability is really questionable, he appears consitently to have no ability to put any direction on the ball other than a straight header either with a defensive or offensive headers.

The set piece takes have been awful. Put Bruno back on them when he's in the team, because he regularly was putting in dangerous balls. Telles, Greenwood and Shaw are terrible at them.
